I have learned to not get upset if I miss a run. I just started doing tempo runs, track workouts and fartleks!

Thanks for linking up with us for Throwback Thursday! :)Sarah, How My World Runshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12555393900155490631noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2647157930116406632.post-87288525197377442502014-06-13T06:35:24.710-05:002014-06-13T06:35:24.710-05:00Funny, because I am type A+ and just going out for...Funny, because I am type A+ and just going out for a run without a plan or a goal time relaxes me...but I do wear my Garmin...Wendy at Taking the Long Way Homehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09934786207724059919noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2647157930116406632.post-8644196479320962442014-06-13T05:42:17.483-05:002014-06-13T05:42:17.483-05:00Great post! It is a distinct goal to get faster and to do that you NEED to do speed and tempo runs. I NEED a plan, I can't not have a plan, but that's just me. I'm super Type A and have to have something written out in front of me. I wish I could be like you and just go out and run! I need to work on that :)Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17572556245744093363noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2647157930116406632.post-91212045290209637712014-04-27T07:24:17.761-05:002014-04-27T07:24:17.761-05:00Absolutely! This is how I've always run...and tho my strategy isn't conventional, I bet I get all the work done somehow! Previously I had been running 4 times a week, with 2 of the runs being speedwork, one a long run, and one a recovery run. Basically 3/4 of my runs were hard. Then I crashed and burned on my 1/2 marathon, so stressed out about keeping a certain pace and hitting a certain number. So I switched to running 6 days/week, about 5 miles every day except one long run of 10 miles. I go by feel and surprisingly, I've been running faster than before (at my previous "tempo" pace) and I feel so much stronger. I'm hoping it's not a fluke and I'll let you know if I still manage to crash and burn on my next race :) But I plan to run future races by feel as well, not obsessing about pace, and at the very least they should be more enjoyable! Maybe later I'll throw in speedwork, but for now I'm trying to enjoy each run and go with what my body wants to do. So basically I'm with you - even if it's not the best strategy (though maybe it is?), at least we are enjoying each run, and isn't that what life is all about?stephrunsnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2647157930116406632.post-8300592325308977502014-04-26T18:15:14.925-05:002014-04-26T18:15:14.925-05:00I like that! And it sounds enjoyable, which you are rightly insisting is the point for you. Really, if I do decide to do a marathon next year, I'm going to train with my crossfit coach...not kill myself with a ton of miles.
Wendy at Taking the Long Way Homehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09934786207724059919noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2647157930116406632.post-17833961549238970632014-04-26T16:45:06.980-05:002014-04-26T16:45:06.980-05:00I think there is value in time on your feet, perio...I think there is value in time on your feet, period. So no junk. Even walking makes one a better runner, IMO. I do believe one gets faster by running faster. Some like structure, some don't. I say whatever works, go with it. I'm usually pretty structured but I'll be the first one to juggle the plan or pull back if I'm not feeling it. Teamarciahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03843904545493985865noreply@blogger.com
