Bumper Stickers and a #PowerDecal giveaway!

A couple of years ago, a Wall Street Journal columnist wrote an essay denigrating the many runners who put milage bumper stickers on their cars. You can read this gem here.  Here's a quote so you can get a feel for the article:
"There is only one reason running aficionados display the stickers. They want the rest of us to know about their long-distance feats. So let me be the first to offer my hearty congratulations. I'd even offer to give them a pat on the back—once they're done doing it themselves."--Chad Stafko, 2013
Clearly, he's not a runner. Most likely he has some issues. Maybe he should run. He says he has one of these bumper stickers on his car:

Which makes me think he also has a sense of humor.

Mark Remy, resident funny man at Runners World, wrote a rebuttal to the WSJ essay. Remy's translation of the above quote:
"TRANSLATION: People put stickers on their cars. Even runners! This angers me."-Mark Remy
And as Remy says,
"See? The author is not a bad man. Just an angry one. And you know what's good for that, don't you, Chad...? "
Yep. How do you feel about people putting distance stickers on their cars? Yay or nay?

My husband sported a 0.0 bumper sticker on his last car. No, he doesn't have issues with runners. Or me. It was a joke between us. People ask me all the time if he runs. "Not if he can help it," I tell them. He's had a love-hate relationship with my running, but more and more he displays a sense of pride when he talks my running to other people. We've accepted each other for who we are and that's that.

He also doesn't mind driving my car with its 26.2 bumper sticker. I put that sticker on after my first Chicago marathon. After almost 4 years, it's starting to fade. And you can't see it at night. But recently, I acquired something new:

This is a PowerDecal, an innovative LED backlit device that turns on when you're driving and turns off when you're stopped for more than a minute. My back windows are tinted, yet you can see the logo clearly at night! My nephew started PowerDecal, and their biggest sellers are sports logos. But they now have 26.2 and 13.1 for runners. You can also get custom logos. Personally, I think it looks pretty cool.

I have a PowerDecal 26.2 to give away! And remember, less than 1% of the population has completed a marathon. So be proud of what you've done!

Tell me you don't want one! You can enter below. Sorry to my overseas friends, but US entries only. Entries start after midnight 2/4/2015 and contest ends 2/11/2015 at midnight. Good luck!

  1. I don't mind race decals on cars, in fact I have a few. I can't wait to put my very first 26.2 on my car ( but I need to wash it first).

Was that company on Shark Tank? I remember seeing something like that a few years ago.

  2. Fun! We have some of those 0.0 stickers at the store I work at and they're always a conversation piece. People are often surprised that we even sell them!

  4. That car is ridiculous!!!!! I definitely believe in the 26.2, but I dont really think any of the ones under that should be stickers, but that is just my opinion, and I may be annoying some people by saying that. But on the other side, I love that there is now pride with being a runner, where as in the past it was kind of an embarrassing thing to say! oohhh I dunno, now I am changing my mind....okay, there should not be any 5k stickers. Thats my final answer :)

  6. I love the magnets/stickers! They are a great way to acknowledge something great and remind ourselves that we are capable of success! I love giving a sticker or magnet as a gift... even a 5k can be so special. Everyone travels a different journey and you never know what someone goes through to get there. We should celebrate each other more and you should be proud of your accomplishment!

  8. I have a few decals, but not a 26.2…and no real reason for that, just that I have never put one on! This sounds like a really cool version!

  9. My only sticker is the red runner girl I also use as my photo/icon. I could plaster my car with 13.1, but don't. HA HA. Maybe I'll put one on from a sub 2 or definitely for my first 26.2. I absolutely would want one that lights up! That is so cool!

  11. These look like fun! I have all kinds of stickers on my Jeep, running, wine, and Air Force related. It's MY Jeep, and I believe I should be able to express myself with it! <3

  12. I put a sticker on my car too after my first marathon. My oldest son saw a car with the 0.0 sticker the other day and said "look mom, that person is a runner too!". I busted out laughing and explained it to him but he totally didn't get it :)

  14. My guess is that the person that owns the car in the first picture is an avid runner. ;-) Good luck to your nephew and his company. Those are really cool decals.

  17. I have a 13.1 sticker that I wear with pride. Hope to earn the 26.2 in May!
Funny thing is, I live in Europe where we mesure in kilometers, so no one knows what the 13.1 refers to. I even had a friend asking me if it had to do with the cars capacity, ha! But I started running when we lived in US, so I still run in miles (which makes totally sense since 26.2 is shorter than 42.2, right?!!). The fact that no one knows the meaning of the sticker actually makes it even more special to me :-)
(BTW, I do have a US adress to ship to - should I be so lucky...)

    1. I hope you win so you can display it proudly! I wish we had a 42.2 km decal to give away! And just to make you feel better, I signed up to run 2015 in 2015--kilometers, not miles!
