Heading into Memorial Day weekend and it's cold, rainy, and windy. Sigh. It's also time to runfess. Do you runfess? On the last Friday of every month, Marcia opens the runfessional, and runners across the globe bare their soles and receive absolution. No sin is too big or small. Thank goodness. You know I always have something to runfess...
I runfess... that the last time we were at the lake, I had a 10k penciled in on my calendar but instead took my shoes to the trails. What the what? I don't even know who I am anymore, but I sure like where I'm at right now. In the wild away from the chaos, soaking up nature is a good place to be!
I runfess... that I was caught taking pictures for my post on fitness equipment. I took my equipment to the local park for my 'photo shoot'. A woman walking her dog kept walking back and forth, I guess to see what I was doing. So she's in quite a few of my photos. Fortunately, I was able to capture a screenshot without her for the post.
MYOB, lady... |
I runfess...that every time I run the trails, I see new weird structures people have made. This cairn is now enclosed in a structure created of tree limbs. Recent additions to the creation include an angel ornament hanging from one of the branches and gems placed at the base of the cairn. Can I just say that this cairn looks a little...phallic? Or is it just me? And who are these people and why are they building things like this and those weird structures out of tree limbs?
Are these gems a gift to the phallus, I mean cairn? |
Where will you be next time? |
I waterskifess... my souvenir from my recent trip to Alabama was...a waterski. A few years ago, Holly purchased a new waterski but just didn't like skiing on it. The last time I visited her, I skied on it and fell in love. She offered to sell it to me but the cost of shipping was ridiculous! This past weekend when I visited her, I skied on it all weekend and fell even more in love. We found out that I could check it as oversized baggage for $30 and packed it up for the flight home! How often do you get to test drive new equipment before you buy it? Thanks to Holly, there's a lot of good juju in this ski and I'm looking forward to riding the wake on Lake Wisconsin. Not this weekend though! The water temperature is 60 degrees, too cold for this die-hard, even in my wetsuit.
What do you have to runfess? Would you pass up a race for a trail run? Photobombed lately? Seen anything weird on your run? Would you move the flamingo? How cold is too cold for a swim?
I'm linking up with Marcia for Runfessions and with the ladies of Fit Five Friday: Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn, and Zenaida !
60 is waaaaaay too cold for a swim (I've never swum in a wetsuit, though). How kind of Holly & how awesome you could get the ski home so economically!
ReplyDeleteSo far I haven't seen anything quite so entertaining as your mini flamingo on the trails. I was just happy not to see a bear, LOL!
I knew I was going to buy that ski from her eventually! But the logistics of getting it here were cost prohibitive until this trip. Now if it would warm up so I can christen it in Lake Wisco.
DeleteWelcome to the dark (trail) side! I continue to have zero interest in road races. I love my trails and losing myself in nature. I'm kind of bummed our weekend weather is going to be nasty. Have fun with that ski! I know you will!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sad about our weather, but I will hit some trails when we are up at the lake. Of course!
DeleteSo glad you had a good visit with Holly! How fun on the flamingo. Does it have an Instagram page? LOL.
ReplyDeleteIt should, right?
DeleteSo glad you enjoyed your visit with Holly and that it was warm enough to ski. I know what you mean about the perfect ski. I broke my foot because I used my hubby's ski. Never again.
ReplyDeleteSo sad about this weekend. It's our best boating weekend and I have a 10 mile race. 40s and rain. UGH!!!!!!!!!
I see lots of cairns on my hike...so far no flamingos lol
I twisted my ankle when I fell in the new ski... I hope nothing worse happens!
DeleteI think you should move the flamingo.
ReplyDeleteI’m more of an on the water person rather than in the water so 60 degrees is definitely way too cold.
I have a wetsuit, but its only a half suit and yeah, 60 degrees is too cold!
DeleteSo don't you wonder who's hiding the flamingo? Is it the same person, or different people? Are you sure you don't want to join in the fun?
ReplyDeleteI've definitely been opting for the trail over races lately! I finally signed up for a July 4th 5k and then promptly hurt my hip. Maybe it was the Universe telling me to stick to the trails.
See, you have to listen to the messages! I hope your hip calms down. And I prefer looking for the flamingo, lol
DeleteIf I had those beautiful trails nearby that you have access to, I might love trail running too! Go for it! I get photobombed all the time.I really feel like an idiot out there sometimes but hey gotta do what you gotta do. Sorry to miss you this weekend let me know about any fun fall races I should come up for!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely! I have a fall trail half (besides IAT) on my calendar. There's no sign up yet, but i will let you know. It is flat and easy, so you don't have to do hills or anything!
DeleteHaha, that woman, Wendy! You should have asked her to take the photos, I'm sure she would have agreed!
ReplyDeleteI have a funny feeling that no matter how cold the lake is this weekend, you will be on your skis... :-)
Enjoy the trails and all the "forest bathing"!
Probably no skiing this weekend! It's really cold! I'm so bummed. We're going back next weekend, so hopefully then.
DeleteToo funny about the flamingo on the trails - it does make you wonder who's behind the game of hide and seek.
ReplyDeleteHow great that it worked out that you could bring the new waterski home on the plane! I know you'll enjoy a lot of great runs on it!
Now it only it would warm up!!!
DeleteI have loved following your trail adventures! I don't blame you one bit for skipping that race! See, that lady is the reason I am always too scared to try do any sort of posing or anything with my phone - I don't want the attention!
ReplyDeleteI was a little bummed out about that lady. I should have just taken my photos at home!
DeleteI would totally move the flamingo...if nothing else, to mess with the person's mind who last placed it. I take a lot of my pics on the college campus (and, recently, on the track), so I'm never alone LOL
ReplyDeleteReally? Messing with people is not my thing. I'm having fun chasing it around the woods.
DeleteI am loving trails more and more lately too. It just feels so GOOD to run trails - so low stress. Love the traveling flamingo. I never see cool things like that on a trail run. Just trees and bushes and deer and stuff! :)
ReplyDeleteI never have seen all this weird stuff before now! I'm not sure what is going on in the woods!
DeleteI think if I had a nice trail to run on I may choose to skip a race too! So glad you had fun with Holly and were able to get the ski home!
ReplyDeleteNow if it would only warm up so I can use it!!!!
DeleteThe hidden flamingo just made me LOL! That's kind of funny that someone, or more than one person, keeps moving the flamingo. It kind of makes it like a treasure hunt when you're out on the trails running!
ReplyDeleteExactly!! i wonder where it will be next week?
Deletethat phallus!! hahahaha! seriously funny!
ReplyDeleteI runfess that after I saw your flamingo photo I wanted to do my own hide 'n seek with something in the park. Maybe I still will. I'm just afraid that someone would just steal it.
Not seen on my runs but I keep seeing single shoes on my walk. Who are these one-foot people in town??
And what happened to the other shoe? lol
DeleteThat is so funny about the lady walking her dog. Before the pandemic I would see single shoes (woman) on my run. Umm, I would sometimes see ladies in nighttime gear. Some of these ladies would be in the local paper because they were arrested. Know where I am going with this?
ReplyDeleteIt's been a long time since I've run on a trail. I know I have time I just have to make time for it. To me going to the lakefront is closer.
Yeah, none of those ladies of the night by me, lol!
DeleteHa! The flamingo is such a strange thing. On my hikes I usually see painted rocks and miniature gnomes. I runfess that I am just very slowly getting back into jogging and running.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that!
DeleteOur natural springs are 72° so i will swim in that, but that’s only at the springs and only rarely. Brrrr.
ReplyDeleteI would totally move the flamingo! How cute!
Congrats on the new ski! That’s fantastic!
72 is pretty cold for swimming! At least with skiing, the amount of time immersed in the water is pretty minimal!
DeleteThis post is delightful. Despite the terrible and cold weather this weekend here in RI, too, which makes me ultra cranky, you made me smile.
ReplyDelete"...I sure like where I am right now." Joyful. Perfect.
That photobomber is, well, the bomb. I laughed my [insert chosen body part here] off.
I didn't see the cairn as phallic until someone (that would be you) pointed it out. Some things cannot be unseen.
I'm so glad you will not hide the flamingo. It's such whimsy, why spoil someone's fun? It would be mean. Keep us posted on future sightings?
I'm so glad you agree with me on the flamingo. It's so much more fun to play along, don't you think?
DeleteI showed the cairn to a few people at work and they all 'saw it'. Lol i guess we are all in the gutter!
