Who's Old? I Mean, Cold?

Finally, this cold month of January is coming to an end. We've had decent temperatures this week and with 2 weeks to go before the Mercedes Half Marathon, I needed some good runs. For the most part, the pavement was clear and I was able to pick up the pace again.

Before I start my weekly wrap-up, I want to give a big shout out to Teresa, who blogs at Finding Fabulous at Fifty. She ran her first ever marathon this weekend, the Mississippi Blues Marathon. That's 26.2 miles IN THE POURING RAIN, y'all. All the while battling foot issues. She finished strong and I am so proud of her. Please be sure to go over to her blog or Instagram and congratulate her!

Running:
The sun was shining for most of my runs this week! After being sick last weekend, I was really pleased with my 6 miler on Wednesday, where I did 9:1 run walk intervals. Maybe it was all the good juju in the Lotus pullover I bought from fellow INB ambassador Liz. Thursday's 4 at the pond was remarkable for all the ice on the path. I don't know how I stayed upright but I did, like a boss. Thank you core.

Saturday, Steph and I ran 9. She likes to run for 2 miles and then stop for water, so we adjusted our pace accordingly. It was perfect running conditions--about 40 degrees and sunny. I felt great and we finished with about 9:45m/m. Sunday was another picture perfect morning and I did a speedy 4 around my neighborhood, using 9:1 run/walk intervals. I stopped and played at the park, doing some yoga and carioca. It's hard to believe this is January!

CrossFit:
There was only one CF session this week, as I was still recovering from my tummy bug on Monday.
On Thursday, Sammy Jo had me do some back squats and lower body work. Then we did the fun stuff--she's going to help me work on my handstands to hold them longer. While this strict press doesn't look like I'm lifting much (it was 55#), it was hard! The funny part was when she added 10 pounds of weight, I could only do 3 reps and then couldn't get the bar past my shoulders. It's amazing what a difference a little bit of weight makes.

Yoga:
Since I didn't go to CF on Monday, I did a YouTube vinyasa yoga class at home. It's been a while since I've done vinyasa and it felt good to move like that. I missed it and will be adding more yoga back into my weekly regimen.

Off the Road:
I don't always share my off the road fun but when I do...Saturday night, my sister and I attended a screening of some short films from the 2017 Mountainfilm Film Festival. The Mountainfilm Festival, an adventure film festival, is held every Memorial Day weekend in Telluride Colorado. The films were all entertaining, inspiring, and just excellent. I could have watched all night.

Here's my favorite film. It's the perfect way to close out this Weekly Wrap post--4 minutes of female badassery. Have a great week and go do great things!

  1. That does not look like a light weight to me! I always forget about the you tube yoga options when I can't get to class. My goal this week is to make it at least one class. Something I accomplished this week was getting back to my runs and workouts. Thanks for the linkup nice to be back

  2. I'm glad you were feeling better this week. Nobody is old around here. Love, love, love that video and the song. I think I saw a younger me in there (and now I feel much better because she wasn't wearing lipstick either). Uh-oh, now we may need to up our water skiing video plans. Hmmmm....

  4. You're getting really good at those handstands! I haven't really gone upside down since my surgery. I'd be surprised if I could even hold one up against the wall! (not that I could hold one without the wall BEFORE my surgery. lol)

Yes, I'm totally enjoying this thaw!! Just in time for some snow on Tuesday. Good grief.

  8. Our weather is back and forth. it warms up (at to 40) and then it's back down.

I ran a 3 mile race today and won my AG. win-win.

2 weeks until a half!! Wow! I have 7 until mine.

  9. The warm-up has felt great, but today's cool down was a bit crazy LOL None the less, I'm ready for summer.

  10. Wow, you look triumphant with those weights!

I always struggle with what I put in my weekly wrap because sometimes I have more non running fun than I do running and workouts. I do like hearing about the fun things others do that are not workout related. Fun that you got to go to the movie screening!

    1. I don't always put non-running stuff in my wrap up, but this was just the coolest experience! A lot of people share their off the road life in the wraps along with their workouts and that's ok too!

  12. That weight definitely doesn't look like nothing! I'm always surprised by the difference just a small amount of weight can change a movement. This week, I started personal training so I can be in the best shape to start marathon training!

    1. Carioca is a variation of a dance move (and I'm not a dancer)--it's a lateral movement where you criss cross your feet to improve your agility. Watch a football game and you'll see guys doing it as a warm up.

  17. We didn't get snow, but we did have some biting wind on Friday and today. Yesterday wasn't too bad. I do a lot of yoga off youtube these days, so I can do it on my schedule. There are so many choices, but I'm mostly doing stretching and breathing for stress release.

    1. We've definitely been battling the wind! But the warmer temperatures bring it along, so it's just something we have to deal with.

  18. I'm not a fan of the super cold weather we had at the beginning of the month...20s and 30s are a little much for me. But I do enjoy waking up and being able to sleep in and still run in the late morning like I did last Friday. Being in the 60s all morning can hang around as far as I'm concerned!

  21. Ha- it was semi warm this week but by that I mean 46 degrees one morning but that was incredible. It's supposed to snow tomorrow though and get cold again next week ☹ you are such a beast with the weights and that's a good thing !

  22. Nice handstand! That's impressive on it's own, but after a run is whoa! This week was good - shorts for TWO days in a row!

  25. Teresa is definitely bada$$.

We got warmer this weekend, but since my running group insists on running early, it was NOT at all warm for our long run (and super cold & windy midweek). Although in fairness to them 8 am isn't late, but seriously, I would prefer it a little later. And it would be a little warmer, too. Bottom line: most of my runs were cold or inside. Whine, whine, whine.

However, my "long" run sat was also on the speedy side for me plus I felt great the next day (well, until the whole visiting the parents show & Bandit needing to go out multiple times last night) -- so despite all the whining, there's that.

Sorry about being such a whiner. :) Last week was just tough due to major lack of sleep pretty much the entire week. This week will be better!

  26. I always say that I'm going to add more yoga, but does it happen? Ahem, not so much. That film festival sounds like a lot of fun, especially the spending time with your sister part!

Thawing out is not the right word for it, but we are warming up. Mid-80s all week! Nice, but still, when you live in a desert you get a little worried about those high temps in January. I mean, what will summer bring?

  27. We are downright spring-like in Seattle. I think this morning is warm enough for shorts! I wouldn't mind a cold day or a bit of snow, but that might be because the warm weather means non-stop rain!
