Non-Runfessions

Can I runfess if I'm not running? I mean, I was running for the first week of July...then I had to go and climb the damn rope at CrossFit. Damn. Rope. Anyhoo, I'm sidelined, but I have plenty of things to 'fess about. Probably more than usual. Thank goodness Marcia opens the runfessional the last Friday of every month. I hope she won't mind these non-runfessions. I hope you don't either.

I non-runfess... that I underestimated how many random strangers would comment about my injury and the boot. About a week after I broke my leg we were out to dinner to celebrate my father-in-law's 89th birthday. I had my foot up on a chair and yes, I was wearing a sundress because pants and the boot don't mix. A man at the table next to me smiled at me and said something crude about crawling around under my table. WHAT IS WRONG WITH MEN? I was speechless and didn't respond back. My hubs and father-in-law didn't hear his comment and not wanting to ruin the evening, I didn't mention it until later to my hubs when we got home. He was as stunned as me.

I non-runfess... that I felt a little less sad about having to DNS the Dances with Dirt trail race in Devil's Lake State Park when I read a posting from a participant who shared that he ran across a 4' rattler on the trail! EEEEEK!!! I didn't know there were rattlesnakes in Wisco. Apparently, there's at least one because several other participants verified his sighting.

I non-runfess... to being reluctant when I was approached to review the FunRunBox. Something felt off, so I ignored the first request. When the owner of the company sent me another email, he said if I did a mini-review in my I Tried It feature, he promised that he would share my post plus my blog and IG in his FB group of runners. Seemed legit. After I posted the review, I sent the link. Crickets. I reached out one more time and he told me he had been 'busy' but would share my post and links in this group. Nope. Nada. I don't even know if there's really a FB group. Since he didn't follow through on his promise, I removed the review. Too bad, so sad.

I non-runfess... that while I've been sidelined, I've been doing a lot of shopping. I was pretty bummed when I received notification that my Swiftwick trail socks were delivered to someone in another town nearby. And then my InknBurn shorts weren't delivered when they said they were. And forget trying to get a hold of anyone at the local post office. The phone just rang and rang...and when someone did pick it up, they hung up. I don't know what is going on with USPS. The items finally showed up several days later.

I non-runfess... that Amazon let me down. In preparation for our trip to Door County, my son picked up my SUP from the lake house and forgot to pack the paddle. I immediately ordered one from Amazon to be shipped overnight to Door County. When it didn't come, I checked and saw that it wasn't coming until Wednesday! I rented one from the local outdoors shop for a couple of days until my paddle arrived. Oh, and we also forgot to pack life jackets, so we had to borrow those from our old neighbors as well...

Happy to do my part...

What do you have to runfess? I did follow everyone's suggestion and removed the review from the blog post and my I Tried it Page. Have you ever been ghosted by a company? How do you respond to a creepy comment? Any snake encounters on the run? Have you had issues with the post office or Amazon?

I'm linking up with Marcia for Runfessions and with the ladies of Fit Five Friday:  DarleneMichelleReneeJenn, and Zenaida !

  1. Ugh. I probably would have ignored the creepy comment, but that’s because I’ve been conditioned “not to make a scene” when really it’s the asshole who started it. ~sigh!

On the review, since it fits your brand and readers might like to see what thought, I’d keep it up, but make sure you were VERY honest and maybe remove any links.

  2. I won't do any reviews without getting payment anymore. It is just not worth it to me bc it takes a lot of work. We should be compensated for that. Amazon usually comes through for me in a pinch. What did we do before we had it? Our local usps is a nightmare. We just don't get mail for a few days then my box is full. i often get my neighbor's mail too.

    1. I don't feel like I have enough views to command payment, although this experience may change that. But it begs the question: would he have paid me?

  3. I'm sorry to say that USPS is totally unreliable now. I had all sorts of issues this year- a package that took six weeks to get to my sister (in Chicago) and then the next one that I mailed two-day priority, which took two weeks, and on and on. Oh, and the Christmas card to PA which arrived in March... it's hopeless.
I like your non-runfessions! I almost joined in with some of my own. We injured runners need to vent as well.

    1. I've been here before--glad everyone is ok with the non-runfessions too!

  4. Uber creepy. I'd not have said anything, either, but man-o-man would I have liked to. Loud. And clear.
Personally, I'd take down the review. The guy lied.
What's wrong with USPS? Two words: Louis DeJoy. Why is that man still in charge?

Keep on keeping on and be well.

    1. The USPS was screwed up before DeJoy, but he has done nothing to make things better. He has to go!

  5. Thankfully, no, I haven't had that kind of comment. Ever, I think. Could also be now because I'm gray haired & obviously look the part of middle aged woman. Ewww!

Never, ever count on anything to be overnight anymore. Or even within a few days sometimes . . . sometimes they get stuck in some weird town -- it can be kind of entertaining sometimes, actually.

I definitely see snakes here -- not often, but occasionally. Usually garter snakes. Thankfully I've never seen a rattlesnake (anywhere) but they definitely have them here.

  6. I've ordered things from Amazon and then realized they were cheap and would be coming from China (months later).

I have seen a snake when we boat and anchor to an island. I screamed of course.

Eww on that comment. Not sure if I would have said anything but sure would have wanted to.

Happy that your SUP has a seated option.

    1. A SUP is just a board and you can sit, kneel, or stand on it. I like the versatility!

  7. That comment. How barfy. Some men are so gross and even more clueless. Wth?? We have designs on moving to a warmer climate when THing 2 graduates. The snakes give me pause though. But rattlers in WI?? Say it isn't so! I'd take down that review pronto. The fine folks at Equelle never paid me and you can bet that work came down. Shame on them.

  8. Yeah, I'd drop the FunRunBox info and any related links to the dude's site or page(s). His loss. Thankfully, I've only see a few dead snakes during races in or near a woodland setting. A friend almost ran over a snake, though, on one of our recent rides, but I wasn't with her at the time and found out when we'd stopped for lunch. Big ewwwww.

    1. Not a fan of snakes, but my son did save that little one in Wisconsin. I hate to see anything suffer, even snakes.

  9. That comment - WTH! It continues to amaze me how rude and clueless some men can be! I totally get not wanting to ruin the evening by drawing attention to the comment but I bet it was hard to hold your tongue.

I'm glad you removed the Fun Run Box review - I would have done the same. I've grown more and more leery of outreach for reviews. So tacky of the company to not come through!

Sorry about the Amazon delay - I usually have good luck with them. USPS on the other hand is a hot mess!

    1. When that man made the rude comment, I was so stunned--I'm not so quick with the reaction--i didn't say anything. I think that was the best course of action. What a pig.

  10. Oh man, when I started reading that people were making comments about your injury I thought it was going to be positive comments. Yikes! Some people are just so rude!! Someone once sent me two tops that I ordered from a Facebook Group and they arrived MONTHS LATER. I had given up hope of ever receiving them and the seller actually gave me a refund. Once the items arrived I did send the money again.

    1. I'm starting to think it would actually be worth paying the extra shipping cost for UPS or FedEx. The post office is so unreliable. Except for delivering junk mail. I seem to always get that!

  11. Oh, man, I would have gone off on the creep in the restaurant! My husband and I were in Vegas a few years ago, playing cards in the wee hours with only one other player at the table. At some point, the guy showed my husband a picture of his wife and said, "you should be so lucky". Um, excuse me? I went BALLISTIC with the F-word flying. The dealer just put his head down and didn't say a word. The a-hole slithered out and didn't say anything.

Few of my product reviews have included more than just product, but since I'm so small, that's no surprise. I've never been ghosted like that, but you're right to have removed the post.

Funny (not funny) how so many people have problems with their local post offices. Ours is excellent, great service, and I don't think I've ever had an issue with them. I ship with them for my business 2-3 times a week and have never had a problem.

Hope your foot and ankle are healing well. I'm glad to see you've found ways to stay active.

    1. That guy in LV was so rude! Who would do that? I don't think that fast on my feet. I'm always shocked at the things people say!
