Campfessions

I feel like we just did this, but here we are again, at the end of another month, at the door of the Runfessional. Do you runfess? It's a great way to clear your soles and souls of transgressions from the month. Marcia makes it easy.

What do you have to runfess?

I campfess... one of the best parts about Camp Run Happy was wearing running clothes the whole time! It was so easy to pack and easy to decide what to wear. We did have to wear costumes for the evening events, but those were also partly running clothes. So comfy!

I campfess... that while at Camp Run Happy, instead of doing a trail run, we did a trail hike. I struggled with the altitude--mostly with shortness of breath, headaches, and head funk. I was pretty bummed that I couldn't let loose on the trail run. Maybe if we'd been there a little longer, I could have acclimated more.

I campfess... that after the meal we had on the first night of camp, Deborah and I found our own food. We were in Park City...there were good food options...we were hungry. High maintenance? Bad campers? Thank goodness we didn't have to sleep in a tent.

I campfess... that as much as I was darned glad to be at Camp Run Happy, dare I admit that I felt a little..um...old? This was definitely a younger (20s-30a) crowd. Don't get me wrong, everyone was so nice and friendly. But... you might be an old runner when another runner tells you about her mom that runs. And don't even get me started on "you look great...for your age".

FYI, Lisa Kudrow is the same age as me.
Just saying.

I campfess... the morning after I arrived home from Camp Run Happy, I tested positive for Covid. I woke up in the middle of the night with body aches. Sadly, I had to cancel my planned trip to Brooklyn for my nephew's wedding taking place today. While my symptoms are fairly mild, my biggest complaint is fatigue. I haven't done much this week besides sleeping and reading books, so I won't be posting a weekly rundown on Sunday.

What do you have to runfess? Have you struggled with altitude on a run or a hike? Do you prefer comfy clothes or do you like to dress up? Rustic camping or glamping? How do you respond to backhanded compliments? Have you avoided Covid so far?

I'm linking up with Marcia for Runfessions and with the ladies of Fit Five Friday: DarleneMichelle, Jenn, and Zenaida.

  1. Well, you know my idea of camp is the meme you have up there! That was too funny about the "you look great...for your age". So glad we had this fun weekend together and thanks for not giving me covid :)

  2. Oh nooooooo! I hope you feel better soon. And it's a shame you had to miss your nephew's wedding. Stupid Covid.
Glamping for me, for sure. Sleeping in a tent is to be avoided at all costs. And, I think you would have to be at altitude for about a week to get acclimated. I certainly hope no one actually said "You look great for your age" to you! It's good you were there to represent us old folks- yes, there are older runners out there!

    1. It really drove home the point that there just aren't many women our age who still run. Kind of sad, really!

  3. Well, if you felt old... I would feel like a grandma lol

I used to love camping... in a tent. Nope, I'm all for the comforts of a hotel bed.

Oh no about COVID but glad it happened before camp. Hope Deborah stays healthy!!

Rest up. Boo on missing the wedding!!!

  4. I don't even want to jinx myself and tell you I've avoided Covid. My sister had it and mentioned the extreme fatigue. Hope you are feeling better soon. A co-worker of mine (who is 22) said her mom wasn't feeling well and then she said "she's 55 so at the age where everything goes wrong". Um, what? I don't remember struggling with altitude in Park City. Maybe I blocked it out.

    1. I've never had issues with altitude until this trip. It was tough!

  5. What a shame that you'll miss your nephew's wedding! I'm sure you will be back up and running soon.

I can relate about looking for your own food instead of eating at the camp all the time.
One thing I wanted to ask: I noticed on one of your (or Deborah's) photos that the name tags had "she/her" and "he/his" on them. Is that to help people to address you with the right gender?

    1. Gender identification is a big movement in the US right now. Here's a really good article on the subject: https://www.npr.org/2021/06/02/996319297/gender-identity-pronouns-expression-guide-lgbtq

  6. I'm sorry about COVID & the missed wedding. I haven't done much this week either due to being burned out (test negative for COVID), but I'll still be posting. I do hope to run tomorrow . . .

It takes a while to acclimate to altitude. More than a weekend!

Shame on Brooks for not having more older runners! Or maybe the older runners just didn't come?

    1. Why shame on Brooks? I don't think the lack of older runners has anything to do with them. In general, there are few older runners.

  7. I am so sorry that you have Covid and the missed wedding too. I had been careful, boosted, etc. but got it this January. The fatigue definitely kicked my butt for several weeks. I hope for a good recovery for you.

I just turned 60 and I hear that phrase/compliment (?) a good bit-"you look good for your age." I appreciate that they mean it sincerely, but I would like it without the qualifier. I just smile and say thank you. Grrr. It is a running goal of mine to run as long as I can which is one reasons I do post my running pics on social media. I would like to show others that we can continue to run, even if it means modifying our goals and runs. In my run club we have other runners in their 60s and at least one in his 70s. Ok end of my soap box. lol

    1. That's my soapbox too--and I share my runs and workouts for the same reason as you! There aren't a lot of us 'seasoned' runners, so I think it's really important that we all find each other!

  8. Well that's a bummer on the Covid. It definitely caught me by surprise, but I'm thankful my symptoms were pretty mild (a nasty gunky nose and sinus pain every time I tried bending over).

    1. I have a little of that too but the fatigue is what is kicking my butt.

  9. That's my idea of camp. And camping. So sorry you brought home an unwanted souvenir. Any book recommendations?

  10. So I really like camping. Mr PugRunner does not, and A would rather go with his friends. Covid is a terrible souvenir to bring home and I am sorry about that.

I can't even imagine the altitude. There is no way I would have been able to do it, especially coming from Florida.

    1. You never know! It's really flat here too. This is actually the first time I had issues with altitude.

  11. I hope you are feeling better! What a bummer that you missed your nephew's wedding. I remember you talking about your plans to go when we had lunch.

    1. I had some major FOMO on Friday night when people started sending me photos. I'm starting to turn the corner, but still not the best.

  12. I'm so sorry you got Covid and had to miss your nephew's wedding :(

That camping meme is definitely much more my style! I know how much I have struggled with altitude when skiing in Park City so I can imagine how tough running was.

  13. I'm so sorry to hear that you test positive for Covid, but at this point I don't think it's a matter of if we get it, but when we get it. Just happy that you have a mild case (soooo sorry you missed your nephew's wedding).

With my job as a trainer, I pretty much live in comfy clothes. :-)
