Coffee Talk

Disclaimer: This post contains an affiliate link.

Wow, didn't July just fly by? And I unintentionally made a little poem...

Let's catch up over coffee! What are you having? The hubs brought me some Colectivo Co-Optiva, which is my favorite blend. With a scoop of GLG collagen and a splash of half and half, it's like heaven in a coffee mug.

What would you tell me over coffee? And can you stand one more Little Miss meme? I do love them.

If we were having coffee... I'd tell you that my local pool, where I've been doing all that pool running, is closed for the month of August for 'maintenance'. A whole month? Do you really think they've got a month's worth of maintenance to do? I hope they fix the heater in the pool because the water has been really cold. While I could look for other options, I'm taking the month off pool running.

If we were having coffee... I'd tell you how exhausted I was the week after I came back from Alabama. I knew that we skied A LOT. But I guess I didn't realize how much until I tried to run the week after. My legs were just so tired. I was a little concerned about it, but now I feel more like myself again.

If we were having coffee... I'd share that I found the strangest thing on the top of Gibraltar Rock last weekend--there were little pieces of blue tissue paper scattered all over! I couldn't figure it out. I mentioned to a hiker who was also at the top and he said: "I guess it's a boy". Ohhhh...someone did a gender reveal up there? Couldn't they have at least cleaned it up? I sure hope this trend passes soon.

If we were having coffee... I'd do a little mama brag and tell you about my youngest son's rugby tournament last weekend! He and a bunch of his UW teammates paired up with some of the players from the University of Minnesota to travel to upstate New York for the Can-Am Rugby Tournament! They called themselves the Lumberjacks--there's a big rivalry between the 2 teams when they play for Paul Bunyan's axe every year--and had special jerseys made up in a lumberjack theme. The team, with my son as scrum half, made it all the way to the championship game! They lost to a team from New Jersey who were so much bigger. But the scrappy Lumberjacks held their own and it bodes well for the teams going into the fall season. I'm so proud of him and his teammates!

That's my boy with the ball!

If we were having coffee... I'd share that I'm really excited to be heading to Brooks Run Happy camp in a couple of weeks with Deborah! We're traveling to Park City, Utah for a weekend that will be packed with running and camp shenanigans. It's wonderful that Brooks provides this opportunity for all the team members and I look forward to spending the weekend with Deborah and making new connections!

What would you tell me over coffee? Have you had to adjust your workouts because of a facility closure? Have you ever been to a gender reveal? Is anyone else going to camp this summer?

I'm linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date and with the ladies of Fit Five Friday:  DarleneMichelleReneeJenn, and Zenaida.

  3. Gender reveals weren't a thing back when my friends were having kids. No grandkids yet...

Congrats to your son... and he was in my state!!!

Have fun in Utah... I may go to a one day Brooks event in Sept. In NYC.

    1. Brooks is hosting an event here in September! I'm planning on that as well.

  4. The place where I used to swim also used to close for 2 weeks in August (until they closed permanently).

I figured out the blue pieces of paper immediately. But I agree -- on both counts -- cleaning up & why this is even a thing. But of course I've never had kids, so what do I know?

    1. I've had kids and I ask the same thing. It's fine if you don't make a mess...

  5. Yeah, the gender reveal celebrations have really gotten out of control. All the confetti or tissue...and balloons that get released to float to infinity. Your meme is spot-on, LOL.

  6. When my son was born I started dreaming of going to sporting events (for some reason I was imagining him playing baseball.) Hahahahaha... both my kids hate sports (sigh.) So I can only imagine how much fun it must be to see your son playing rugby. That's a cool story about them making it to the championships!
I can't wait to hear ALL ABOUT the Brooks camp! Take lots of pictures! It sounds like it's going to be amazing.

  7. That is such a great photo of your son in action! You know what a rugby fan I am!

When (and why?) did the gender reveal become such a thing?! It's annoying that they couldn't at least clean up afterwards.

I'm already having such FOMO over the Brooks camp! I'm disappointed that I won't get a chance to see you :( Have so much fun!

  8. You are going to have the best time at camp. I have seen gender reveals, but not like they are now. More of a "hey, lets' put blue or pink coloring in a cupcake and see who catches on." Whatever makes people happy, I guess.

  10. I understand that post active vacation exhaustion! We were in Alaska last week and I've been dragging this week. (It was stunning, as expected!) Happy to be home drinking my own coffee again - Kaka'ako caramel today. I've never been to a gender reveal, but I've seen pictures of plenty. Camp sounds like great fun!

    1. I'm finally feeling more like myself. That was the most exhausted I've been after a vacation. Seriously jealous of your Alaskan getaway!

  11. I just booked a weekend at a hotel that says the pool is closed -- not that we'd have time to spend in it, but I wonder if they adjusted the rates to take into account the loss of that amenity?
    Huge congrats to your son.
You and Deborah are going to have a blast! Brooks Run Camp! Park City! Other cool runners! Amazing!

    1. How odd that the pool is closed in the summer! I'm sure the rates didn't change...

  12. I agree, that photo of your son in action is epic! The facial expression, the strong legs, everything.

Gender reveals haven't taken on yet over here in Europe... but then it may just be a question of time, unfortunately. We do have Baby Showers now, but I'm always to "busy" to attend one, I find them so tedious.

We're going to travel to Germany next weekend to see Kai's mum. I'm looking forward to it. Enjoy the Brooks Run Camp!

    1. Hopefully that gender reveal trend will wane before it takes hold in Europe! Enjoy your getaway. Will you run in Germany?

    2. Yes! I've registered for a very relaxed marathon next Sunday. Kai will be doing the half. It should be fun!

  13. Omg so many things close here for “summer” or “maintenance” but THE POOL? Come on!
Glad you’ve recovered from your trip!
The gender reveal parties do irk me a lot, especially when people leave such messes behind. Also? Maybe it’s just me but why do we NEED to proclaim the gender? You’re having a baby, a tiny human, is that not enough to be happy about? And what about the people who are told it’s a boy, do they whole reveal party, baby shower, etc and then the baby comes out a girl? (on the flip side I have a friend who was having a Julia and it came out a Jude – true story, he’s 18 now :D )
Rugby is such an amazing sport! Well done to your son and the team!
So cool about the Brooks camp!!

  14. You're going to have so much fun a camp! Have you been to Park City? It's gorgeous there and I miss it!

I wonder if the pool finishes maintenance up quicker than expected if they'll open it up earlier?

  15. Sometimes I feel like I need a vacation from a vacation. The Brooks Run Camp sounds like it will be fun! I know they're having their one day events in Chicago and I am planning to go. I really do not get the deal with gender reveal parties. But I don't have kids so there is that. Another reason to have a party, right? :-)

  16. Aww, that sucks that of all the times they decided to do pool maintenance, they had to do it in August. :[ I hope it gets fixed though!

I really hope the gender reveal trend stops as well (or at the least, that people who do them would use common sense/be considerate -- so much litter and so many fires/injuries have been caused by them).

I hope you have fun in Utah!
