Meanwhile, let's wrap up the week in the snow globe!
Running
With the upcoming race, I planned on some easy paced runs. I don't formally taper before a half marathon, but I don't push it on my runs either. The snow kind of forced me to slow down, which was actually kind of nice. Both my runs on Tuesday and Wednesday were cold but the wind was light and I really enjoyed them. This was winter running at its finest. On Wednesday, I ran at the pond. There were very few people there, only walkers, but I saw a guy wipe out. I'm not sure what he slipped on because the path was pretty clear, but as I approached him I saw it happen. He tried valiantly to stay upright but could not get his legs underneath him. I stopped and he said he was ok, but he looked a little shaken up. Having fallen before, I know how much it hurts. I didn't laugh, even though he looked funny because been there, done that and Karma is a meany.
CrossFit
I only did one session again this week, opting out of Monday because I was wiped out after Sunday's long run. Sammy Jo made me work extra hard, combining strength and conditioning for one kickass session. I was ready for those hills of Birmingham!

Apparently I do deadlifts with my eyes closed. Maybe it was to shut out the pain of 145# x5 reps. |

These ring pull-ups are deceptively hard. |
Instead of CrossFit on Monday, I did a FiveParksYoga video called Hour of Power. What was I thinking? I won't lie, it was excellent, but it was hard! So I guess I got some conditioning in with my yoga. On Wednesday after my run, I did her quick post-workout stretch. I've been enjoying getting back to yoga and my INKnBURN ambassadors continue to have a pose of the week. Last week's Wild Thing pose (a variation of plank) was featured on INKnBURN's Instagram page!

This week's pose was twisted chair. |
I received the most excellent news this week! I have been selected to be a Zooma National Ambassador! I'm excited and honored to represent this empowering women's race series. This year's races are in Austin, TX, Lake Geneva, WI, Cape Cod, MA, and Amelia Island, FL. I'll be running the Zooma Great Lakes Half Marathon in September! Come join me and run the beautiful area of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. If you want to sign up, you can save 10% by using my code: WENDY2018

Welcome to the Weekly Wrap, hosted by Holly and me. This is the place for women fitness bloggers to share their workouts and recaps with other like-minded bloggers. The rules can be found above under the Weekly Wrap tab. Please don't link and leave! Be sure to comment on both the hosts' posts and link back to us. Even better, comment on at least 3 other linkers' posts. The linkup closes on Wednesday and we do have late linkers, so check back later this week and comment on 3 more. Let's grow our community. Have a wonderful week!
I like your bright colored clothes as you run through your snow globe! It's very balmy and rainy here today and our snow is melting, however I am afraid of slipping on hidden ice somewhere and ending up like the man you saw on your run! Congrats on becoming a Zooma ambassador!
ReplyDeleteThe snow isn’t so bad for running, but the freeze thaw cycle makes for some slippery conditions! I’m ready for spring too!
DeleteCongrats on the ambassadorship! And kudos on the ring pull ups. I don't know if I could even do one! I'm back to working out after my cold and hit my goal pace for my long run yesterday so all around I'm happy with that. As for the weather....I'm just ready for spring!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you’re recovering nicely from your cold! And yes, bring on spring!
DeleteHmmmm, a good thing that happened for me? The three times I ran outside this week (in the cold temps and quick-sand-like snow), felt good. I had forgotten what that kind of snow feels like (and so did my hips), but not much slipping, NO falling, and I didn't even feel very cold. That said, I'm still most eager for winter to be done.
ReplyDeleteI haven’t minded the snow as much as the cold!
DeleteIt certainly was a snow globe. I did my long run on the mill Friday and then went outside Saturday. Congrats on the Ambassadorship!
ReplyDeleteIt’s been pretty, though!
DeleteCongratulations on Zooma! We are having a grey winter -- ice and rain but no snow. I have to be careful what I wish for, but I sort of hope we do get some snow!
ReplyDeleteThe snow is nice when it’s fresh, but it can get pretty ugly! I’m ready for spring.
DeleteGreat week Wendy!! I’ve enjoyed seeing your pictures from Mercedes! How fun for you and Holly to run together again! I am just thankful I made it through my training runs and pageant week with my two daughters! I can breathe a huge sigh of relief! Hope you have another great week!
ReplyDeleteIt’s really a great race. The weather did me in, thought! So humid!
DeleteThe Annapolis Zooma was my first half ever about 10 years ago. It's a great running city. I would love to do one of their other races in Wisconsin or Amelia Island someday. Congrats on being an ambassador! We had not snow but tons of rain. I hope we get at least one nice snow day instead of just ice
ReplyDeleteI’m so happy that Zooma was moved back to Lake Geneva. I’m looking forward to it. You should join us!
DeleteCongratulations on the Zooma ambassadorship!! That's really awesome! I'm glad that guy was okay. I've slipped on the ice too and that's no fun. Great job getting out there with the snow and I'm glad you were able to make it to Birmingham! Something good that happened this week? Well, I didn't get hit by a car. LOL! Oh wait, I got invited to join an international honor society at school - that's definitely good! :)
ReplyDeleteI’m glad you didn’t get hit by a car! But even better, congrats on that honor society invite!
DeleteSo glad you were able to make it there for the race! Theres no way I would have been able to get anywhere if we got that much snow. Congrats on being a Zooma Ambassador!
ReplyDeleteChicago does well with snow. Mayors have lost elections because of poor snow management!
DeleteReally happy for you that you made your race! The Zooma ambassadorship will be great for you - you should run the Austin one...I'll go cheer you on. :)
ReplyDeleteI’d love to do the Austin race but I think I’m going to stick closer to home for this one.
DeleteI have to say thanks since you've mentioned Five Parks Yoga Before. I'm always looking for more routines to do, and so far, I like her style and videos. I did her hip stretching last week and it hurt so good.
ReplyDeleteI like her a lot and I will be doing some recovery with her tomorrow!
DeleteWhat a snow globe indeed! We had icy weather here and we went for a walk Sunday and it was a little treacherous. Being 26 weeks pregnant, I haven't been running on the ice but that means I haven't had a run in a while! I miss getting out for runs. Is it spring yet?
ReplyDeleteI am ready for spring! I don't mind the snow but now we'll be in that thaw/freeze cycle--makes for some icy condiitons!
DeleteI would say that I'm jealous of your snow, but I'd better be care that I don't jinx myself. I suppose at this point I'd rather have an almost snow-free winter and just get on with an early spring.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you and Holly had a great time and a fun race!
Thanks for the linkup!
The bad part of the snow is that it has to melt and that makes things messy and icy!
DeleteCongrats on the Zooma ambassadorship! Sounds like a great series. So cool you and Holly got together for another race! Looking forward to reading your race recap!
ReplyDeleteWe had such a fun weekend!
DeleteI did hear about Chicago snow...well at least it's pretty! LOL. Falling/slipping on the ice is always one of my biggest fears. I'm glad you made it to your race, and congrats on ZOOMA!
ReplyDeleteAfter that humidity in Alabama, I actually was glad to come home to my snow globe!
DeleteSnow without the freezing cold and wind can be really fun to run in! Beautiful pics. And congrats on the Zooma ambassadorship!
ReplyDeleteAs long as it isn't bitterly cold, I don't mind the snow at all!
DeleteCongrats on being named a ZOOMA Ambassador! I was a ZOOMA Ambassador for the Cape Cod race for a couple of years. Loved that race! I was still dealing with the flu, so I'm ready to get back to the norm this week.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to be a part of the ZOOMA organization!
DeleteI love a good wallop of snow! It was a fun week with a fun snow day. So glad you got out for your race.
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying the snow--I hope it doesn't get crazy icy now.
DeleteI did Zoma Napa a couple of years ago and it was amazing. I’m hoping to somehow figure out making it to Hyatt lost Pines this year!
ReplyDeleteOh, I"d love to run at Napa. Any excuse to have wine..
DeleteI was so happy that you were able to fly out of Chicago on Friday! I cannot believe the amount of snow that you guys have received lately - crazy!
ReplyDeleteIt snowed over the weekend too! We have about 20 inches on the ground. And it's going to start to melt now.
DeleteCongrats on your ZOOMA Ambassadorship. And very glad you got out of Dodge! Right about now I'd like to be sick somewhere warm -- my sister just got back from a well deserved vacation to Mexico.
ReplyDeleteActually, really hoping to feel better because it's supposed to warm up in these parts in a few days.
I can't decide if the weather I left was worse than the weather in Bham. Yes it was warm but oh my gosh was it humid.
DeleteI've tripped over thin air and fallen on clear, dry sidewalk...not laughing at that guy either. I've actually only fallen on ice once (at the end of my own driveway, of course) - I guess the hazardous conditions force me to pay better attention?
ReplyDeleteOh, I fall over nothing. It's ridiculous. But the way the guy fell right in front of me was kind of odd.
DeleteYou’re so committed with running - even in the snow! Don’t think I could do it... Congrats on becoming a Zooma ambassador- going to see what date is the race in Fl. I saw your photos with Holly - looks like you had a good race!
ReplyDeleteSure you could do it! Running is always an adventure, right?
DeleteWeather here is wet and damp and humid. Typical Charleston. It is unseasonably hot though with temps in the 70s (just looking at all the snow you guys get makes me cold).
ReplyDeleteChair pose is HARD! Twisted chair is hard too... my quads always scream at me in either of those at yoga classes.
I kind of liked coming home to my snow globe after that humidity!
DeleteCongrats on Zooma! I had a nice snowy run last week but had an awesome treadmill run last night!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I could put treadmill and awesome in the same sentence! glad you had a good one!
DeleteCongratulations on your new ambassadorship! Those races always sound really cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Maybe you'll run one?
DeleteI hope you were able to get to the race without problems! And congrats on the Zooma Ambassador announcement. I did their 10k in Annapolis last year and really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI did one of their halfs a few years ago and it was a great experience! I'm glad they are moving it back to Wisconsin, tho.
DeleteI'm so glad you got to the race!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on ZOOMA! I hope you love it!
Sounds like another fabulous week. Can't wait to read all about your race!
I'm so glad I got there too!
DeleteI'm really glad that you did make it out for your race! Looking forward to reading your recap!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm glad too!
DeleteCongratulations on becoming. Zooma ambassador!
ReplyDeleteI have to say those ring pull ups look really hard! I'm trying to work on my upper body strength, I know right now I'd struggle to do one of those.
The ring pull-ups are really hard! There's no sugar coating it. But they are so effective.
DeleteCongratulations, Wendy, on your ambassadorship! I'm still trying to find my running (and lifting, and getting-up-ridiculously-early) mojo. I guess it will eventually return. :/
ReplyDeleteI hope your mojo returns! I'm not so sure about getting up early, but I do think getting outside and moving really feels good.
DeleteUnfortunately, I have to get up ridiculously early in order to work out.....
DeleteCongrats on the ambassadorship! Those ring pull-ups look hard but fun also - a good upper body burn!
ReplyDeleteHoping to burn off some of that back fat!
DeleteWow! That ring pull up photo looks awesome. I'm glad you were able to travel. The snow here is different than Midwest snow (less humidity/ice) so our airport never cancels flights. (Plus, I think we only have one or two runways to maintain!) When I lived in Columbus I was always worried about cancelations. Nerve-wracking!
ReplyDeleteThis was such a big snow and OHare is so busy, it's hard to keep up. They do a good job of getting back on track, tho.
DeleteCongrats on the ambassadorship! Way too much snow everywhere!!
ReplyDeleteWe do have a lot of snow! It's warming up so it's going to disappear now.
DeleteI really wish we would stick to straight up snow globe here instead of flip flopping in between snow/ice/rain. I'd take a foot of snow over the rain we had yesterday. Congrats on your Zooma ambassadorship!
ReplyDeleteWe're going to get some of that rain/ice here. Ugh. Why can't we just keep the snow for a while?
DeleteThat shot of you running on the snow is amazing! All your runs and workouts are always so motivating to me! I'm glad you made it to the half marathon. I hope you guys had a great race. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I do enjoy my snowy runs, as long as it isn't bitterly cold.
DeleteI'm so glad you recommended Five Parks Yoga. I've tried a few routines now and really like her. Congrats on Zooma. I've always wanted to do one of their races. However, I assumed they had more locations than what you listed. Something good? I was able enjoy the weekend with a dear friend.
ReplyDeleteIt was a wonderful weekend, wasn't it? When can we do it again?
DeleteCongratulations on the Zooma Ambassadorship! I really wish they'd have some races on the west coast. I'd love to join in.
ReplyDeleteYou could come to the Midwest!
DeleteWow its amazing news. Congrats on the Zooma National Ambassadorship. keep doing your hard work dear.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteCongratulations on your Zooma Ambassadorship!! Well deserved lady! And that photo of you doing the ring pull-ups is phenomenal. So glad you managed to make it to the race with Holly! I will definitely be back for that race recap! Hope you have a great week! Shathiso from www.thegaboronerunner.com
ReplyDeleteThank you! Looks like you had a good race--loved your recap!
DeleteWe're back to our 100% humidity here in Charleston even though the temps are still only in the 60s. I'm kind of jealous of your snow globe! :-)
ReplyDeleteThat humidity was ridiculous! You know it's bad when coming back to the cold feels good!
DeleteI’m so glad that the snow didn’t prevent you from getting down to Birmingham for the race. I’m looking forward to reading your race recap!
ReplyDeleteMe too! I'm so grateful I was able to go and run!
DeleteWe have been hit hard this winter with snow too! I have been sticking to my treadmill, so I admire you getting out there!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I just can't do the treadmill! It's going to be icy this week, so I may have to break down and do that.
DeleteChicago was dumped on- but it looks so pretty! I love running in the snow, just not the ice...
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the Zooma ambassadorship - I have heard great things about the Lake Geneva race! Have a great time!
Right there with you--the snow is just fine. Keep the ice away.
DeleteOh gosh, falling in the slippery cold is the worst. I actually busted in the house earlier today, so I know I'd be a mess in the snow and ice!
ReplyDeleteIt's not fun, that's for sure! I hope you are ok!
DeleteI've wiped out more times than I care to admit and once the pain goes away, I do laugh...
ReplyDeleteI did an hour of yoga with Five Parks Yoga on Sunday. It was great but tough. She knows her stuff!
ReplyDeleteI really like her videos!
DeleteIt was great to see you got out of Chicago for the race with Holly! Love that Inknburn top and congrats on the Zooma race ambassadorship!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad my plans weren't cancelled! Now on to the Zooma races!
DeleteI’m glad you were able to safely make it to the race! It’s hard to plan anything on the winter!!! Can’t wait to hear about the race 😊 And your InkBurn tops are all so unique and cool. Congrats on the Zooma ambassadorship!
ReplyDeleteI'd like a few more of the long sleeved tops. I love the colors too, especially in the gray winter weather.
DeleteLOL I love your headline - whenever I run in snow I tell my husband that it is like running in a snowglobe. Spring is here...that means spring weather has to come soon too, right?
