Coffee Talk

Let's catch up over coffee! What are you having? I'm enjoying a cup of Starbucks Veranda Blend with a scoop of GLG collagen and a splash of half and half. What's new in your world?

If we were having coffee... I'd tell you that we had a big month of birthdays here--the hubs and both boys--but that we didn't do much celebrating on the actual days. With the boys being grown and flown, it's much harder to coordinate time together. Mamas, you feel me on this?

If we were having coffee... I'd tell you that the work struggles continue. Last week, I attended a webinar titled "Schedule Optimization in Primary Care" which basically is yet another attempt to get us to see more patients. Earlier this week, I received an email telling me that after 10 years of having my visits coded for me, I will have to do my own billing. No worries, there's a webinar for that! And yesterday, when I started my day, I couldn't connect my laptop to the wi-fi. 15 patients on my schedule? Too bad, so sad. Oh, yes, IT made me reboot my computer 6 times before opening a ticket. They made me a low priority too. Maybe they'd sense the urgency if I told them I had to watch the billing webinar.

If we were having coffee... I'd share with you that since I had Covid last week, I had to miss my nephew's wedding. Fortunately, the ceremony was live-streamed from the church. Oh, but it was a Catholic mass! It was a good thing I had nowhere to go. I did have major FOMO later when family sent me photos from the reception!

If we were having coffee... I'd tell you that last week, I got in my car and it smelled really bad. At first, I thought a mouse got in my car and died--it's happened before--but I couldn't find anything. Then I found the culprit: a rotten tomato under the driver's seat! It must have fallen out of the bag from the farmer's market we went to a few weeks ago. Ick.

If we were having coffee... I'd ask what you were planning for the upcoming long weekend. We're going up to the lake. The weather looks to be good, but the water is already cold! I'm hoping to get in one last ride on my pretty pink ski.

What would you tell me over coffee? Does your work have webinars for everything? Have you ever had a mysterious odor in your car? What are your plans for the weekend?

I'm linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date and with the ladies of Fit Five Friday:  DarleneMichelleReneeJenn, and Zenaida.

  1. Ha! That Seinfeld episode was a good one! With my working from home (Covid) and then returning to the office, I had to reboot several times. My first two days back, our main IT guy was out (how NOT convenient), so someone else tried to stand-in, and made things worse. After a few days of trouble-shooting, I think my computer is back to normal, but it was a major pain.

  2. Have fun at the lake! I thought you grew a bunch of tomatoes. Did you buy some special ones? Sorry that medicine and business are clashing. It totally sucks.

  3. oh that tomato had to be awful! LOL. I did go to a catholic wedding mass once and yes, it sure was super long. Sorry you had to miss the wedding :(. Doing your own billing sounds like a nightmare!

  4. Ha ha, your tomato story reminds me of a time when my daughter was little. I kept noticing a strange and horrible odor everywhere I went. Finally I emptied my diaper bag and there was a rotten clementine in there- I guess I had put it in for a snack at the park one day and forgot all about it. I couldn't get the smell out of the bag and eventually had to throw it away. Glad yours was a tomato and not a dead mouse!
Sorry about your work struggles- it really does sound terrible. Every once in a while we'll have some sort of online training, but it's not often.
    Have fun at the lake!!!

  6. Our friends went to Thailand last month and brought us some coffee. It is good but SO strong! After just a cup, I was spouting all kinds of wisdom, so we're calling it our Buddha coffee ;)
It's too hot for coffee today. We are under an excessive heat warning through the weekend (it was 80 at 5:00 this morning) so the plan is to stay inside as much as possible. We are heading to Hawaii on Tuesday for the company's 50th anniversary celebration so we're excited about that.

  7. Oh yes the webinars for everything...I feel you on that one. I can't believe they've got you doing your own billing!? I'm sorry the work struggles continue :(

Enjoy your time at the lake!

  8. I train online everyday!!! I hate it... so impersonal and so many tech issues interfere. But it does keep me at home..

I love strong coffee - aka Starbucks French Roast with a splash of Peppermint mocha creamer.

Enjoy your lake time... summer is way too short.

  9. Well, I had a not mysterious odor from my cat letting loose in there. He was sick, so what can you do? Of course that's a long time ago and you wouldn't smell it now, but it took a long time for it to go away.

We have no plans. My mom actually wanted me to come down for the day. My sister will be there, although she's not going to eat with her, but I just had to tell her I can't, which kind of crushed her. I basically spent a week there in August with all the aide comings & goings.

  10. Ugh, webinars!
When I used to work for mega-corp-global bank, we had webinars for everything. And it was always followed by a test for which you needed to get minimum points to pass.
All employees who hadn't done the webinars by a specific deadline were blacklisted. Such a pain!
How do you bill your time you're doing your billing?!

    1. I will let you know how the billing works once I view the webinar, lol! But I think the billing is all bundled into the patient visits.

  11. I'm sorry your job is being so awful. What a way to drive out awesome employees and providers. That makes me sad.

I don't know if we have plans. The boys headed south to try to watch the shuttle launch from the beach. I stayed home. I wasn't down for a long drive and a full day.

  12. LOL, I've been to one full Catholic mass wedding. It wasn't too bad, but there's a reason I go to our church's 8 am service -- it's over by 8:40 at the latest. ;-)

Ugh on the mandatory webinars. My work had the stupidest training/testing modules our secretaries had to go through -- it was even "gamified" which made it more insulting.

    1. I just finished my annual mandatory education modules and as much as they try to make them interesting, um, nope, just nope.

  13. I've been struggling to write a comment using my laptop - this message comes up, "We're sorry, but you do not gave access to this page" 🤣 Using my mobile and it seems to be working! My smell in the car was similar to Judy's- cat pee! Took a long time to go away. Have kept all card doors closed since! Sorry to hear you've had so many new layers of admin placed in you at work :-(
