Coffee Talk

Let's catch up over coffee! What are you having? Today I'm drinking Metropolitan Red Line, a local Chicago blend. It's dark and roasty. And so good! As always, I have it with a scoop of GLG collagen and a splash of half and half.

What would you tell me over coffee?

If we were having coffee... do you remember that speeding ticket I 'fessed to earlier last month? I have to tell you that I have been unable to pay it. The police officer told me I could pay it online and receive supervision. Even though I received the ticket in the town where I live, the county collects the fines. So I logged onto the website called 'Pay My Ticket' only to find out that it is not working. I called the county clerk's office for help and got no answers. I called the police department in my town and they told me to call the county. So here I sit, with a ticket I can't pay. Stay tuned...

If we were having coffee... I'd tell you that I had my annual physical and my last ever pap smear! If you didn't know, the guidelines have changed for pap smears to every 3-5 years until age 65. My physician told me that after this one, I am done. I won't miss having that procedure. Finally! I've found one benefit of getting older!

If we were having coffee... I'd tell you that my pup Crazy Cocoa bit the pizza guy. A few weeks ago when I arrived home from work, the hubs announced that 'we can't order from Wayne's any more'. Apparently, he opened the door to get the pizza from the delivery man and Cocoa ran out, attacking the pizza man's ankles. The guy dropped the pizza and lost his glasses. I guess he was ok because we never heard anything from the pizza place. But can I just comment that this doesn't happen when I answer the door?

If we were having coffee... I'd tell you that on a rainy, gloomy day recently, I cleaned out my closet. Finally. I've been putting it off all winter. After all the craptastic weather we've had this spring, it was either a nervous breakdown due to the weather or keeping myself busy. Even better, I also found a pair of pants with the tags still on that I've never worn. They needed to be hemmed and I must have put them away for later. While threading the needle was a challenge (old eye problems), I got it done. Feeling very accomplished!

If we were having coffee... I'd share how I have mixed feelings about my youngest graduating from college next week. I am so proud of him--he is graduating with distinction--but I also am feeling a bit sad! It's such a weird feeling and I'm wondering if anyone else feels this way about their kids growing up?

What would you tell me over coffee? Does anyone else live in a place where local government is so screwed up that you can't pay a speeding ticket? Are you up to date on your medical screenings? I've got my mammogram/ultrasound scheduled for July. Tell me one of your crazy pet stories! Have you done any spring cleaning?

I'm linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date and with the ladies of Fit Five Friday:  DarleneMichelleReneeJenn, and Zenaida.

  1. I am sure it is a wonderful feeling you won't need more pap smears. I cannot remember the last one I had but I know my doctor will remind me. No problem here in Chicago paying my fines. They sure have their system set up correctly! :-)

    1. Really? I have to go through the exact same system as you do. I keep hoping they fix it.

  2. Our youngest walked the collegiate stage, in cap and gown, back in December. It IS very surreal. I don't feel "old" enough to have my "kids" all done with college, LOL. It's very rewarding, though, to sit back and smile in admiration of all of the adult things they're doing.

  3. No more pap smears is worthy of a happy dance! (You've also reminded me I need to book mine...)

Congrats on your son's graduation! I've been feeling very sentimental lately about my kids getting older - I blame all of the memories popping up in my Facebook feed lol

  4. Oh, I'm SO sad about my kids growing up! I can't believe my son is halfway through college (how did that happen so fast?) and my daughter is graduating from middle school. I've got four more years of a kid living at home, and I know how fast that goes. Congratulations to your son though! I'm sure there's a big feeling of accomplishment along with the melancholy.
I have some major spring cleaning coming up this weekend- the house is completely out of control. I"ll definitely be driving around with bags for Goodwill in my trunk, ha ha.

  5. Congrats on your son's graduation. Time does fly, doesn't it?
Here's how screwed up my son's speeding ticket was. There was a speed trap set up on the downhill side of an overpass that drops from 45 to 35mph. My son was still going 45mph, so they waved him over along with multiple others. When the police filled out the ticket, they used GPS to mark the location, but it filled in the speed limit for the highway under the overpass. So he was issued a ticket for driving 45mph in a 65mph zone. He went to court and they had to dismiss it. I wonder how many others never noticed the mistake and just paid.

    1. Ugh. That is ridiculous! Sadly, I don't even have a court date. Our government is so screwed up.

  10. I know you said that you hadn't heard anything from that Pizza guy, let's just hope he doesn't come back in a few months and want compensation ( I've watched too much judge Judy....LOL) I am so happy for you that your youngest son is about to graduate. How accomplished you must feel. I've be reading your blog for a long time now and I can remember some of the challenges you've had with your boys. You can relax now. Good Job Mama!!

  11. In Cape Town, you only pay your fines when you need to renew the car licence. They let it all pile up and then you pay up once a year. It works quite well!
Will you need to pay an extra fee for the payment delay? That would be so unfair!

    1. It's not due until May 17, so I still have time to figure it out. So frustrating!

  12. so weird that you can't pay the ticket and literally no one can help you. i mean it's not like you WANT to part with the money, but being a good citizen you obviously want to take care of it. sheesh.
Here we only have paps after 40 I think? They just lowered the age, it was 50. So much for preventative care. I have to say though I'm surprised we can stop having them. So we can't get cancer or other things after a certain age?
Sorry to hear that coco bit the pizza guy. I'm glad it didn't end up a really bad situation!

    1. Re the pap smears--I think there's always the possibility of cancer but they weight the outcomes and I guess decide if it is financially beneficial to do the screening. Ugh

  13. Ugh on the ticket hassle -- hopefully you won't get a late fee!

Congrats on your son's graduation. It is a momentous occasion -- especially when it's your youngest.

Woohoo on your last PAP smear. That's another reason to celebrate. :-)

    1. Yeah, I feel bad that the electrician's union didn't celebrate my oldest's completion of his apprenticeship. I think after 5 years, that is worth celebrating!

  14. I hope this means you won't need to deal with paying the ticket?! (Fingers crossed!)

Yay for no more pap smears, haha. Definitely not one that I ever look forward to (I need to book that...I'm definitely overdue by a couple months at this point. ._. )
