I Wouldn't Make a Very Good Soldier and other Runfessions

It has been A MONTH. I've been feeling high and happy that summer is here and that restrictions are lifting. And then...well, that's what we have the runfessional for. I'm cleansing my soul and soles here today. Thank goodness Marcia opens up the runfessional on the last Friday of every month. It seems that I never have a shortage of things to share.

What do you have to runfess?

This is not Murph, but it may have been the WOD that pushed my tendon to the breaking point...

I runfess... that the post-Murph DOMS were real and they lingered for 5 days. I felt pretty good after I finished the workout. It wasn't until the next day that I started to feel sore. It was even worse the day after that..and the day after that...and well, you get me. I'll just stay over here in the bunker...

I runfess... it feels like a good omen when a portapotty shows up in front of your house. Ok, full disclosure, my street is still under construction. And only a runner would get this. Am I right?

Living the dream...a runner's dream, that is!

I runfess... that I felt panicked when I 'lost' my new Oiselle shorts. I bought them a while ago during a sale and they have quickly become my favorite running shorts. I tore apart my dresser and my closet looking for them. They were nowhere to be found. This past Monday, I was doing the laundry, tidying up the stuff on the dryer, and there they were!

I runfess... that during my search for the shorts, I purged a bunch of Inkburn tops from my dresser and have listed them on eBay. I did this last year--or was it 2019?--and I sold everything I listed. Hoping for the same success this time.

Yep, a rerun

I runfess... that after I saw the hand surgeon this week for a follow-up on my wrist injury, my head was spinning. He told me that the best thing that could have happened would have been a complete rupture of the tendon. What the what? Apparently, the FCR tendon is not an essential tendon. Who knew? So I got a steroid injection and instructions that I can do whatever I want, depending on my pain level. If a rupture occurs, problem solved? If it sounds odd to you, we're in agreement. Stay tuned...

I'm not giving up this dream

What do you have to runfess? Would you make a good soldier? Have you ever lost an item, only to find it again? How would you feel about a portapotty in front of your house? Are you purging any running gear?

I'm linking up with Marcia for Runfessions and with the ladies of Fit Five Friday:  DarleneMichelleReneeJenn, and Zenaida !

  1. Yay on the Oiselle shorts!
Very cool that you are using eBay for your "old" running gear. I am currently on the buying side. I just bought a pair of Asics that were never used by the woman selling them.
It's a win-win-win: she gets rid of her shoes, I save money and it's good for the environment!

  2. I'm forever losing the particular mask I wanted to use right then and there - I did it yesterday with a dentist's appointment and there it was on the airer when I got home! Weird about the tendon, yikes. Mind you my dentist said something similar about one of my teeth yesterday ...

    1. Geez--do they want us to just fall apart on our own?

    2. That made me giggle. I think they do. "If it falls out when you're flossing, it needed to come out". Erm, OK. I suppose he's not trying to make money selling me implants or shoring it up!

    3. Yeah, maybe the surgeon is trying to save me an operation? So weird.

  3. We had a portapotty next door for a while last fall when our neighbors were having construction done! I also lost a pair of Oiselle shorts for a long time. I found them mixed in with my husband's running clothes! That's so strange about your wrist. I just hope it feel s better soon!

    1. Glad you found your shorts too! I've done that before, mixed up my clothes with my hubs. Although he does not run...

  4. Glad your shorts turned up! I swear there is construction every stinking where right now. Getting around is not easy. That's crazy about the tendon. I suppose sooner or later you will succeed in rupturing it and then case closed.

    1. If not, then he will perform an excision... not an exorcism, mind you, altho it does feel like the devil is in there poking me!

  5. I got distracted by your Ryan photo...I was also surprised how sore I was a few days after all my hiking adventures. It took me almost a week to really feel back to myself again. Sign of a great workout? Sign of aging? Who knows but we both still rock it :)

    1. I'm going to go with using different muscles. Because yeah, we are killing it! :p

  6. Yikes on the tendon rupture. That doesn't seem like the right thing to have happen. Will it get better on it's own or will you always have to work around it? What a pain (literally).

    1. The dilemma is that I'm really not a surgical candidate, so he's not as committed to me. At least that is my impression. He isn't wrong about the rupture tho. If it doesn't rupture, he will 'excise' it, so there's that.

  7. I recently found a skirt and calf sleeves that I had lost (both pink!)

I haven't sold on ebay but on FB. Sold 12 skirtsports skirts in minutes. I hate to say that it was such a pain to coordinate money and mailing that I doubt I will do it again. Now I just give stuff away.

Yikes and scary about the wrist.

    1. Ebay makes it easy to sell, all the details are built it. But you don't get all your money, obviously. Still more than you would if you give it away.

  8. Hahaha, that's so funny- my first thought would also be "Great! A porta potty! Oh wait..."
So, the idea is that if the tendon ruptures, you just kind of move on with your life without it since it's not essential? But because it's only partial it's causing you pain? That's different. I'll be interested to see how this plays out.

    1. You and me both. I could tell he was hesitant to tell me what he was thinking, because it does sound messed up. But being in the medical profession helped me understand this. I did also search the literature and there is not much on this injury. I did find a case study like mine, so there's that.

  9. OK I have to admit the tendon thing has me scratching my head. Will it just heal on its own with time?

Yay for finding your shorts! I'm addicted to InknBurn tops so I need to check out what you're selling.

The port-a-potty cracked me up - definitely a sight only a runner could appreciate ;)

    1. I am scratching my head too. Yes, it could heal on its own but he said it could take a long time. Surgical repair isn't very useful.

  10. That's awesome that you were able to sell all of your Inkburn items. Looks like that brand is always in hot demand! I need to go through my running stuff to see if there are nay items I want to donate to goodwill or try to sell on ebay.

The DOMS after Murph sounds brutal! It always baffles me how we can feel so great right after a workout and then our muscles are like "Nope, you actually hurt" lol

    1. It's nice to be able to recoup some of what I paid for the items!

  11. From the graphic I knew this was your post, LOL! I would make a horrible soldier.

Ok, the dx on your hand is decidedly odd, but it's good news in reality, right?

I'm always saying I'm going to list my Skirt Sports stuff I want to get rid of. They're still in a bag. And you know how often I lose things! I spent like 5 minutes searching for my keys before my run -- I had actually driven somewhere to run, I'd popped the trunk -- eventually I did find them, but seriously, who does that happen to? Besides me?

  12. We have ongoing construction & street repair, so the porta pots are aplenty, and I have zero guilt using them LOL The first time I did Murph, I was sore for several days... the pull-ups destroyed my pecks (and they were modified!).

    1. Interesting that the pull-ups destroyed your pecs, because you should use your lats for pull-ups...just saying...:p

  14. LOL-- I can tell you were relieved to have found your shorts! I can totally relate to that. I am so sorry about your wrist injury-- boo. I hope you have a speedy recovery and you end up not needing surgery.

    1. Me too! Although I am nervous if the tendon tears on its own...

  15. I runfess that sometimes when I see people with loose dogs in the distance, I take a different trail. I'm so tired of untrained dogs jumping on me.

    1. Oh my goodness, YES! Especially unleashed dogs. That is a big problem here. So are the poop bags the owners feel the need to leave behind. Do they think there is a magical trail fairy that comes along and picks them up?

  16. I have one or two InkBurn tops I need to sell. Actually I have more from Oiselle that I need to sell too. However, the thought of sitting down and listing the items sounds time consuming. That is great you found your shorts. I remember they're the pocket joggers shorts - those are amazing!

  17. I mean, I wouldn't want the portapotty right in front of my house, but I'm thrilled about the one a few blocks away LOL!

I lost a running tank top after the wash a month ago, and was so pissed. But I found it! Yay!

I haven't tried Oiselle shorts yet. They "look" cute, but I don't have anywhere to try them on in person, so I would have to make my best guess on size and hate dealing with returns.

    1. I just ordered my regular size. These particular shorts come in different lengths, which is a really nice option!

  18. Glad the shorts weren't lost forever. My usual lost items are in the bag from the wash and fold that I haven't put away yet.
I'm slowly listing some of my early Skirt Sports skirts on the resale site. I'm far from a minimalist, but there's no room for clothes that don't fit well and I therefore won't wear.
100% not a good soldier, for one I don't camp

    1. Oooh, I am not a camper either. I don't mind rustic, but i need a roof over my head and a mattress under my body. If that's high maintenance, then I'm guilty as charged!

  19. I runfess that last week was the first time I've used resistance bands, during a class. Pretty cool. I'll probably be using them in the future.

Not sure how I'd feel about a porta potty in front of my house. However, the park people can install as many as they want on the trails 😄
