The real me

Darlene at My first 5k, one of my favorite bloggers and fellow masters runner, recently tagged me to answer some questions. Never being one to shy away from talking about myself, I share some of the 411 below...

What is something people might be surprised to learn about you?
-I can talk like a frog. Yep, it's one of my special gifts. Did you ever see the original Little Rascals TV show? Not the remake from a few years back. Pale imitation IMHO. There's a character named Froggy, and when I was a kid, I discovered that I could talk just like him. Still can. And I'm fluent in pig latin too. I grew up in a bilingual household. Ooday ouyay eakspay iglatinay?

Have you ever met someone famous?
-Back in my days as a coed at Marquette University, there was a fellow student who liked to drink a lot and get obnoxious. Actually, there were a lot of of them, but only one became famous. Chris Farley. One night at a bar, he and his friends were doing something called "muff diving" (don't ask) and he bit me right on the butt. Hard! I was not happy, and also being one to enjoy a few beers, I'm sure we had words about that. I had quite a bruise. Who knew that he would become famous? I always figured he'd end up in "a van down by the river".

What is something you hope will never come back in style?
-A few years ago, I heard a rumor that high waisted pants were coming back in style. Say it isn't so! I've become a huge fan of low waisted pants because I don't have a waist and high waisted pants are always too tight. I hate stuff around my waist.

What is one thing on your travel/must see/bucket list?
-There are so many places I want to go. The one place I've never been but I'd like to is Hawaii. And running-wise, I'd love to run Big Sur. I put my name in the lottery for next year's race. We'll see...

Who would you want to play in you in a movie of your life?
-I'm kind of a cynical person, and in the past, I always thought Janeane Garofalo would make a great me.

Who is your favorite Disney Princess?
-I have no idea. I'm the mom of boys! I'm not much of a princess anyways...

What would you sing at karaoke at night?
-Pretty much anything. I love to sing. My voice isn't pretty, tho...
#truestory
Who would you want to be stranded on a desert island with?
-Probably my husband. I'd probably go a little nuts being stranded and he's pretty good at keeping me calm. I call him my rock. Plus he's handy and a really good cook. He could have patched up the SS Minnow.

What clothing item/accessory/shoes do you have too much of in your closet?
-I'm a runner. Next question.

What is your biggest pet peeve?
-The misplaced apostrophe. Remember: if it's plural, it doesn't get an apostrophe.

Got any answers to share?

I'm tagging Marcia's Healthy Slice, Lara from Uptite Mamas, MaryBeth at Tutus and Tennies, Melanie at Runner Girl in a Rocking World, and Kim from Running on the Fly. Anyone else want to answer? Feel free! I love this stuff...

  1. Oh this is such a fun post. Wow about Chris Farely! He was my sister's favorite actor. O can't wait to tell her your story.

I hope you get to run Big Sur. Lacey has done it two years in a row and says it is gorgeous. I wouldn't know about that since that was the marathon I DNS. O well!

  3. One of my teen patients came in wearing high waisted shorts...reminded me of a young me in the 70s...yikes!

  4. ha ha ha......I'll respond to the tag,but it'll have to wait until I'm home from work this afternoon :-) (And I'm in total agreement on the misplaced apostrophe) (#grammarsnob) :-)

  5. I hate to break it to you, but, yes, high-waisted pants are back. :( My 15-year-old niece, the fashionista, wears them. I will LIVE in yoga pants before I don the first pair of high-wasters. They're hideous.

    1. I just remember that uncomfortable feeling of trying to button the pants. I'm old, so I think I can bypass this trend!

  6. Misplaced apostrophes drive me crazy also. I used to work as a writing consultant and the grammar mistakes people thought were correct never ceased to amaze me (and not in a good way).

    1. I could have elaborated on this part, but I held back. I have issues with poor spelling too. People just don't care! I've seen misspelled words on a resume. Seriously.

  7. Isay opesay ouyay etgay intosay igbay ursay (much harder to type than say!). That would be awesome an awesome race. So many other people said they would never sing karaoke! Great to know you will. Hey, we can divide the parts for Bohemian Rhapsody and sing a duet (after a couple of drinks of course).

    1. Maybe we can sing it at the marathon finish line? Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? LOL

  9. Great answers!! I went to Hawaii for our honeymoon 2 years ago and it was amazing! I would love to go back, but there are also a lot of other places I want to see!

  10. Ooh, I love this stuff too! In fact, based on most of your answers you might just be my little sister we have so many of the same likes and dislikes. Plus no waistline.

  11. Fun to read! I second Hawaii it was a gorgeous place to visit and run. Hope you make it there next year.

  13. I am very lucky: I have been to HI 3 times & to all of the 4 largest islands! And since obviously I need to run a half there . . . seriously, it's just heaven. You should go. Maybe when both boys are out of the house.

If Big Sur had a half, I'd love to do it. Also a beautiful place (I have a lot of family in CA).

Yes, high waisted pants ARE back in, but not mom jeans. I do like something at my waist, but it's hard to find something other than low rise. But I have a waist. And hips, and a butt . . . my problem is if it fits the thighs it's too big at the waist because I'm a curvy girl.

    1. Big Sur does have a half, but it's in November. Very cool medals; they're handmade ceramic by local artists. I'd love to do that one too.

Chris Farley!!!! That's so awesome. ... I want to see that documentary about him.
Cinderella meme... haha... made my day!

  16. hahaha, I can't believe you went to school with Chris Farley and that he bit your butt!?!? I was a fan of Beverly Hills Ninja when I was little, hehehe.

I'm with you on the high-waisted pants. Do not want. :x + I hope you get to go to Hawai'i at some point + run Big Sur!

  17. Oh my word Chris Farley bit you right on the bum? If a guy did that to me I'd either punch him right in the face or call the police! It depends how nice I was feeling.

I do not like things around my waist either!

    ReplyDelete
  18. This is a fun one! You videos and pictures are great. Chris Farley that is pretty cool. He was one of my faves as I am a huge lover of SNL! I am right there with you in loving the low waisted pants! YES, the high waists are back! I see the kids wearing them at the beach (where I run) everyday! High wasted shorts! They're not even cute and they make me think of MY high school days!

    1. Funny, at college we didn't think he was funny. My husband and I went to Second City one night, long after that, and he was there, and we were like, "he's funny?" Who knew what being obnoxious and a partier could do for a guy?

  19. This was so fun to read! I think it's awesome that you knew Chris Farley. I always wonder if his career would have went further than it did. And I feel the EXACT same about high waisted pants. Why is this happening? There can't just be a happy medium: medium rise only, where there are no butt cracks hanging out but there are also not things around my waist?

  20. This is such a fun post. I love this kind of prompt. Hawaii should totally be on the bucket list, I grew up there =) Love all the memes especially the Cinderella one!

  21. Hilarious and such a great look at your personality! And with Chris Farley... I guess it just shows that you never know. But that also slow and steady can win the race in the long run?
Remember when Jessica Simpson tried to make mom jeans work? Yeah..... nuff said

  26. Oh I hope high waisted pants never come back into style. They're so uncomfortable to wear!

    ReplyDelete
  27. So funny!! High-waisted pants have been back and I do hate them.....you have to be 6 feet tall for them.... I now have more sports bras than running bras....I'm a shoe gal...once I have more running shoes than heels, you'll know I've completely transformed:)

    ReplyDelete

    1. Heels are a thing of the past for me--between my job and running, wearing them takes too much out of my feet!

  28. Ha! Chris Farley, so awesome. He was hilarious.

And seriously. High waisted pants can go away. Again. There was a reason they faded away!

  29. OMG, I'm rolling over here. That was hilarious! Love that you met Chris Farley, I loved that guy on SNL! I met James Earl Jones when I was a kid. We were on a cruise and in St Thomas I met him. I'll never forget that! I almost threw my name in the hat for Big Sur too but I promised I was not going to do a spring marathon again, at least for a year! Agree on the high waisted pants, but the new thing that's making a come back that I could really do without is overalls!!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oooh, wouldn't it be fun if we both got into Big Sur? That one would be for fun--not for time! We could talk and run leisurely the whole time. Overalls? Say it aint so!

  34. Lol I am a runner. Pretty much I feel like I can never have enough running clothes or shoes. Much to my husband's dismay I might add!

I would want my husband with me on an island too if I were ever stranded. He likes the toughing it out thing.
