This week's word? Juxtaposition. Does anyone use this word in everyday conversation? And how do I tie it in with running? Well, never one to back away from a challenge, I wracked my brain to come up with a post for this one.
To get my mind in the right frame for this word, I thought of this:
This or That is an old school rap song from the 90s by Black Sheep. I couldn't find an original video. But this commercial does a pretty good job with juxtaposition. Feel free to sing along while I share some juxtaposition in my world of running.
This or that:
From a previously published Wednesday Word post on perspective. There's bound to be some overlap on occasion, right? This is a view from 180 degrees. Highway to the left, grassy meadow to the right. |
OMGOSH you definitely nailed it. And I am definitely your kindred spirit in old-school hip-hop and rap. I'm going to be singing that song and thinking of you all day long.
ReplyDeleteThat song was the first thing to pop into my head when I sat down to tackle this one! When I watched the video, I realized what a great job the producers did with juxtaposition. Who knew?
DeleteGreat choice for juxtaposition. It's definitely an SAT word I don't use very often!
ReplyDeleteSeriously! An SAT word. No wonder I had trouble with it, since I never took the SAT! LOL!
DeleteI love that word! Great job relating it to running, too! How about trails or pavement? 5k or 50k? Gels or food? :)
ReplyDeleteYep! All great ideas!
DeleteGirl, you totally nailed it! I like to say that I seek balance and juxtaposition. That is how I describe my personality!
ReplyDeleteHa! I don't use juxtaposition in everyday conversation! But yes, it is all about balance.
DeleteCreative Wendy! Great job!
ReplyDeleteMy brain was totally stretched out after this!
DeleteI love your compare & contrast approach! I thought my less-than-desirable monthly mileage was a good juxtaposition to the level of fitness I as able to maintain last month ;-) This word was a tough one.
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty good use of the word as well!
DeleteHmmmm I think my juxtaposition is that I'm a road runner who's in love with trails!
ReplyDeleteI could see myself falling in love with trails! If I had any to run on that is...
DeleteI don't think I've ever used that word in a conversation. :-)
ReplyDeleteNailed it! Love how running really gets you outside and makes you LIVE!
ReplyDeleteYes! No matter what the conditions, right?
DeleteI am not sure the last time I used that word in a sentence but you did an amazing job working it into this post! Love it! And now that song is stuck in my head :)
ReplyDeleteThat's what happened to me and how I came to write this post!
DeleteYea, I don't think i've ever used that word in a conversation. I love how you handles it and how fun to see your running paths at different time of the year. I see a blog post there. Can I take that idea?
ReplyDeleteYou sure can! I did one a few years ago and titled it The Four Seasons. It was fun to post pictures of the same spot at different times of the year.
DeleteLOL that is not a word that flies out of my mouth on the regular! ;)
ReplyDeleteNot at all!
DeleteI love it! Not only do I not use the word I couldn't even spell it without a few tries (and I'm a pretty good speller). You nailed it. And I love the Kia hamsters. I may not sing the lyrics out loud but they'll be running through my head for the rest of the day.
ReplyDeleteNext week is visceral. Ayyyy! My brain!
DeleteI think you DID nail it! Nope, rarely use it in conversations.
ReplyDeleteThat's where writing about my whole life, and not only running, though, makes it a little easier sometimes. I'm not saying this was an easy one, but it was a timely one for me.
I guess I could have done the juxtaposition of newbie runner to somewhat seasoned runner -- I'll have to write that down right now!
There you go!
DeleteThat picture next to the highway... do you run that close to the highway? is that a marked path? it looks a bit scary with the trucks.
ReplyDeleteYou absolutely nailed it!
There's a frontage road along the highway, with a sidewalk. I run on both.
DeleteLove this! Can't say I use the word juxtaposition at all!
ReplyDeleteSeriously! Me either!
DeleteHaha I love this and totally agree! My juxtaposition is that some days I love running and some days I hate it
ReplyDeleteThat whole love-hate thing! Perfect juxtaposition!
DeleteWell done, Wendy! You juxtapose very well! I love the winter vs. summer and the starting line vs. finishing line photos :)
ReplyDeleteHa! I guess makes me a professional juxtaposer!
DeleteI'm not sure I ever use this word, at least not commonly enough to recall. But I love your post! I love all your pictures and can see you enjoy running! I liked going through the this or that and saying to myself "oh that for sure".
ReplyDeleteI know I don't use it! This or that? Makes more sense to me.
DeleteDang you look no worse for wear in your start line/finish line pictures! Right now my juxtaposition is definitely good run/bad run... with most of them being BAD!!
ReplyDeleteWell, it was Big Sur!
DeleteTotally nailed it! I love the summer and winter runs from the same spot!
ReplyDeleteI liked those too!
DeleteI struggled too!
ReplyDeleteI actually love (and use!) juxtaposition, depending on the circumstance.
ReplyDeleteI think you definitely nailed this prompt!
I'm sure I'll be using this word in the future!
DeleteGreat post - you hit the nail on the head!
ReplyDeleteI think you nailed it too! I could not for the life of me figure out what to do with that word. Love all the photos
ReplyDeleteI just couldn't back down from the challenge!
DeleteYou definitely nailed it. And you're right - who uses this word in regular conversations?!?
ReplyDeleteNo one I know! Clearly I'm not hanging out with the right people!
DeleteI totally giggled out loud at the 'I'm almost going to barf' photo. Priceless!!
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty gross, isn't it? Speedwork in the summer.
DeleteYou did nail it! Great job! I'm not sure I have ever said this word out loud! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThat makes a lot of us!
DeleteSuper creative!!! Great job! Also, I'm going to have that song in my head the rest of the night...lol! :D
ReplyDeleteLike I did when I wrote the post! Kind of catchy, right?
DeleteYou nailed it, and I was less than pleased with what I came up with. Rodney Yee uses the word juxtaposition when talking about the internal and external rotation of the legs during one of his yoga videos. It's not a word I use or even hear very often, but I've heard it many times this week on the news during discussions of Hillary's breach of top secret information as compared to others before her. What interesting timing for our Wednesday Word juxtaposition!
ReplyDeleteThank you for stepping up to the challenge and linking up!
Rodney uses a lot of interesting expressions in his videos!
DeletePerfection.
ReplyDeleteCool post!! I love how you captured the true dichotomy that can occur in all things running. Part of what makes it enjoyable, I think. There's never a dull moment!!
ReplyDeleteOooh! Dichotomy! Now that's another million dollar word!
DeleteYou did nail it.... Your pictures are always so good.... but the puppy has been missing in your last few posts... let's see you combine the puppy with the squat challenge (although I did very much appreciate the wine)
ReplyDeleteShe's not enjoying the squat challenge as much. I think she likes planking with me on the ground!
DeleteYou did a Great job! I am not even going to pretend that I knew what that word meant before reading these posts today ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's been fun to see what everyone has come up with!
DeleteLove all the photos ! You did nail it. I find her words so challenging sometimes and as much as I would love to participate, sometimes I just don't have the time or energy to wrack my brain. But you did great !
ReplyDeleteThis was a tough one! But it's a good exercise for the brain for sure.
DeleteI can't think of a single time I used juxtapositions in a conversation. Surely I must have right? Now I'm going to find a way haha
ReplyDeleteYou just did! See what I did there...
DeleteNever heard of it!!! Lol...but it sounds like you did a great job! Even pictures!
ReplyDeleteThis is my reward for taking so many selfies, I guess!
DeleteTotally nailed it!! Love the "good run/bad run" pictures - LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteKind of dramatic, but I had to prove a point!
DeleteCan definitely relate to this or that with "good run or bad run." Some days I have such great runs and other days such awful runs. Guess that is the way it goes!
ReplyDeleteYes it is!
DeleteYou nailed it perfectly Wendy! I remember the pics in the green shirt - that was the very first time I read your blog and loved it!
ReplyDeleteAwww, thank you! :)
DeleteYou totally nailed it! Sometimes the This or That for winter vs summer running is a tough call!
ReplyDeleteHaha! That is the truth!
DeleteAhhh- you totally nailed it, Wendy! I loved this post. My favorite was the winter/summer followed by good run/bad run! You are really very creative. :-)
ReplyDeleteWell, thank you! This was certainly a tough word prompt for me! It was fun once I got an idea for it tho!
