Happy Friday!! I haven't shared any new music lately and since I'm gearing up for a race next week, I've been freshening up my playlist. Whenever I do these music posts, the number one comment I receive is "I've never heard of any of these songs!" That's my goal. Personally, when I'm running, the last thing I want to listen to is mindless ear candy. Save those songs for the car. My running playlists are always eclectic, with some oldies and classics, some fun pop, and then these outliers that I actually look forward to hearing. Give them a listen, take them for a run, and tell me what you think.
Half Man, Half Machine by Clement Marfo
I first heard this song when my sister and I attended that Mountain Films adventure film festival. I could not find a video of the song, so I'm sharing the short film with you. I love the energy that this song brings and every time I hear it, it makes me think of this guy going over the waterfall on an inflatable lobster! Which of course makes me smile and that always makes a run feel easier.
No Good by Kaleo
"You better start runnin' when you hear the man comin'"
My Shot feat. The Roots, Busta Rhymes, Joell Ortiz, Nate Ruess
My Shot is from the musical Hamilton. This remix fits my running style better than the original. Either way, you can't go wrong. I love the lyrics.
Champion by Brother Ali
This is an oldie but goodie and I recently discovered it. Now I have 4 songs on my playlist titled Champion! Keeping it positive....
Giver by K.Flay
I just really like this one. "I'm trying to be better..."
What do you think? Are you going to add any of these to your playlist? Do you have any off the beaten track songs for me to check out?
I'm linking up with Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday 5!

It's always fun to find new songs to add to your playlist! I really only listen to music when I run on the treadmill, but its always nice to find new songs. It gets boring listening to the same ones over and over!
ReplyDeleteI agree! With my eclectic musical tastes, I have trouble finding songs that I like. But when I do, I hang onto them for a long time.
DeleteOkay so you may remember I am a podcast girl BUT I of course I love music so let me drop an off the beaten path song for you to try running to... Goodnight Moon by Shivaree.
ReplyDeleteI will check out that song when I get home from work today!!!
DeleteI have not heard any of these songs before! That guy on the inflatable pool toy-hilarious! Maybe that is a new "sport" I should take up lol thanks for the ideas and happy Friday
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the funniest video? I laugh every time I see it and the song reminds me of it. All good!
DeleteWe kicked off spinning with that version of My Shot this week - it was fantastic! I need to take time to explore music more. I get in a lazy, rut.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that a great song? Have you seen Hamilton? Now I want to!
DeleteYou're right - I haven't heard of most of these but will definitely check them out! I love Kaleo!
ReplyDeleteI like all the Kaleo I've heard so far!
DeleteI can always use a new good running song! I haven't herd of any of these so I need to check them out.
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun to find new music, right?
DeleteI love My Shot and it's definitely on my playlist. But I haven't heard any of these other ones, I'm going to have to check them out :)
ReplyDeleteI'm loving My Shot! It kind of fits with my 4 different "Champion" songs...
DeleteOOOH - I like the NO GOOD song. Great guitar! :) My hubby would like that, plus it's got a great beat too! I'm listening as I type this. You may like some steal guitars songs from the Bayou. Great running music!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that a great rocker? I'll check out the ones you suggested too.
DeleteI'm also in the process of finalizing my playlist for next week. It's pretty random, and it works for me :)
ReplyDeleteThe running plays is so personal, isn't it?
DeleteYou're right. I hadn't heard of any of them! :-) I usually listen to books when I run, but I do need to update my music so I'll check them out.
ReplyDeleteI have such an eclectic mix and I'm sure that I have a few songs you may be familiar with... :p
DeleteThis sounds a little odd but The Greatest Showman track is really great while running. I highly suggest it!
ReplyDeleteI will check it out!
DeleteThat guy on the lobster is crazy! Looks like fun, but crazy!
ReplyDeleteI really like the song No Good by Kaleo. Thanks for the new music.
Crazy but isn't he cute? I love that video!
Deletenope, had not heard of any of these...but the Half Man Half Machine totally grabbed me (and the video is awesome (I'm glad the dude was wearing a helmet!).
ReplyDeleteIsn't that a great video (and song!)?
DeleteI’ve not heard any of these songs! I need to add some new ones! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
DeleteWell, I don't run to music, but no, I haven't heard these songs! Some definitely sound interesting -- thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for checking them out!
DeleteI usually find new music from Spotify's playlists - but this reminds me I actually haven't updated my running playlists in forever!
ReplyDeleteSince I like such offbeat tunes, Spotify is a great place to find them!
DeleteThank you I have been looking for some new running songs and these are perfect!!! I think my favorite is - I’m trying to be better
ReplyDeleteAren't we all?
DeleteWhat a bunch of fun picks! I really need to start running with music! BTW--unrelated, but I saw your post on Marcia's site last week. We have a pool so we have a 5-foot fence, and watched the coyotes hop it almost daily this past winter! Keep an eye on Cocoa! We have neighbors with fences higher than ours that said they hopped theirs, too!
ReplyDeleteYikes!!! Thanks for the warning!
DeleteThese are awesome! I'm always looking for new music to jazz up my playlist. Going to add "my shot" to my tracks right now!
ReplyDeleteIf you want a less "rap" version, check out the original from the musical.
DeleteI find new songs when I'm listening to satellite radio in my car. I take a pic and then add it to my Amazon playlist! These are great -- adding now!!
ReplyDeleteI gave up satellite radio for Spotify--more variety!
DeleteYou're right, I haven't heard of any of these songs!
ReplyDeleteI'm into older stuff, as the only current music I really listen to is Christian. But, I love older music from previous decades. I would say Rave On by Buddy Holly is a good one, as is Step to the Rhythm by the MMC.
If you like Christian, you might not like most of my music! Oldies are good, tho.
DeleteGreat list! I don't run with music, because I have headphones on half the time for work so like to run with free ears! But I do like running to punk songs - original ones. Fast and fun!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny--I used to run without music. Then the iPod came along and made it easy to have tunes in my ears! I can run without music but do I want to?
DeleteYou are right once again! Thanks for sharing more songs I have not heard of!
ReplyDeleteLately I have been into listening to podcasts during walks (as I get back to running).
I have not gotten into podcasts yet. I think they require me to focus on the conversation instead of what's going on with my body while I'm running and I can't multi-task like that.
Deletehaha, you're right! I haven't heard of any of these songs before, but definitely off to check em' out!
ReplyDeleteNever heard of these ! Eclectic is a good way to describe your music taste for sure! I did like the first one.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites is already quite old but still gets me going - it’s called Release yo delf by Method Man (prodigy mix). Maybe you would actually like this one too.
I will check that one out for sure!
DeleteI'll have to give these a listen, though I haven't listened to music out on a run in many months. :)
