Coffee Talk

Let's catch up over coffee! What are you having? This month, I'm having a cup of Colectivo Ethiopia. My hubs gifted me 2 bags of Colectivo for my birthday. It's my favorite and I've been enjoying it with my usual scoop of GLG collagen and a splash of half and half. No PSL for me. I'm sorry but I'm not a fan.

What would you tell me over coffee?

If we were having coffee... I'd tell you that my oldest son has bought a house! Actually, it's a 2 flat, which is a house with an apartment upstairs. It's near his current apartment in the city, in an up-and-coming neighborhood. We are proud and excited for him, but also a little nervous. It's a big responsibility! He's very handy, which will be a good thing if he's going to be a landlord.

If we were having coffee... I'd whine about my ongoing love/hate relationship with my job. My actual job, caring for children? Love. Working for a large medical group? Hate. I mean, come on, we keep running out of paper towels to dry our hands and the vendor said there is "a shortage". Ridiculous. Have you noticed that that seems to be the excuse for everything? And why does everyone else everywhere have paper towels?

If we were having coffee... I'd tell you that I finally found someone to clean my house and is she ever a gem! One of the moms of my patients is a realtor and she recommended her. She was here a few weeks ago and spent almost 6 hours cleaning. My house was sparkling. I'll be having her once a month and I could not be happier!

But--if we were having coffee... I'd also tell you that I have to figure out what to do with Cocoa while my house is being cleaned. She loved our previous cleaning lady, but she was cleaning our home when we first got Cocoa so I think she thought Maria was part of the family. Cocoa doesn't care much for outsiders. The first time the new cleaning lady came, Cocoa was at the groomer. It's too soon for that this time.

"I've got a bone and I'm not afraid to use it.."

If we were having coffee... I'd tell you that I am looking forward to my upcoming sister trip to California! We're going to Santa Barbara! I've never been to this part of California, so I'm really excited. I have an entire week to spend with her and soak up some California sunshine. I can't wait!

What would you tell me over coffee? Are you a PSL fan? Have you been affected by 'supply chain issues'? What do you think I should do with Cocoa when the cleaning lady comes? Are you doing any traveling this fall?

I'm linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date and with the ladies of Fit Five Friday:  DarleneMichelleReneeJenn, and Zenaida.

  1. Santa Barbara is beautiful! You will love it! Maybe Cocoa will warm up to the new cleaning lady after an hour or so?? I used to cage our Bichons until they got so old they'd just lay on their pillows when the cleaners were here. Now I don't have cleaners so I don't have to worry about Ozzy. Congrats to your son! That's wonderful!

    1. We're debating caging Cocoa when she comes--she'll bark a lot but at least she won't bother her!

  2. The excuse for everything is supply chain! I am over it at this point yes. I hope you have a fantastic time with your sister in Santa Barbara. It's a beautiful area to explore. Glad you found a new cleaning lady that works well for you. No ideas for Cocoa. I just have to figure out how to get rid of my husband when ours comes LOL

  3. I'm a pumpkin everything fan. esp sweets.

I have a cleaning lady... wish I could afford her to come more often so I never have to clean lol

My cats are afraid of her so they hide in the basement.

  4. Congrats to your son!

I'm glad you found a new cleaning lady - the what to do with the pup challenge is tough and one of the reasons we don't have cleaners at the moment. Any way to keep Cocoa in a separate room until she warms up to her?

Your Santa Barbara trip sounds wonderful!

  5. Believe it or not, with all my ranting and raving about pumpkin season, I don't drink the PSLs. Too much sugar for me (among other reasons.). I like the thought of them though!
I love that meme!!! Yes, I'm getting soooo tired of hearing about supply chain issues. I think in your specific example it's BS. I mean you're right- everyone else has paper towels.
Congratulations to your son! That's a big step. Sounds like he's totally up to this challenge though!

  7. You are going to LOVE Santa Barbara! Les worked for a company there about a decade ago and would often spend the night (it's 75 miles from us.) I'd join him when I could. There are so many neat shops and restaurants. I highly recommend Pascucci Italian restaurant and Three Pickles deli. And get some authentic Mexican food. Of course there's lot of great seafood, too. And there are a lot of great towns nearby. Great running, too - you can't go wrong running near the ocean!

  8. Isn't it great to see our "kids" buy their own houses? Our oldest is on her third...talk about feeling old, LOL (but also proud). I have to wonder about the paper towels as well. One of my new duties is overseeing all the office supplies, and commercial paper towels (for the dispensers in the restrooms) are often "out of stock" when I attempt to order them. Where are they????

  9. Santa Barbara is very pretty, but it was decades ago that we were there! The last time we were in CA was for brother's youngest's Bar Mitzvah . . .. 8 years ago!

Well, my husband was 25 when we got married, but we did start with a Condo. Luckily my husband is handy because I am not.

Is there a room that doesn't really need to be cleaned that you can shut Cocoa into? We only had a cleaning woman once (it was actually a team). I still had all 4 animals at the time, I think! We've had plenty of contractors in even with Bandit, but aside from barking at them, he's usually pretty good. It's hard when they're not -- which he wasn't initially, obviously!

    1. The hubs suggested I put her in the basement, but then she'll scratch at the door. Still thinking about my options.

  10. Congrats to your son!
So here's a funny story about paper towels. It drives me nuts that the custodial staff will not refill the paper towels in our High school bathroom ( the one closest to my room), but they will fill them in the Middle school bathroom. I asked about this and apparently the custodians are sick of picking up towels off the floor so they took them all out! I agree, students should but the towels in the trash but why punish the rest of us..lol
    And poor Cocoa..lol

  11. A really good cleaning person is so hard to find! So nice that you have one. Once a month for 6 hours sounds perfect.
Nowadays, I do my own cleaning. We share the load - Kai does the floors, the windows and the garbage and I do the rest. It does include some nagging on my part, though...a cleaning lady would be so much easier.

  12. Congrats to your son! That's awesome + definitely a good thing that he's handy! I'm glad you were able to find an awesome cleaning person too!

Sorry to hear about your job. I love the actual patient care part as well but not so much the entitlement of some of them + a lot of management-type decisions. ._.

Have fun in Santa Brabara!! :]

  13. Haha, that meme! So true. Congrats to your son! If I remember correctly you said he lives in Lincoln Square? That is crazy about the paper towels! We have plenty in our school.

  14. Congrats to your son! it sounds similar to what my son did, but he just AirBnB's the other unit.

Ugh on the tedious aspects of work and the "supply chain" issues. I haven't noticed anything at work, but there still seems to be random shortages at the grocery store. This week the shelves were bare where the Belvita cookies should have been. Was there a big sale? A recall? A short supply on yellow cardboard?

  15. Cocoa's face! I love that sweet baby. I hate PSLs, though. Im a fan of peppermint mocha. I haven't seen paper towels in demand, but there are some things that are harder to get. I guess that's the new normal. The pugs are very upset when the housekeepers come. I usually have to sit with them in the office (if I'm home), or crate them in there (if I'm out), and then I clean the office myself. I think they just want to give love, but they get underfoot.
