Every Day I'm Shuffling....

Shake that!

How was your week? For me, fitness-wise, there was running and yoga and CrossFit. But I also had oral surgery, which also sort of felt like a workout. During the procedure, there was sweating and my heart rate was elevated...aerobic, right?

Anyways, the procedure went well and I was very relieved when it was done. I spent the rest of the day on the couch with an ice pack on my face. Thankfully I felt well enough to return to work on Friday and I hit the road on Saturday with Steph for a long run.

But I'm getting ahead of myself...

Running:
Yes, there was an 8 mile run with Steph on Saturday morning. I'm so happy to be running with my friend again! When she responded to my question about how far we should go, Steph said 6-10 miles. Ok, then. It was a beautiful morning and for this run, I was happy to say goodbye to the run/walk intervals. Can you believe it? It was a little dicey at mile 3. Was it my surgery? The ibuprofen I've been taking? The wine I had the night before? Hooray for Tailwind--with that in my handheld, I recovered nicely. We finished 8 miles at a 9:07 m/m pace.

We look so short and stocky in this picture...
I had 2 other runs this week, on Tuesday and today. Today's run was a little more difficult--I only did 4 but determined to drop those run/walk intervals, it was a bit of a struggle with the humidity and my fatigue from the run the day before.

Yoga:
Monday I did yoga at home, outside on the deck. Cocoa was beside herself with excitement. She just loves when I get the yoga mat out. She grabbed a stick and positioned herself right in the middle of the mat and I couldn't bear to make her move. She happily chewed on that stick while I did vinyasas. Who needs goat yoga when you've got a dog? On Wednesday, I took a class at the studio. The class was smaller than usual. I wonder if people aren't coming because of the new studio? I hope not. But I won't lie...I don't mind having room to move!

This is downward dog. Literally and figuratively.

CrossFit:
Because of that oral surgery, I had to skip Thursday's strength session, which Steph assured me was tough! But Tuesday's intervals session with Coach Kate was plenty hard. She's throwing in some new moves for us, including these weighted squats that I've never done before! We alternated these with ring swings and then we did a circuit with 250m rowing alternating with burpees, step-up planks, flutter kicks, and KB deadlifts. I was sore the next day, which is always good, right?

The rest of my week was blissfully uneventful. After such a full summer, it felt good to have a little downtime, even if it meant recovering from oral surgery. The time on the couch was some much needed rest and now I'm ready to get shuffling again! Funny how that happens!

How was your week? What workout made you sore? Would you do goat yoga? Do you want to try Tailwind? PM me and I'll send you some!

I'm linking this post with Holly, Tricia, and guest host Madhuri for the Weekly Wrap!

  1. Paco will grab a Nylabone and lay right next to me whenever I'm on the ground doing stretches or planks - dogs are so funny! Glad you had a good week and some great runs!

    1. Ever since she got her haircut, Cocoa has been like her old self again. She's still cautious with jumping because of her back but she has been so playful lately!

  2. I couldn't help but notice that 9:07 m/m.

I was impressed with the photo of your weighted squats, but the video? My jaw dropped.

I walked 6.23 miles on Monday and that was it for the week. Between weather and making myself available for when our grandchild is born, staying at home was on my plate. Got four miles in this morning while my better half held the fort. Nothing yet.

    1. We noticed that time too! It's really great to have someone who pushes me--sometimes I push her!

Enjoy your walking. I cannot wait to hear about the grandchild!

  3. My week was good! I got in 5 workouts, 6 if you count the all-day pep rally at school (6 rounds of a 45 minute pep rally was definitely a workout)! I was sore after weights on Monday because I had been away from the free weights for a week or so. I do not see the appeal of goat yoga at all! I have enough trouble focusing on my practice with the 11-year-old screaming at the screen while playing video games upstairs while I do yoga. I can't imagine having a random animal next to me while practicing. As for Tailwind, I loved it! If anyone reading this is on the fence, send Wendy a PM and get yourself some!!!

    1. I don't get the whole goat yoga thing either, but of course, I don't get hot yoga...

I'm so glad you love the Tailwind!

  4. OUCH. Oral surgery? GAHHHHHH. That's my worst nightmare. I'm glad you had a quiet week! We all need those sometimes. Your dog is so cute. :)

  6. Looks like a strong week of workouts even though you had surgery! My glutes are sore today but Im not totally sure why- I think its from single leg deadlifts on Friday.

  7. I hate the dentist and you just reminded me I have a check in next week. So glad that you like your workouts with your new trainer. I tried tailwind a few years back and I thought it was really salty. Maybe I need to try a new flavor seems like lots of you enjoy it. What's your favorite flavor?

    1. Do you want me to send you some? I like all the flavors, so I'm the wrong person to ask. But say the word and it's on the way to you...

  8. I'm glad to hear that your surgery went well! I love it when you have a good workout and it leaves you sore the next day. Lately that's been happening for me with my track workouts. I'm working on changing form and this is the first training cycle that I've actually done track workouts so I'm still adapting!

    1. I want to get back to those track workouts! Now that I'm getting my endurance back, I feel like I can do it.

  10. Hah! Love that song. And Damn, girl! You rocked that run! I prefer my yoga without goats. All my workouts made me sore this week! It's time for a massage ....

  11. Thanks for the (virtual) kick in the booty to get my yoga back on. I have really been slacking (like, almost totally boycotting) and that's SO not good. I wonder if Max would "do a Cocoa" and plant himself in the middle?

  12. Glad the OS went well! I did max 30 today and thought I may die!! Lol

  14. 8 miles at 9:07??!!! Dang lady that is super speedy! I love that you and Cocoa do yoga together- super sweet!

  15. Ya know I've never tried tailwind. In fact i've never even seen it any any of our stored here.

I use to live by the run- walk intervals when I was injured and kind of got away from it but think I need to return to it before I injure myself by trying to do too much.

I hope your recovery goes well.

  16. I still have the Tailwind you gave me sitting here. I wanna use it in my hydration pack but there are no directions about how much water??

    ReplyDelete

    1. It's one stick pack per 20-24 ounces of water, sip over an hour.

  17. I'm so glad you did well after your surgery and it's now behind you! Nice 8 miler this week! I look forward to some cooler mornings runs, but the missing air needs to return first. Sore? Yes. Too much (wait wait -- I'm sorry -- is there such a thing?) water skiing this weekend.

    1. The air seems to have disappeared this morning here as well. Ugh. Glad it's a yoga day.

  18. I don't do yoga, but I have a nightly stretching routine. Since I've been cat sitting for my parents, their cats are making the stretching a participant sport. Allie just watches, or sleeps, but the boys want attention and make things interesting.

  19. Awesome job on your 8 mile run! Nice you dropped the walk intervals! Not sure about the goat yoga lol but the goats would make it interesting and fun.

  22. Oral surgery is the worst! I narrowly escaped a cleaning at the dentist this past week when I had to go pick up a sick kid at camp. I gladly made the call that I couldn't make it to the dentist!!...and my son was fine after a few hours.
Love that squat move - I'll have to try it! And yes, when I get my mat out, my dog goes nuts, gets a toy or stick and thinks it's the best game ever to crawl under, over and around me. #doglife

    1. I don't mind a dental cleaning, actually I asked if I could get my teeth cleaned more often! Weird, right? But anything that involves injections is a deal breaker for me. Of course, I do want to keep my teeth, so there's that. I run marathons! I can do this!

  24. No desire to approach goat yoga. I have a hard enough time concentrating as it is.
I had quite the wisdom teeth experience, so I'm not a fan of oral surgery. And anyone who tells you, "It just means you can have milkshakes" can go and stick their something in their something.

  27. I hate having to get stuff done at the dentist and I feel like everytime I go they find something new! I did a Barre workout yesterday that left me pretty sore. I also work up and went to the gym early so I know I'll be feeling it later. Looks like you had a great week, keep it up.

  28. I burst out laughing when I saw the picture of Cocoa! One of my dogs Coco (must be a name thing!) does exactly the same thing. As soon as I come in from my run, I pull out my mat for some stretches and Coco comes running. He's partly blind and deaf now, but he just knows when I pull that mat out. I don't have the heart to kick him off! Lol!

  29. Great job on your run! Oral surgery is the worst...I've had bone grafts, teeth pulled, and dental implants. No fun at all.
I laughed out loud at the pic of you and your dog! So cute!

    1. Your comment the last time I mentioned the bone graft gave me so much reassurance. You are right, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Although I'm still really sore and having to take occasional ibuprofen.

  32. Whenever I have oral surgery, or any other painful/uncomfortable medical procedure, I just remind myself of how mentally tough I am in races, and that this is the same thing. And then when I race, I tell myself that it's like a dental procedure. . . .

  34. Hey, I had oral surgery too! But, I had to wait 72 hours before I could workout again. UGH. That was the worst! I was so glad to get back out for a run on Saturday! Glad yours went well and you were able to get back to it so quickly!

  35. I hope you're recovering from your oral surgery well and back to feeling like yourself quickly! It's great to hear that you're able to move on from run/walk intervals, but please listen to your body and pick them up again whenever you fee the need. I find those kind of intervals to be lifesavers when my running isn't going as I want.
