Coffee Talk

Let's sit down over a cup of coffee and catch up! What are you having? I'm sipping on Dunkin's holiday version--it's more roasty than the regular blend--with a scoop of GLG collagen and a splash of half and half.

What's new with you?

If we were having coffee, I'd tell you that I'm slowly putting up the Christmas decorations. When the boys were little, they were always so excited about the holidays, and I couldn't put the decorations up fast enough. But now it's just me doing the decorating and I'm taking my time. Putting the ornaments on the tree is always a trip down memory lane. I have ornaments from all my vacations. I also gave the boys an ornament every year. Plus, I have all the ornaments they made for me when they were little. Makes me melancholy and happy at the same time.

The mittens were a Christmas craft one year

Speaking of Christmas decorations, if we were having coffee, I'd share that my next door neighbors have an elaborate display in their front yard. They have spotlights on it which shine RIGHT INTO MY BATHROOM WINDOW! It always reminds me of that scene in Christmas Vacation when Chevy Chase turns on his outdoor display and blinds his neighbors. God forbid I have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. My retinas take about 15 minutes to recover from the exposure. At least there's no Cousin Eddie visiting.

Yep, he blinded me again...

If we were having coffee, I'd tell you that my Ninja blender fortuitously bit the dust Monday morning. I say this because it was Cyber Monday and Amazon had deals on Vitamix blenders! I was blending my Blueberry Pie Smoothie when it happened. It made a weird noise and then smelled like it was burning. I'll tell ya, timing is everything.

Actually, I just don't like to shop.

If we were having coffee, I'd show you how my plants have taken over my kitchen table. Last year, I canceled my succulent subscription, but mysteriously, they're arriving again. I've also had to bring in my outdoor succulents for the winter. My coworkers gifted me the orchid for Nurse Practitioner week. My Christmas cactus bloomed last week. They're all thriving in this very sunny space.

If we were having coffee, I'd ask you what you've been watching. We just finished Squid Game. I wasn't going to watch it, but my sister liked it. I usually trust her recommendations and yeah, it was worth the watch. It's weird, violent, intense, and highly addictive. And can we talk about that ending? We watched the English dubbed version, but my son thinks it's better in Korean with the subtitles. We've tried a few other series, but nothing has been a must-watch. Currently, we're checking out Yellowjackets.

What would you tell me over coffee? How is the holiday decorating coming along? Any obnoxious outdoor holiday displays? Did you get any Cyber Monday deals? Are you addicted to plants? What are streaming?

I'm linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date and with the ladies of Fit Five Friday:  DarleneMichelleReneeJenn, and Zenaida.

  1. Love your plants! No house plants or Christmas tree here thanks to two very "lively" cats! I will hopefully put up the little stuffed tree with button decorations I made one year. My husband watched Squid Game and now can't watch any other gameshows without being reminded of it!

  2. That’s a lot of plants on that table! I have a few orchids — my Mom gives us one for every holiday and my husband keeps them alive.

Decorating the tree is a labor of love for me for similar reasons. I even have an ornament I made when I was 5 that my Mom held on to.

We are watching Morning Show and Ozark. I couldn’t handle Squid Game.

  3. That is too funny about the neighbor's holiday lights! Wow, you do have a lot of plants. I somehow seem to kill mine just not a green thumb over here. We watched Squid Games in Korean w subtitles. A little violent for me but was impossible to stop watching! In a lull right now looking for something to watch

    1. We're trying Yellowjackets but my hubs doesn't love it. Stay tuned...

  4. Everyone in the immediate family has watched Squid Game but me. I saw a few scenes, when the hubby was watching, and I had to leave the room. The violence is just not my gig, but I know the show has really gone crazy with its huge following. Oh, I want a Christmas cactus! I might have to gift myself one ;-)

    1. Violence is not my gig either but it's a really good show, so I just let it roll over me. Well worth the watch.

  5. You have a lot of plants on the table! Here it would be an impossibile mission because of the cats!
My wife is preparing the stuff to decorate the Christmas tree.

    1. Thankfully no cats here! But I do need to stop adding to my collection.

  6. The inside of our house is decorated- mostly- but I haven't done the outside yet. That's on tap for this weekend! We have a couple people who go all out (luckily not right next to us.) Every inch of the hard and house are decorated, including the roof, and there's Christmas music playing. When my kids were little it was a nightly event to go for a walk and look at those houses. I always thought if you didn't celebrate Christmas it would be REALLY annoying.
I have this old ornament my sister made when she was little. It was some Sunday school project where they decorated the eggs (from Legs pantyhose, remember those?)with glitter. We had a famous argument one year because I didn't want her to put it on the tree because it looked "shabby." Not sure how I ended up with it instead of her, but every year I put The Egg on my tree and send her a picture.

  7. That was supposed to read "every inch of the YARD...."

  8. We have anew neighbor and of course a huge obnoxious blow up snowman and lots of lights.

I like to decorate but discreetly. Haven't started yet but did write out my cards.

I am succulent obsessed too. They are going crazy. I need to repot them but haven't. My xmas cacti bloomed for Thanksgiving and Easter!?

Tempted but didn't watch the Squid games...so many other shows and I rarely even watch TV.

    1. Can I just say I do not like those huge blow up decorations? So tacky.

  9. The holiday decorations in my neighborhood are pretty tame - just some bows, wreaths and lights. If I had my own house with a nice size yard I would probably be the obnoxious neighbor with an inflatable penguin in the yard, lol.

I still need to watch Squid Games. Normally I'm not one for violent shows, but I've hear a lot of good things about it.

    1. I loved Squid Game. It's an amazing show--you just have to look past the violence.

  10. That's a great plant collection! Would you believe for as much as I love to garden, I do not have any houseplants?

We'll be decorating this weekend - though like you, the tree will be mostly me. Don't you love looking at all of the ornaments made when they were kids? Sigh...

I'm not sure I'll get around to Squid Games as I don't do well with violent shows. I still have the Morning Show and Modern Love in the queue.

    1. I'm doing much better with the memories when i decorate the tree. It used to make me sad, but now I'm ok with it.

  11. There are always obnoxious outdoor displays but thankfully none that shine in my window. I wouldn’t be happy about that.

I’m not much into violent movies/series so I haven’t looked at Squid Games. I really like the first season of Westworld but by the third season I’d had enough so we never saw how it ended.

Nice score on the Vitamix! I love mine. It y second but I think the first one lasted 15 years. Actually it was still working but wasn’t as strong anymore.

  12. I follow a few plant people on TikTok that make me want to fill my house with plants. I have a bunch of plants outside. Some do really well and some I continually kill and have to replace.

  13. So Squid Game is good, huh? I haven't seen it. I have a Blendtec that I also love. I've had it for a number of years and still working fine. I like making Christmas ornaments with my students and am excited to make them again this year (since last year was no-no).

  14. We watched the first episode of Squid Games and I said no mas. It just seemed ridiculous. Maybe I should give it another chance?? I did not care for the violence. At all. I failed to bring in my large succulent pot this year and I think I froze some of them...

    1. I've frozen out a few succulents in the past. This year, I got them in all safe and sound! And they survived the transition. Fingers crossed I get them through the winter.

I definitely would give Squid Game another go. It gets pretty interesting as it goes on.

  15. Talking about your neighbour's spotlight...my neighbour decided to put one up (he says for security purposes) a few months ago. But it is one of those industrial ones that belong at a warehouse and not in a residential area. Worst part, not only does it lights up his whole backyard and mine, but also my bedroom!! We spoke to him and he moved it slightly but because it is so huge our room is never actually properly dark at night.

  16. We've had our Christmas tree since the Saturday after Thanksgiving and I just can NOT make the time to add the ornaments! My husband has a TON from his childhood, but I usually try to add a little more elegance to the tree, so it's a thing...hopefully I'll get it done before this week is out!

And I just got my outdoor lights together, thanks to my sister's help! Those LED's are pretty bright! But yeah, maybe if you let your neighbor know, they can angle it away from your window! They may not realize it!

    1. You are right! But I'm ok with just closing the bathroom door at night. Sometimes it's best to just leave it alone, lol

  17. Oh noooo (on the blender and your neighbor's decorations). That's awesome about the Vitamix deal though! I've been wanting one for a while -- not sure why I didn't think to look for it then.

I love all your plants! I still have just the plant my boss gave me when I first started working but hoping to add to that collection soon.

I still haven't finished Squid Game! (I got really sad after the marble game.)

    1. I did get sad after that episode too, but I had to see how it all turned out!

  18. Well, at least your blender did you a favor and broke on a good sale day! Hope you enjoy your new one!

I exhaust myself every Thanksgiving Friday and Saturday and get all of my house decorated in a marathon effort. Then on Sunday I drove to my Mom's house and spent two days decorating her house and baking cookies. I've hardly touched shopping this year and still have to order our Christmas cards.
