I can't quite get my head around that it is September! We're having a taste of fall this week, courtesy of Harvey. I'm not complaining--a little cool, windy weather is not a problem at all. It's hard to believe all the damage that this storm has brought to Texas. Let's talk about it over a cup of coffee, shall we? It's cool today, so let's enjoy a hot mug. I'm taking half and half in mine. How about you?
If we were having coffee, I'd talk some more about my trip to Alabama to visit Holly. Did I tell you she took me to breakfast at Waffle House after we went waterskiing? All that time on the water really makes a person hungry! Runger? We had skiger... 😛 Holly thought that this northerner should experience Waffle House. I went rogue and ordered an omelet, which was really tasty. But I did sample Holly's waffle, which was yummy. I hear that the Waffle House can be quite entertaining, but at 10:30 am, there wasn't much happening--I'd imagine that if you want to see anything good, the middle of the night would be the time to visit. By the way, did you know that FEMA uses the "
Waffle House index" to determine how bad a natural disaster really is? Seriously. It's no surprise that Waffle House closed 4 Texas locations this week. What surprised me is that it was only 4.
If we were having coffee, I'd tell you how happy I am to still be feeling well! I was off my RA meds for 3 weeks for that oral surgery procedure I had. My mouth is almost completely healed and my RA didn't give me much trouble at all! I've been a little stiff this week but other than that, I feel really good. Right now, I'm feeling extraordinarily grateful. I had my blood work done and am awaiting the results. I'm not expecting any surprises.
GOPO RoseHips for the win! It has to be. Nothing else has changed.
If we were having coffee, I'd vent about my family and my dog a bit. This past week we all went out to dinner with my sisters and their families, my parents, and my father-in-law. It was so much fun to get together. When we got home, my oldest son announced that Cocoa "crapped all over the house" then went in his room and shut the door. My youngest son went down to his cave to do homework. My husband laid down on the couch. Hello? We have carpet upstairs and no matter how hard I tried, that stain wasn't budging. This was probably related to another incident in the morning. My youngest son let Cocoa in from the backyard and something smelled horrible. I don't know what she perfumed herself with, but oh my, it was nasty. Meanwhile, my son told me he had to leave for school, leaving me alone to bathe my putrid pup. Never mind that I was all ready to leave for work. It took 2 scrubbings to get her fresh. So that night, after cleaning the carpet, I had had enough and I unloaded on my husband. His solution? He told me we should "get rid of the dog". No, how about we get rid of you?
I didn't say it. I just thought it. It's ok guys. I'm over it.

Am I right? Who would you pick? |
If we were having coffee, I'd tell you that my youngest son and I got new phones. That's not really exciting except for the fact that he's been using my Apple ID and when I logged into the cloud to download all my stuff from my old phone, I also got all his photos and contacts. I call this a mom win! The other day, I was calling my husband but instead of his name showing up, I got "Old Hickory Ham Mike". What the heck? Apparently, it is an internet thing...one of those wrong texts gone viral and my son decided to nickname my husband. Thankfully, I'm just "mom". Guess who decided he needed his own Apple account?

This was one of the gems I found. I'm not sure what's going on here. |
If we were having coffee, I'd share with you the story of my run on Thursday. After I finished my CrossFit workout, I drove to the retention pond to do my 5 miles. I looked in my rear view mirror and a police car was behind me, lights flashing. My heart started to pound. What did I do this time? I pulled over to the right and he passed me, turning into the park. When I parked my car, there were a few other police cars there, but the cops were just talking. I got ready to run when an ambulance and a fire truck pulled in. More and more rescue vehicles pulled in and boats were launched. Believe it or not, I was able to finish my run, but the park was closed after that. The story was that a woman took her dog for a walk but she never returned home. Her dog was found running on the beach and her shoes were on the pier. After a 2 hour search, with divers and all, she was found under the pier, completely conscious. I'm am glad she's ok, but I have SO MANY questions about this one.

I'm sorry I hogged the conversation! It's been a strange couple of weeks. Do you think the eclipse has affected things in your world? What would you tell me over coffee? Please. I'm all ears now. Should we break out the wine?
I'm linking up with the
Fairytales and Fitness and
Running on Happy for the Friday five and with
Deborah and
Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date!
OMG, SEE, you have an exciting story from a run! That could have been an entire post itself..haha. I'd be curious too to know what was going on. I hope you learn more of the story!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up!
All I've learned since is that the woman has mental illness. So I"m pretty sure that's all I'll learn.
DeleteA few years back my Icloud got mixed up w my hubs Icloud and I had all kinds of crazy texts and strange music coming through. We should all stay on our own clouds for sure! I had not heard of the Waffle index very interesting! I've only been to one WH not really my thing. Thanks for joining for coffee!
ReplyDeleteYep, my son and I both learned our lessons. Get off of my cloud!
DeleteI can't believe that your family left you to clean after Cocoa!! that is so rude ! and that answer from your husband, I would have said what you were thinking!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that woman was found safe, so scary to think of what could have happened to her.
I have weird nicknames for my family members on my phone too, one of my brothers is listed as Crispy Monkey.... long story!
I said enough to my husband and I knew that I had to hold back.
DeleteI literally laughed out loud at your Cocoa (and family) story. I can relate. I look at my sweet little Max, with his big pleading soulful eyes...and I momentarily forget the growing stain on my living room rug (that needs replaced, PRONTO). Glad the missing lady was found...but what was she doing under the pier, without shoes...staging a fake death? I'll be curious what you learn about this, too!
ReplyDeleteYou already saw my stained carpet...now it's really bad! That's what i had words about. Clean up would be so much easier with wood floors. That is all.
DeleteOh my goodness men can be so thoughtless sometimes! I would've had some choice words for my husband...
ReplyDeleteI actually love waffle house waffles - they used to be my go-to hangover food back in college!
Enjoy your weekend :)
I guess we all have our hangover meal places--at least I used to in my younger drinking days!
DeleteGlad to hear that your RA symptoms have calmed down.
ReplyDeleteWe have cats and they puke. My hubby never seems to notice and if you don't clean it right away, it stains the rugs. When I complain, he says to get rid of the cats. I may have said "no I'm gonna get rid of you...)
He never "seems to notice". Isn't that interesting? That's how it is at our house.
DeleteI feel ya... Mine just puked on my white rug. UGH!!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you hadn't been to waffle house! It really is an experience. :-)
Mike has been there with the boys--we drove through Montgomery on our way to Florida twice, but oddly, I skipped it... :p
DeleteI'm glad to hear that your RA has calmed down - that's great news! I won the Go giveaway hosted by FitFul Focus and I can't wait to try them.
ReplyDeleteWow that park story is crazy! It's great that the woman was okay but that's so odd!
I'm excited to hear how you like GOPO!
DeleteAlex knows that he gets to clean up after the cat. I usually clean up after the dog. We'll see how well that continues as Fellowship gets more busy...
ReplyDeleteI didn't think that cleaning up after Cocoa was my job. It shouldn't be a surprise though, since this is dog #4 for us and it's always been "my job" in the past. Sigh.
DeleteI can totally relate to your Cocoa story. This is my reality. It's as if the dogs are mine. We came back from hs curriculum night last night to find a dried "pile" on the kitchen floor because you know, the kids just can't pick it up. Wow so she's alive. That's crazy. Cool how the dog hung around.
ReplyDeleteDried pile would have been preferable to what I came home to. Not that they would pick up dry or wet...
DeleteLes spent this week in Chicago and I'm really kicking myself that I didn't tag along! It's been brutally hot here (88 at 5:30 AM yesterday and today) and I'm so jealous of the weather you've been having. Sigh. The price we pay to live without snow :)
ReplyDeleteFleet Feet Sports is collecting new and gently used shoes at any of their locations to send to Texas. I imagine most of us runners have a pair or two (dozen) that we no longer run in.
I wish you would have tagged along-- we could have met!
DeleteI have a lot of gently used shoes--I need to find Fleet Feet stat!
That's crazy about the woman. I wonder if she was trying to disappear or if she was totally embarrassed about the mishap.
ReplyDeletePretty funny about your son!
I think there's a lot more to the story. All I heard since was that there were some mental health issues.
DeleteOh yes we have a Waffle House close to home! All I wanted to eat this week was one of their waffles for breakfast! We ate there after the Journey concert in Orange Beach. Now that was interesting!
ReplyDeleteAny all night diner is always interesting! It's been a long time since I had a 2 am breakfast.
DeleteKeep Cocoa and get rid of the family ;-) When I was catsitting two weeks ago, all 3 cats puked on the same day, at different times.
ReplyDeleteRight? Men, who needs them?
DeleteI'm so happy to hear that despite having to take a brief break from your RA meds that you are still feeling pretty good. Do you think that means that you don't need to be on as high of a dose/taking your meds at the same frequency as you currently are prescribed for?
ReplyDeleteThat's a great question and one that I'm thinking about. We'll see what my doctor says. I go back in 2 weeks for a follow up.
DeleteYou may have written this over a cup of coffee but Im reading it over a glass of wine! Thats awesome that you have been feeling good even without the meds. And so strange about that woman? I would really want to know what happened!
ReplyDeleteI'm commenting over wine, so it's like we're clinking glasses together!
DeleteI'm saying the lady isn't okay if she was under the pier with people all around looking for hours. We put Mojo in a cage if we all leave the house just to keep our sanity. It's bad enough was he does while we are home! That iCloud experience is any teens nightmare. LOL
ReplyDeleteBingo to your conclusion about my story. Apparently there were some mental health issues. What an amazing waste of services. We need better mental health services in our country to prevent this sort of thing. And now I'm stepping off my soapbox.
DeleteOMG, that sounds like the same convo I'd have with my husband. Obviously I would pick the dog. So much cuter. Plus they snuggle and they don't mind if you put your cold hands on them. They actually really like it. Hahah.
ReplyDeleteCocoa's fur is so much softer than my husband's. But she's pretty demanding.
DeleteWell I have to leave it here instead any of the a$$h0le$ stumble on my site. What a fun and sometimes quirky month you've had! I saw your FB post the other day where you said 'there's nothing better than family!' Yeah...no. So a little Bailey's and a lot of Kahlua in my coffee today, please. As you know, my eldest son is getting married in 2 weeks. And 3 of my 4 siblings are not coming. Two did not even respond, even after multiple e-mails and texts. WTF with that??? There's nothing worse than my f'ing family. Seriously. Even my 88 year old mother (who has lived with me for 7 years and I have completely taken care of since my dad died in 1999) said 'Good. We don't want them there anyway'. DEAD. TO. ME. Maybe a shot of vodka in the coffee too. So current mood? I wouldn't be over my husband's comment about the dog...you're a better woman than me!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry you're having all these issues with your family. Trust me when I tell you I get it. What is it about weddings that bring out the worst in people? Celebrate your son and his wife--the people who aren't coming are the ones missing out.
DeleteLOL on the Apple accounts. We do have the family sharing and sometimes I grab the latest game apps my son is into, but otherwise our tastes are pretty ... different. Yikes on that woman. Was she playing hide + seek? :-0
ReplyDeleteApparently there were some mental health issues--kind of sad. All those people looking for her.
DeleteWow! that is a crazy running story! So good that she was found- I of course was thinking the worst and was amazed that you were running in case the woman was accosted somewhere along your route- such a worrier!
ReplyDeleteI wasn't running for that reason--not quite sure where you got that from. I figured she was in the water and that I could watch things unfold while getting my run in.
DeleteI can't believe it's September already! I love the GOPO supplements too :-) Such a sweet picture of pup here as well!!!
ReplyDeleteTime flies, doesn't it?
DeleteWow! I can't believe your husband would offer that as an option. :-( Your dog is such a cutie. What a crazy run you had on Thursday!
ReplyDeletePretty sure he didn't mean it. You know how things go in a marriage...he knows he's on thin ice when he makes those kind of suggestions.
DeleteCocoa ....that face! Yeah, I'd choose her in a heartbeat! Sometimes, I think Major Hubs is a tad bit jealous of my relationship with Chester!
ReplyDeleteI'm laughing out loud over your son's nickname for his dad and the pic you found. That's awesome! I was looking at one of my son's phone once, and noticed he had his dad listed in his contacts as T-odd because instead of referring to his Dad as Todd, he thinks it's cute to call him Tee-odd. I was listed in there as "Mothowery" ...don't ask because I don't know. Lol
Wow, such excitement at your running spot! Inquiring minds want to know more!!
And yes, you are correct.... all the exciting things happen at Waffle House after midnight! I've witnessed a few over the years :)
I think after seeing some of my son's pics that ignorance is truly bliss!
DeleteSo great that your RA has calmed down - those GOPO supplements sounds like something worth checking out! That park story is pretty bizarre - good thing she was okay.
ReplyDeleteIt was such a strange week!
DeleteOh Cocoa, it sounds like she had a whole lot to clean up! Your guys should have helped you out instead of leaving you with cleanup duty!
ReplyDeleteTrue that Waffle House can be pretty entertaining lol. I always seem to miss the fun times, lol!
I think I"m too old for those good times at Waffle House! I'm actually ok with that.
DeleteIf i was having coffee with you the dog conversation would strike me the most...no I am not getting rid of the dog. I can say much more harsh words for that but I wont. I have heard the same thing and the answer is the same, no.
ReplyDeleteOh trust me, I sanitized my conversation for the blog. But I did hold back. She's not going anywhere.
Delete(take two)
ReplyDeleteIf we were having coffee and talking about your doggy, I'd want to punch your hubs. Like, repeatedly. WHO SAYS THAT?! You don't just get rid of your fur child because of something that could very easily be fix if you just do a little investigating. Jerk face McJerkFace. UGH.
Keep the dog, ditch the hubby. :) I'm totally kidding but you get the idea.
Oh trust me. I get you. He knows he's on thin ice when he messes with my dog.
DeleteMy husband sounds like your family! Our pup decided to play in the mud hole behind the house and he suddenly had several errands to run.
ReplyDeleteI love Waffle House but never get there when we are traveling!
Why? Why are they like that?
Deletei had a similar incident with my dog...sooooo upset :(
ReplyDeleteABout the mess? Or the suggestion that you get rid of her?
Delete
