Coffee Talk

What's new? Let's catch up over coffee! I'm drinking my usual--Folgers--with GLG Collagen and a splash of half and half. Don't judge. I'm heading up to Madison this weekend to watch my Badger play rugby and I hope to come home with some Colectivo.

If we were having coffee... I'd tell you that I have some sad news. I hate to start off our coffee date like this, but it's been weighing heavily on my mind. My parents have listed the Door County lake house for sale. While I understand and support this decision, it's still hard to believe it will be gone. I was 12 years old when they built this house and it holds so many happy memories for all us. While we will still be able to vacation in Door County, it will never be the same for me.

I will miss the sunsets...

If we were having coffee... on a much happier note, I'd tell you that I had lunch with my college roommate! We lived together during our sophomore and junior years at Marquette. She is a nurse practitioner in California. Carol is one of the nicest people I've ever met and I'm so grateful we've stayed in touch.

If we were having coffee... I'd tell you that my Fantasy Football team, Run Away, is doing great! In fact, this week, I'm in first place. I've only lost one game so far, although last week was a close one! Having a FF team has certainly made watching football a lot of fun this year. Even though I don't really have a clue about what I'm doing. But does it really matter?

If we were having coffee... I'd tell you that my theory that Google is listening to me played out in a strange way this past weekend. I received a strange text from a person I don't ever talk to and it was a garbled summary of a conversation I had at work. It didn't make sense but it contained elements of things that I said. I found it disturbing. Was it Google? Is my phone spying on me? Is my phone hacked? Nothing has happened since but I'm still a little unnerved by the whole incident.

If we were having coffee... I'd share with you the titles of the books I read this month! Topping that list is a book I won from Bookish: Wild Game by Adrienne Brodeur. Wild Game: My Mother, Her Lover, and Me is the memoir of growing up with a mother who confides her affair to her daughter. It was unputdownable, if that is a word. I also read The Secrets We Kept by Laura Prescott, which is the fictional backstory behind the release of Dr Zhivago. This was the era of the cold war and spying was rampant. Another good read was The Grammarians by Cathleen Schine, a fictional account of a set of twins who have their own language and a love of words. The book follows them through their lives.
