Let's catch up over coffee! What are you having? I'm finishing up a bag of Starbucks Thanksgiving roast, which is absolutely delicious. With a scoop of GLG collagen and a splash of half and half, it's just perfect for this time of year.
What would you tell me over coffee?
If we were having coffee... speaking of coffee, I'd share that the hubs gifted me with my Christmas present early! A few months ago, I spotted the Cuisinart Grind and Brew, which is like a Keurig that grinds your beans into a pod to brew your coffee. I love the convenience of a Keurig but have always had issues with the waste of the pods. This was perfect. The hubs, always looking for a bargain, found it on sale at Kohls for 60% off. But wait...there's more! He also had a 40% off coupon, bringing the price down to $57. It's hard to believe, but it's real and it's sitting on my kitchen counter. And it makes a delicious cup of coffee. We're getting one for my oldest for Christmas too!
If we were having coffee... I'd tell you that I unintentionally almost pulled a Chevy Chase involving Cocoa and a leash. If you're familiar with National Lampoon's Vacation, then you might recall a scene involving a dog being tied to the bumper of the car. I didn't do that, but few weeks ago, I was getting ready to load Cocoa into the car for a grooming appointment. At that very same time, my medical director called to discuss a patient, so I scooped Cocoa into my arms and put her in the car as I spoke on the phone. As we were driving down the road, I heard a loud snapping noise. About a minute later, Cocoa came into the front seat. I noticed that she wasn't wearing her harness and leash and figured she somehow wriggled out of them. When I parked the car at the groomer, I reached into the backseat to grab the harness but it was stuck. So I opened the back door and yep, the leash was caught in the door. At least what was left of it.
If we were having coffee... I'd add that when I needed to take Cocoa to doggie daycare the next day, she was shaking when I put her in the car. She usually loves to go for rides, so I think she may have been a little traumatized. Don't call PETA on me, please.
If we were having coffee... I'd share that November was my lowest running mileage month since I broke my leg last year. I blame it on an RA flare and that 5th Covid vaccine, both of which forced me to the couch instead of lacing up my shoes. I ask a lot of this old body and sometimes I have to do the right thing. Even when I don't want to!
If we were having coffee... I'd ask you if you had any fun plans for the holidays? Besides more family time, the hubs and I are joining my sister and her hubs for Lightscape at the Chicago Botanic Gardens. If you recall, the hubs and I went a few years ago, right at the start of the pandemic. I hear it's better than ever. I'm also hoping to do more fun things with my boys--after last weekend, I'm sure there will be some spontaneous fun on hand.
What would you tell me over coffee? Have you gotten any pre-Christmas bargains? Any dog mishaps to share? Do you listen to your body when it tells you to slow down? Do you have any fun plans for the holidays?
PS Coming up on Tuesday: my annual Holiday Gift Guide for Runners!
I'm linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date and with the ladies of Fit Five Friday: Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn, and Zenaida.
Sounds like your husband & mine are kindred souls. :)
ReplyDeletePoor Cocoa! Hey, things happen. Bandit has not been traumatized by a coat but he acts as if he has. It made for a few really frustrating days this week!
LOL at your meme. Just when I thought I found the right balance of activity last week, I felt kinda burnt out this week. Luckily I'd already planned it to be a cutback week -- which is kinda funny because the mileage is already low. I'm okay with it. For me now is a good time of year to relax more.
I'm pushing hard on strength this month, which is why the lower running mileage isn't bothering me.
DeleteI think men of a certain age are all the same...lol
My daughter went to the lightscape last year and loved it. LOL on the leash at least you brought Cocoa in!! Enjoy your new coffee maker it sounds fabulous! The issue I had w the Keurig was that the coffee was not so good. I have pods that I send back to Nespresso to recycle
ReplyDeleteI like that they let you recycle! Glad I got to try Nespresso in Park City
DeleteWe still haven't seen Lightscape. Jillian went last year with her friends and loved it. Hopefully this year although I know it sells out like crazy. Oh poor Cocoa! If only dogs could talk!
ReplyDeleteYes, we could only get 7:45 for our tickets. We'll go to dinner first and walk it off, lol
DeleteYou know, I would listen to my body more if it didn't tell me such ridiculous things (you're old, you need to slow down, maybe switch to water aerobics or chair yoga... shut up, body!)
ReplyDeletePoor Cocoa- hopefully she'll forget about that experience, and although I am a card-carrying member I won't report you to PETA, ha ha.
Yes, I'm looking forward to having my son home again! He's back at school now but will be back the 15th, yay. I do have a couple fun things planned, if I can get him out of bed early enough.
Yeah, my body tells me the same ridiculous things. Actually, so do all my friends and coworkers. Ayyyy
DeleteAww poor Cocoa - hopefully she has a short memory ;) Love that listen to your body meme!
ReplyDeleteShe had no issues getting in the car to go to the lake last weekend! So i think we fixed that.
DeleteOh no, poor Cocoa! I hope she gets over her fear of riding in the car and is back to loving it soon!
ReplyDeleteYour husband is quite the bargain hunter! That's a great deal on the coffee maker!
Yeah, I was so surprised by his shopping skills! lucky me!
DeleteI am in the process of trying to fill our month full of all sorts of holiday activities, while scheduling around my daughter's availability this year! I like that she has a job while going to college, but having a job in retail makes my job as a planner hard! Looking forward to our family time together. Wow, what a great deal on that coffee maker!
ReplyDeleteWe don't have plans with the boys for holiday activities. I want to go to Ice Castles in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin but the hubs says no. Sigh...
DeleteYay!! I'm not a coffee drinker either but I've always been super sad about how wasteful all the pods are. That's awesome that you got such a great alternative for such an awesome deal! :]
ReplyDeleteI need to go to the Chicago Botanic Gardens someday! I didn't get a chance to during my very-short visit there! :[
You definitely need to check them out!
DeleteNovember was definitely my lowest running month in a long time (that's not even including my sabbaticals for my knee surgery or stress fracture). It is what it is, and I'll gladly take a low mileage month than risk further injury ;-) I'm always grateful to have numerous other fitness options to keep me moving!
ReplyDeleteThat is definitely a win!
DeleteThat's a crazy bargain on that coffee maker! I used to have a grind and brew -- I really liked it!
ReplyDeleteLOL on Cocoa's leash!
You can't make this stuff up!
DeleteCOCOA!!!! OMG, tell her she can come here! Sweet girl!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for the holidays. So far we've done the Miracle Christmas pop up bar, went to tree lightings in two small mountain towns, seen our hometown Nights of Lights, watched so many movies, and we have so much more planned.
Your trip to Georgia looked so amazing and festive! You do know how to do Christmas.
DeleteThe event at the Chicago Botanic Gardens looks wonderful! I love my Keurig but also like to brew coffee. I am checking out the one you have and am asking myself if I need another coffee maker.
ReplyDeleteI just love my new coffee maker!!! There's nothing better than fresh ground.
