I runfess that... this October felt like the longest month ever. You feel me? Between the second--or third wave of COVID, does it even matter?-- and the election, I am just drained. More than ever, I am so grateful for running. As per usual, the end of the month signals the opening of the runfessional, courtesy of Marcia's Healthy Slice. It seems like I always have things to runfess!
Let's get to it.
I runfess that while I signed up for a live 5k, slated for next Saturday, November 7, my participation is doubtful. While preparing this post, I received an email about packet pickup. There is no race day packet pickup and the closest pickup site is in the south loop in Chicago. On Sunday. My husband and I had a planned trip to the lake this weekend--do I give it up so I can go pick up a packet for a 5k? I've reached out to the race and am waiting to hear back from them to see if they will allow me to pick up my packet race day morning. Stay tuned.
As much as I love the thought of running another live race, I runfess that I didn't sign up for a local trail race because of the cost and the swag. For $50, runners got a backpack and a decal. I'd rather have a t-shirt. Plus, because of the pandemic, there's no after race chili and beer. Sigh.
After my 10 mile run last Saturday, I received an email from Strava that said I was the local legend! I runfess that I don't even know what that means and even worse, I don't even care! Is anyone going to try to beat me? You know that I'm competitive and all, but this is just silly! BUT WAIT!!! Just in time for a late breaking edit, as I was preparing to publish this post, I received notification that 'Spike McSweetness' stole my crown and is now the new local legend. Fame is indeed fleeting...
I don't care, do you? |
Didn't you get the memo? |
I runfess that I saw this sticker on a car in the Target parking lot and wondered what race was 45.2 miles. I'm pretty good at figuring out the oddball numbers: 39.3, 70.3, 140.6. Even 0.0. This one stumped me. Then I found out what it meant. Can you?
Looks like I need to get a 46.1 sticker. |
I'm linking up with Marcia for Runfessions and with Fridays with Fairytales and Fitness.
I will admit the after party goodies are usually what makes the price of the race worth it, or not! That stinks that the post race chili and beverage are cancelled...boo! I'm not holding out for any of our local races happening for the rest of the year, which is sad. Fingers crossed that you can pick up your packet on race day. -M
ReplyDeleteI found out that they will mail it to me, so problem averted!
DeleteHa ha fame sure is fleeting! I have seen those Strava badges before. I think mine lasted about 10 minutes before I was over taken. Not sure I would give up a weekend away for a 5k. It's been forever since I've been away but also forever since I've run a real race!! Tough choices!!! Hope you can work it out to do both!
ReplyDeleteI don't get those Strava badges, but hey, if some people find them incentivizing...
DeleteI will be close to 100 miles and pleased that I will donate it to the research foundation. No, I don't know the meaning of that sticker but I can google it. No race day pickup? I don't blame you for not wanting to come into the city to pick up your packet. I never understood that whole appeal with Strava anyway. I deleted my account months ago.
ReplyDeleteI do like the Strava challenges--some of them offer prizes! I loved getting those Smartwool socks. I've also gotten Honey Stinger products.
DeleteNo post race food. Forget that race. Lol.
ReplyDeleteLake or race? Tough call.
I hope that 45.2 isn’t political!! I’m voting for 46.1 then.
You know it was! LOL
DeleteHaha, that 45.2! So annoying not to know... I probably would have waited next to the car just to ask the guy what it meant. I thought it could be the running and swimming distance of an Ironman in kilometres, but it doesn't add up.
ReplyDeleteI would take a weekend at the lake over a race packet pick up.😊 I hope you can pick it up on another day!
After learning what it meant (it's for Trump), I'm glad I didn't hang around to find out!
DeleteI love to hate on Strava...I was given the local legend for a stretch of road that I've run twice... I think they're phishing me to switch to premium. I runfess that this summer when they were offering a 2 month trial that I took advantage and then cancelled it just before the 2 months were up. There just wasn't anything that they offered that was worth $60 a year.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right! Should I care?
DeleteUgh on that sticker. And the flag with a blue stripe — another false division he’s fomenting. I can support police reform and still support police. I wouldn’t not cancel my trip for the 5K, but I think 5Ks have too many logistics for the distance anyway. LOL on being sick of pink. The good news is that you can support breast cancer research no matter what color you wear. ;-)
ReplyDeleteFomenting is such a good word!
DeleteI don't really use Strava and agree with the local legend thing is silly, but I'd like to acknowledge that 'Spike McSweetness' might be the best name ever LOL. Hopefully the local 5K will let you pick up the packet on race day - I wouldn't cancel my trip for that. I'm just rolling my eyes at the sticker - once I saw the flag I knew it was associated with him. Tuesday can't come soon enough.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on all points. Spike McSweetness put a smile on my face!
DeleteOh so what once were running stickers have now gone political! Sigh. And ugh. I never use Strava because I'm apathetic like that. And I don't want people knowing where I run. I've most definitely blown off a race due to super inconvenient packet pickup.
ReplyDeleteI saw a guy today who found me on Strava. Sigh...
DeleteYeah I saw that 45 sticker on a car the other day...I'll refrain from posting here what I uttered out loud when I saw it.
ReplyDeleteI hope the 5K organizers let you pick up on race day - I wouldn't cancel time away for a 5K.
I honestly didn't know what it meant. I sent it to Holly and she googled it. Sigh.
DeleteThe local legend is Strava's way of humoring those of us who are consistent, but not necessarily speedy. It doesn't matter how fast you run/ride a segment, it's whoever does it the most times in 90 days. Since I don't pay to use Strava, a lot of the features they've rolled out are meaningless to me.
ReplyDeleteSo funny, because I got another Local Legend today. (eye roll)
Delete45.2. Gross.
ReplyDeleteI was also the local legend for a minute. Too much pressure. LOL
I agree!!!
DeleteThe local legend thing is ridiculous! I keep getting them too and I'm not even trying to do anything... it's like "everyone gets a medal" kind of thing. I wish it would stop because it just makes me sheepish!! :)
ReplyDeleteIt is just so dumb.
DeleteHa ha, and I just registered for a virtual Trot, just for the swag. I was thinking the same thing about all the pink...but I'm glad to wear it anyways.
ReplyDeleteA trip? WTF is that? Seriously, in Feb it'll be 2 years since I've been anywhere but a day trip or to my mom, definitely not out of state, and I just don't see that changing anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteI actually do love pink -- fuschia -- it's a really good color for me. But I don't have many running clothes in that color.
Seriously Judy? A WTF? Seems like you've been enjoying day trips to the preserves and stuff. Geez.
DeleteUgh, 45.2. No thank you.
ReplyDeleteI kinda like the local legend thing! It's not about speed, it's about the most frequent times running a segment. I never get any though as I run on pretty popular routes. My husband had one for awhile that was just the connector between two lakes near us. The idea is fun! Maybe I just need to make my own segments :)
It would be tough to want to skip a lake weekend for a 5k...
I like your perspective. I feel like the bike path is pretty popular, so i was surprised to get a local legend there.
DeleteI would probably be in for a backpack. That's something a little different.
ReplyDeleteI would not give up a trip for a rack packet pickup. I hope they will work with you.
They are mailing it to me. Hopefully it arrives in time.
DeleteI have 2 moods too. No, wait...I just have one. And it's the first one. Is 45.2 a second term for Trump? If so, I'm with you - hoping for a 46.1! :)
ReplyDeleteNailed it. Glad we are in this together.
