As much as I look forward to summer, I can't help but be disappointed when we have a summer that brings us lots of rain and moisture. I summerfess that I have spent more time indoors than I would have liked this year. Don't get me wrong, I've gotten all my runs done outdoors, but the humidity has limited my distance and/or my enjoyment. I'm glad I'm not training for anything!
I'm looking forward to fall--it's my favorite season. I know what comes after that, so I plan to enjoy it as much as I can!
Weekly Rundown:
Sunday: trail run 4 miles
Monday: Yoga with Adriene, Strength Training
Tuesday: Fluid Running
Wednesday: Trail Run 6.5 miles
Thursday: Yoga with Adriene, Strength Training
Friday: run 4 miles
Saturday: Yoga with Adriene, work
On Sunday, I had my son's and DIL's baby shower on the calendar for noon, so a short run was in order. I ran the trail in the east preserve, a nice 4 mile loop. I was lucky to see a lot of deer, including this doe and fawn, and a pair of sandhill cranes right when I pulled into the parking lot! I also saw 3 bucks--the twins, and another lone buck, as well as another doe with her twins! It was quite a morning, and I felt very happy when I finished!
Monday's strength work was a repeat of last week, with increased weight and/or reps:
Drop sets of:
-dumbbell deadlifts: 55# x8, 50# x10, 45# x12
-dumbbell strict press: 20# x10, 15# x14, 12# x 16
-barbell reverse lunges (front rack position) 55# x 6/leg, 45# x8/leg, 35# x 10/leg
-bent over barbell rows: 75# x8, 65# x10, 55# x12
We finished with row sprints, 5 x:30/2:30 rest. I was consistent with a pace of 1:56-1:57 per set
Wednesday morning was MOIST. The air was so thick that it felt as if I were swimming instead of running. I took it slow and literally soaked in my surroundings. I caught a few deer munching on foliage. Saw some beautiful mushrooms and flowers. By the time I finished, I was covered with sweat and mud. I couldn't wait to get into the shower!
Thursday's strength training was a repeat of last week's. I did my best to increase my weights and reps:
-Bulgarian Split Squats: 25# x8, 20# x10, 15# x12
-Dumbbell Bench Press: 30# x8, 25# x10, 20# x10
-Hip Thrusts: 155# x8, 145# x8, 135# x 8
-Pull-ups: lower bar x4, banded x4, banded x4
Friday brought another steamy morning. It was pretty, but pretty, pretty moist. I struggled to even get 3 miles--it was hard to breathe, and my knees were hurting. I caught up to my neighbor, who was walking her dog, and we walked the last mile home. By the time I got to work, inside the AC, my knees were done talking to me. It's been a cruel summer.
Off the trail...
My son and DIL's baby shower took place on Sunday afternoon. As always with her family, it was a beautiful event at a local restaurant. My sister and my high school BFF came, which was great. The hubs stayed home. As far as baby showers go, this was a really fun time!
We're up at the lake! It's been a while, and I'm hoping to get out for a ski. We did get out in the boat yesterday afternoon, and while it was sunny, it was windy and wavy. Hoping for better conditions today.
How was your week? Have your outdoor workouts been restricted by the humidity? Any fun nature sightings? Who else is looking forward to fall?

Like you, this heat and humidity and daily storms have really been oppressive. I’m not a fan at all and it is so depressing. This girl is looking forward to fall. So exciting to have a grandbaby on the way! Hope you got your ski in today
ReplyDeleteI did not get to ski--but it wasn't for lack of trying! This morning we had storms; this afternoon we went out in the boat, but it was windy and rough. Sigh. This summer has been something else.
DeleteI always love seeing the sand cranes in your pictures. We don't have them near us and I normally only see them while in Florida.
ReplyDeleteHow fun that your son and daughter-in-law are getting so close to their due date! Exciting times! You will love having a little one to cuddle and spoil. :-)
I love seeing the sandhills too. This morning I heard one, calling loudly. He was alone. I wondered if something happened to his mate.
DeleteME! ME! I'm looking forward to fall. Except that it doesn't cool down here till November (if we're lucky) so I guess I'm really looking forward to winter. But fall is a step in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteOOH- when is the baby due? This is very exciting!!!
I love your trail photos, even with the heat. The only animals I see on my trail these days are rabbits.
I always have mixed feelings about the end of summer, but this summer has been rough. I haven't gotten to ski much at all. So yeah, bring on fall.
DeleteI do all my workouts at OTF so haven’t been impacted by the heat and humidity as it’s always in the low 60s in there which feels so good! But I would be sick of summer if I was running outdoors. My husband just asked me this am if I miss running outside, and I don’t really at this point. I do run outside when I am away from my gym, like up at my parents. I had some horribly humid runs up there so was glad to be done at 4 miles!!
ReplyDeleteThe baby shower looks great. What an exciting time for your family! New life is such a pick me up for all!
I love seeing newborns--I see at least one every day in my clinic. It never gets old!
DeleteOh I love a good baby shower! How fun and exciting! I have been still running outside even when it's hot, but I don't mind the heat. It's really not that hot when I run and the Sun is just coming up. I'm actually dreading fall and winter! At least now it is still light and there's no ice on the roads.
ReplyDeleteThere's always a bright side, isn't there? I had a nice cool run this morning and it felt so good!
DeleteWow, the photo of you running really makes me feel how humid it is! There is something about warm but cloudy weather, it can get SO humid! I don't mind it as long as it's warm but that's because I don't really suffer from that kind of weather like some do. I'm sorry you've had such a hard time with it. It IS possible though that the hotter than usual and muggy weather may have caused at least some of my sluggishness in the gym.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting with the baby on its way!! I don't remember, is this your first grandchild?
Yes! Excited to meet the little guy!
DeleteBaby shower - how exciting!! I am secretly looking forward to having grandchildren, but I'm sure it's a long way away. My son doesn't even want kids (waaa!). Hopefully he changes his mind.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture of you running in the morning sun! Hopefully you get a break from the humidity soon. I didn't see any deer this week, but on our bike ride we saw a large bird (maybe a hawk) carry off a big snake in it's beak. So cool!
My son didn't want kids and now he says he wants 6. His wife is not so sure about that. So don't give up hope!
DeleteWell, I’m stubbornly hanging on to summer, but this weekend was steamy! My tank and shorts, from my morning run, were STILL damp and icky when we went to dinner last night, a good 7+ hours later. Yuck. Great baby shower pics ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'm ready for fall, lol!
