...Because Sitting on the Sidelines is No Fun

First of all, an apology. Holly and I were set to go live at 4:30 today. I texted her at 2:30 to tell her I wouldn't be ready. I had a post prepared and ready to go. Then, on a whim, both my boys and I joined my husband and his father for a fun weekend on Lake Wisconsin. It's been a full 3 years since we've been able to do this. The boys are busy with their friends and work, we don't want to leave them home alone, and fast forward to a Friday night when we all realized that we could make this happen.

I don't have to tell you how special this was for me or how much fun it was. We didn't want to leave. Sadly, the boat told us that it was time to go when it finally stopped being able to pull my boys out of the water. We gave the boat quite a workout. We skied, we wakeboarded, we kneeboarded. While my husband manned the boat, we each took our turns behind the boat. No one wanted to stop. My oldest son not only wakeboarded but got up for the first time on one ski and did some slaloming. I have no doubt that if the boat hadn't been such a jerk, my youngest would have gotten up on one ski as well. It was one of those weekends that warms a mom's heart.

Now you know why my tagline for this blog is 'sitting on the sidelines is no fun'. I never wanted to be that mom sitting on the bench, watching my boys have fun. I want to be right there, having fun with them. My heart is full.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Thanks for your understanding! Now, on with the Weekly Wrap!

Running

It's been a steamy week of running. On Wednesday, I ran to the retention pond with a goal of 7 miles. Don't ask me why I felt the need to push the distance during the week, but hey, I've been feeling really good...anyways, I kind of crashed and burned after about 5 miles. I'm not sure if it was my faster than I should have been running first couple of miles or the humidity, but I finished up my 6 and did the walk of shame for the last mile home. I had to work that afternoon and not vomiting was a win.

Ain't no mountain high enough... or fence...

Saturday's run started off a little later than I wanted but no matter. While the temperatures were in the low 70s, the humidity was ridiculous. I couldn't get into a groove and I felt like I had a monkey on my back for most of the run. My knees weren't happy either, so instead of the 10 I had planned, I did 6. Better than nothing, right?  Sunday morning, I woke up to thick fog at the lake. Knowing we were going to do more waterskiing on Sunday, I wanted to save my legs and so I ran a 5k. Those hills of Wisconsin have nothing on me!

CrossFit
Coach Sammy Jo had me work on upper body mostly this week. I first did bench presses followed by cleans. I struggle with cleans because to me, they are like a dance move and we all know I can't dance. Thank goodness she hasn't asked me to snatch...anyways, after that, I did a circuit of prowler push, med ball situps, and hamstring curls.

I stretched and got ready for bootcamp. We did a 30 minute EMOM with 6 different sets of activities. Slam balls, situps, medball runs, burpees, wall balls, pushups, and rows...oh my! After 5 rounds, we were done and I don't think I've ever sweated so much! It's all good.

Yoga
Thank goodness for yoga. This week, I was able to do 2 full classes from Five Parks Yoga. Still recovering from my very stressful week last week at work, on Monday, I did the Yoga for Stress and Anxiety class.  On Wednesday after I ran, I had time for Deep Stretch for Hips with Slow Flow. This may be my new favorite class. Erin hit all the spots that needed work and I felt fantastic after this class.

Also on Monday, I worked on handstand with Coach Cocoa giving me a little encouragement before I kicked up. Who doesn't need that?

Waterskiing
I guess I need a category for this! We skied, boarded, etc multiple times throughout the weekend. I think this counts for some kind of endurance training! I hope I did my WW partner proud!

How was your week? Did you do anything fun and spontaneous? Do you forgive me for delaying the WW?

  1. Sounds like a great weekend ;-) Glad you were able to get one last hurrah in with the entire family....I bet the water felt great after the week of heat and humidity.

  2. We all appreciate that you run the linkup & of course you need time with your family! It goes too fast. Nothing terribly exciting this week. It's hard to do exciting stuff with all the rain & thunderstorms!

    1. Yeah, we haven't had much in the way of storms! In fact, it's been really dry!

  3. We finally got cooler temperatures in PA! They exist hang in there!! I've never water skiied but I imagine it's demanding on your legs. I'm glad you chose to have fun over getting a certain number of miles done. Whenever I do that running starts to feel like a chore.

  4. Aw, what a great weekend! I know how precious those times are. Bummer the boat gave out (?) but maybe it's good to leave the boys wanting more? ;-) I should check out those yoga programs. My hips need some TLC!

    1. We're hoping that the boat holds out for Labor Day. Then it can go into the boat hospital!

  5. No need to apologize! Spending time with family is always #1 and it looks like you had an amazing time this weekend!

Also I'm loving the new WW badge - such a fun photo! :) Love you both!!

  6. Sounds like fun! In my opinion, there's nothing more fun than a spending time with my sons and wife/girlfriend. In fact, we spent the weekend with Joseph and Julie in NJ and it was soooooo fun!

    Thanks for the linkup!

  7. That.is.awesome. In high school, I had a friend's mom who would wakeboard, waterski and do some crazy stuff along with us. We loved it! In fact, I think she still might be skiing!

  10. How great that your whole family was able to get out on the boat! I've never successfully gotten up on water skis, so I don't know from experience, but it sure looks like a kind of endurance training.

  11. Sounds like an amazing weekend! I have never heard of Lake Wisconsin, where is it? Very valid reason for a delay in the link-up :)

    1. Ha! I'm glad you agree. Lake Wisconsin is just north of Madison and south of the Wisconsin Dells. There's an exit for it off of I-90.

    1. Yep, a weekend on the lake was definitely what we all needed. It sure helped with the humidity too.

  13. So fun that you and the family got to ski together. There is nothing more fun. We used to do that all the time but then the kids got older and so did we and now we have a bigger boat that you can't ski off of. Still love being on the eater.

  14. Vlogging can always wait. Family always comes first and I think everyone understands that
Hmm just another reason we should perhaps do the weekly wrap on Mondays..(haha I'm really pushing that aren't I).

I'm glad you are that kind of mom that participates in fun things with her kids. My parents were like that too. I can remember them even joining us at the water parks on the slides!

    1. Um, I actually typed Blogging but apparently my phone doesn't understand that word because it wants to change it to vlogging..lol

    2. Oh, I was that mom going down the waterslides too..

I talked with Holly about having the linkup on Mondays but that doesn't work with her work schedule. We do keep it open through Weds so everyone gets the chance to share their recaps.

    1. This weekend was great. After the couple of years when the boys wanted very little to do with us on the weekends, it came around full circle. I really couldn't be more happy right now! Happy and very sore.

  16. How lovely to have that family time! More important than blogging, I'd say ...

I do like your pictures although that orange fencing you're jumping over reminds me of rolling up miles of it after the intercounty cross-country championships in the mud. That's probably a very specific outcome to seeing that photo, however!

I really hope it gets less humid everywhere. I had a HORRIBLE run yesterday and like you, not vomiting was a win. Not that I ever do, but at the end, I said to Ruth, "No one fell over, no one was sick: we did it!".

    1. I've never vomited after a run, but it's probably because I stop before that happens. I've come close a few times this summer, which is really unusual for me!

  18. Sounds like a great weekend. Great times with family and friends definitely outweigh blogging!

As I read posts this morning, almost everyone leads with the humidity. It is obviously a thing. When I do my race recap for Wednesday I will probably lead with it too. :-)

I would love to get to the point of doing a headstand...hopefully one day!

Wandering through Brooklyn on Saturday was pretty spontaneous for me, but I hate being spontaneous so it was miserable at times, haha!

  20. That's so fun that you got to spend time with your family on vacation! Those weekends with families are so special. I would love to be dealing with humidity right now - the smoke is so bad here that I'm stuck on the treadmill, at least when it was humid I could be outside. Your strength workouts always look challenging and fun - great work this week!

  28. You can’t beat family moments like that and I’m so glad you didn’t sit on the sidelines! Way to get in there and live life to the fullest with all of your guys! I feel the happiest when I’m out running around with my older two though sometimes I feel conflicted... when I get too wrapped up in big boy games, our baby usually crawls off and finds trouble (eats rocks). It’s just a season! But seriously trying to keep that baby from choking himself...

  36. I was wondering what happened because I tried to link up on Sunday but ended up submitting on Monday instead...but I'm glad its because you were having fun!!
