Coffee Talk

Let's catch up over coffee! What are you having? I'm having some Colectivo Bucky Badger blend that we picked up in Madison last week. Since it's Colectivo, it's as good as you'd expect it to be. Add a scoop of GLG collagen and a splash of half and half and it's heaven in a coffee mug.

What would you tell me over coffee?

If we were having coffee... speaking of Bucky, I'd tell you that I made my final tuition payment to the University of Wisconsin! My youngest son is set to graduate in May. While he isn't sure what comes next for him, he does plan to move to Chicago to live with his brother. What mom wouldn't be happy about that?

If we were having coffee... I'd tell you that today I am working from home. We've had a little break in the overwhelming onslaught of illness-related visits from the past year and I'm taking advantage of it to complete some modules to help me be more efficient with our electronic medical record. It may be hard to believe, but I'm actually looking forward to it!

If we were having coffee... I'd mention the recent onslaught of emails declaring me a winner of all kinds of prizes--Costco memberships, LeCreuset cookware, a Yeti cooler...the list goes on. It's so hard to pass up all these prizes! But seriously, most of the messages look sketchy. If you're going to try to scam me, at least put some effort into it! FYI, spellcheck is a really helpful tool. From what I've learned, there are new AI bots that can get past spam filters. I just send them all to my spam folder and hope that eventually Gmail will catch up.

If we were having coffee... I'd ask you if you've streamed any good movies or shows lately? We just finished Wednesday the series on Netflix, which was great, 1923 (the first part) on Paramount+, and we loved The White Lotus part 2 on HBO max. Movie-wise, we haven't been so lucky-- almost everything we've wanted to watch requires an additional fee! The Menu, which is on HBO max, is really good, but I don't think everyone will get it. Emily the Criminal, which is on Netflix was also really good. We also watched You People on Netflix, which we didn't like at all.

If we were having coffee... I'd ask if you are still playing Wordle? Because I am! But I am obsessed with the Spelling Bee game on the NYTimes game page. You get a set of letters and form words, using the center letter in every word. It's not as easy as it sounds, but it's addicting! You can reach certain levels and when I reach the Genius level, I announce it to my hubs and he promptly rolls his eyes, lol. Maybe he should try it, just saying...

What would you tell me over coffee? Are you still playing Wordle? Do you have any other games you play daily? Have you streamed any good movies or shows lately? Are you getting a ton of spam email telling you that you're a winner?

I'm linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date and with the ladies of Fit Five Friday:  DarleneMichelleReneeJenn, and Zenaida.

  1. I find those sketchy "prize" emails in my spam, where they belong. I was recently contacted on Insta for the "official blue check mark". Upon further investigation that was total sketch as well. Will it ever end? I think not. We just finished Pressure Cooker. It was ok.

  2. I had to look up Colectivo coffee. I see we're practically neighbors 🤣. I live in Michigan. I've been to Wisconsin for the um, Icebreaker Indoor Marathon. That was a lot of fun! I haven't watched the whole series of Wednesday, but this is one my daughter and I like to watch together. I don't watch TV often enough to be any good at suggestions. I did watch most of Manefesto on Netflix and Three Pines on Amazon during the first week after surgery when I was forced to sit still.

  3. Yeah, I've been "winning" lots of stuff lately as well, and have ignored all of them. I have fallen off the Wordle radar (and Word Hurdle as well), though I'm not sure how I let that happen. I played Wordle one day last week, and the word was so obscure, there was no way I would have ever used in my day-to-day conversation. I haven't been back, LOL

    1. I don't recall any obscure words, lol, but I do get frustrated when they use a word that has many different possibilities!

  4. Congrats on making that last tuition payment ;) I love that your sons are planning to live together!

We're in the middle of watching Wednesday now and enjoying it. I want to see Glass Onion and The Menu, but there isn't much else that's caught my eye.

    Enjoy working from home today!

  5. It must have felt good to make that last tuition payment! But, I do have to say that when I took my daughter to the orthodontist last month (she gets her braces off soon) they told me I was making my last payment. Hooray! Except it also made me a little sad. My son had braces for a LONG time, and then my daughter, and it seems like making my last orthodontist payment, forever, was a reminder of time passing and the kids moving on. College is quite a bit more expensive than braces, so it was probably all joy making that last payment.
I get those emails too, full of misprints and bad punctuation. I mean, how stupid do they think I am??? At least TRY to make it look official!

    1. I completely understand what you mean about the sad feeling, even when it involves making a payment. Yes, it's hard to see time fly by when it comes to the kids.

  6. My husband plays a bunch of games (and it keeps him on the couch for hours, so not so sure I really love that. I play just one, tried Wordle once, didn't particularly like it.

Considering how difficult it is to be working in healthcare these days, I'm not surprised you're actually looking forward to learning from home for a few days. Today's a great day for that here -- it's one of the few days I don't even plan to step outdoors. Super cold & the wind is really howling.

    1. It's super cold here too but the sun is shining, so I bundled up and went for a run. My office has no windows, so even though I'll be inside the rest of the day, it will be nice to have the sun streaming in through the windows in my house.

  7. Oh what a relief it must be for you to know the last tuition payment will be made! Yay for being able to work from home for a bit. I think I could get behind Wordle. I like those word games! Have a great weekend!

  10. I have a Wordle battle every day with my sister and my dad. Usually my dad does it first thing in the morning and then sends his result with a "hint". Then my sister and I try to get it in fewer tries than my dad... which is quite tricky, because he's really good at it.
I saw that other game but never tried it. I'll do that right now!

  11. ah I am so glad your son will be coming home to live with his brother after school's done! that's great news!! I am not playing wordle anymore though I think about picking it up again occasionally! We've watched a few movies and series on Netflix but nothing really that I'd write home about. Well. I guess on Apple TV is the Mosquito Coast - I really liked that series. And I kind of fell into The Morning Show. I would love to see the Fabelmans; hopefully I can talk Ron into going to the actual cinema with me!

  12. Congrats on your raise (as in your last tuition payment)!

I don't do Wordle or any similar games, but I do spend about 30 minutes a day working on my Spanish.

  13. Congrats on making your last college tuition payment. That's exciting. How nice the brothers will be together, gives you only one place to visit and perhaps since of relief that they will look out for each other being away from home. The only thing hubby and I have been watching is West Wing, for the 3rd time. We love it, it's still entertaining and we think the best show that's ever been on tv. No, I stopped playing Wordle. Didn't like that the guy that invented it got bought out by Corp $$. For awhile you could still do the archives then they made him take that down, so I stopped supporting "them" by playing their game. Stay warm, stay healthy and the days are getting longer...come on spring.

  14. Aww, congrats!!! :] That's awesome!

I always look forward to being able to work from home! :P They took away my full day sometime last year and I was super sad, so I asked them to give me a full virtual day every 2 weeks so I could at least save on driving 2x/month (I'll take anything at this point, haha).

I've heard great things about Wednesday but haven't seen it yet! It's on my to-watch list for sure.

  15. That is exciting about your son! Graduation, already? Wow! I also loved Wednesday and cannot wait for season 2.

  16. yay for final tuition payments! Those always feel good. I did not like "you people" either I watched it on the plane. I thought it only reinforced not so accurate stereotypes. Menu was good but creepy. Have you watched Truth be told on Apple? the second season is out now but I really liked the first.

    1. I quit Wordle a while ago because I found it too stressful -- I know, I'm a mess! I think I'd like that bee game though. One of my favorite pass-the-time-in-meetings game is to pick a long word and then see how many words I can make from the letters.

How great your boys will be living together!

    2. @Deborah I have not seen Truth be Told but will definitely check it out.

    3. @Courtney I find the spelling bee game stressful when I can't make enough words to hit the Genius level, lol
