Let's catch up over coffee! What are you having? Currently, I'm drinking Philz Coffee Ecstatic blend with my usual scoop of GLG collagen and a splash of half and half. It's just delicious!
What would you tell me over coffee?
Speaking of Philz Ecstatic coffee... I'd tell you that when the hubs brought the bag home for me, I noticed the name of the blend was handwritten as 'Estatic'. When pointed out the misspelling to my hubs, he insisted that was the name of the coffee--but he looked it up on the website, and yep, it's 'Ecstatic'. I added the "c" just to make myself feel better.
If we were having coffee... I'd tell you that even though I've shared my intent to retire next year, I do waiver on a daily basis. I love so many of my little patients. A few weeks ago, I was at Trader Joe's and ran into one of my families. The mom and I chatted briefly and I continued to do my shopping. I was in the frozen food section when I heard a little voice call my name. My young friend came running down the aisle to tell me he was playing t-ball! But then there was that awful 12-year-old who refused to put his phone down when I asked him to and was incredibly rude to me the entire visit, talking over me or giving ridiculous answers to my questions, and trying to egg on his siblings. His mother said nothing.
If we were having coffee... I'd share that last weekend while we were at the lake, Cocoa got into the garbage. She ate just about everything: the discarded chicken bones, an old stick of butter, chewed the corn off the cobs, and god knows what else. My hubs found it during the night and made her sleep in the garage. Amazingly, she didn't suffer any GI distress. Nor did she learn her lesson. When the hubs let her back in the house, she immediately headed back to the garbage can.
If we were having coffee... you might notice that I've changed my hair color. I made the decision to start growing out my gray. I'm so tired of touching up my roots every 3-4 weeks and wanted to give it a try. My colorist did a great job--after a 3 hour process, I now have ash blond highlights in my hair, which I just love! So far, the gray is blending in nicely. I'll go back in July to have the process repeated. My thought is that I can always cover up the gray if I don't like it as it grows out. Oh, and I got it cut too!
Speaking of getting older, if we were having coffee... I'd share that when we were in Madison for my youngest's graduation a few weeks ago, while we were walking, a homeless man bumped into me with his ginormous backpack. He yelled at me: "watch out grandma!" and those three words cut me to the core. I really need to get over myself...
What would you tell me over coffee? Are you a spelling zealot? If you work, what's one of the best things about your job? Any dog and garbage stories to share with me? When it comes to aging and hair, are you team color or team gray?
I'm linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date and with the ladies of Fit Five Friday: Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn, and Zenaida.
All the best with the grow-out. I made that attempt about 15 years ago but when my neighbor exclaimed "you look SOoo much older!" it was game over. Sigh. Oh poor Cocoa. Glad she didn't have any distress.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the blond--I may just stick with it!
DeleteI grew out my grey in my forties and found that I wasn't quite ready yet. I did it again in my late fifties and knew then that it was right for me. It was time to go lighter and I just don't see myself as a blond. My original hair color was almost black. Now seventy, I'm quite comfortable with my hair. The color that is. I can't do anything with styling it!
ReplyDeleteBecause I wear my hair short the transition was painless. My stylist lowlighted it (it seems like that's what yours is doing) to avoid my having a "skunk line." Two haircuts later I was done. No going back now. It's such a relief not always to be checking those roots. To say nothing of the savings.
Lucky Cocoa that she did not get sick getting into all that junk. Lucky for all of you.
I'm hoping for a gradual change. And I will keep highlighting for a while.
DeleteI'm with Marcia... us dark haired ladies having a harder time too... that racoon look. So No to grey... hair dye forever!
ReplyDeleteMy cat eats everything - paper, rubber bands, qtips... never gets sick...
Nope, nope, nope. Loving this blonde color!
Deleteand you look good as a blonde
DeleteOh poor Coco! I guess she just needed to treat herself a bit! Good luck w the hair grow out. I don't have too many gray hairs yet but I am team color and highlight for now. I like the cut you have!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm so glad I made the change!
DeleteI think your hair looks GREAT! I guess I would say I'm team gray- I saw my first gray hair when I was 30 but it's going so slowly. From a distance it still looks like my hair is brown, but up close you can see my "silver" streaks. I assume the gray will eventually take over.
ReplyDeleteHa ha, poor Coco- she had to sleep in the garage! I love that photo of her.
I won't be retiring for many years... but every time I think about changing to a different job, I know I would miss my clients- most of them. Hopefully your good patients outweigh the bad- but I still think you'll be happy to retire!
Thank you! I'm enjoying the new color and willing to let nature take its course.
DeleteYour hair looks great! I don't have the patience for color maintenance so I've just let me gray streak be.
ReplyDeletePoor Cocoa, I'm glad she didn't have any distress. I swear my dog would eat anything in front of him if given half the chance!
I do like my job, though I'd be lying if I didn't say there are days where retirement sounds pretty good. Reality is short of winning the lottery there's no chance of retirement until my youngest gets through college lol.
Now that we've crossed that bridge, retirement feels more realistic. Stay tuned.
DeleteOn the contrary my cats is very spoiled and eats what, where and when he wants. For instance he doesn't like to eat on the ground but only on the sink.
ReplyDeleteI retired 5 years ago and I feel very good even if I miss the service in the Coast Guard.
Cocoa is very spoiled, yet she eats garbage. i do not understand dogs, lol
DeleteI just love the picture of Cocoa, that face! And your stories of her. So thank you.
ReplyDeleteFor me, I am a natural blonde and I just get low highlights to balance out the grays, which we do not try to cover, now at 61 years old. So my gray blends with my blonde which I am ok with. I typically only get a bit of coloring twice a year so very little maintenance. You look great!
But I had an aging moment just this week from a complete stranger. I was picking up donuts to celebrate a co-worker's last day of work, with her retiring, which I mentioned to the donut shop lady. She had gray/white hair and said to me out of the blue, "so when are you retiring? You look like you are close, similar to me." What, really?! Do I look retirement age already? I just did not think so and had no quick wit response to her. Ugh. It has stayed with me all week. I just need to let that go. But that being said, I will retire next year, at the end of April. I will have a side hustle to help pay for my health insurance. My husband and I will do pet sitting and walking. He is 15 years older than I am so we want to enjoy some years of good health together. Happy Friday! :)
Thank you so much for this! you are only a year ahead of me and it's nice to hear your perspective. Even though we both feel ok about going gray, comments about aging still sting!
Deleteoh geesh...I accidentally left the kitchen garbage can out (usually it's under the sink, inside the cabinet) one day. I went back to work, and came home to a major mess. It's a good thing we love out sweet little dogs so much! That 12-year old...I have so much respect for the teachers who put up with brats like that on the daily (all day long, nonetheless). I had a college-aged guy, checking ID's at a bar last fall, tell me "you're alright, Ma'am" when I couldn't dig out my ID fast enough. The (oldest) daughter thought it was a lot more funny than I did.
ReplyDeleteDon't ever call me ma'am....
DeleteYou know what color my hair is, and I'm a brunette so it doesn't blend. Would I like to look younger? Of course. Do I have better things to do with my time? For me the answer is yes. It's a personal decision. I do think it gets to a point where it's not really making you look young anymore, but maybe young-er.
ReplyDeleteWell, you could be a grandma. Maybe it's a compliment, LOL!
Oh, Cocoa. Bandit has always had a really sensitive GI tract. He doesn't get into things often, thank goodness!
Not a compliment. Ever. The only one who can call me grandma would be grandkids. Of which I have none!
Deleteagree!!!
DeleteOh poor Coco! Although she probably thought she was having fun..lol. Glad she didn't get sick. Your hair looks great. I noticed the new color on IG the other day! Oh and I work with 12 year olds every day, so I totally get it!
ReplyDeleteThis 12 year old was exceptional and not in the best way, lol
DeleteI admire your hair choice. I am at the point where I'm sick of work, trying to keep up with hair color, and ignoring the subtle ageism at work.
ReplyDeleteI completely understand what you mean. We'll see how I feel once the gray/white takes over, lol. But so far so good.
DeleteYour hair looks great. If I'm going to let the gray take over, I just want to go in and do the whole thing silver. However, that's an expensive and long process, so...
ReplyDeleteSome kids are awesome, and some kids are the worst. Mostly, I blame their parents. I don't know what's wrong with people these days.
Poor Cocoa. She looks so sad that she can't have her garbage :( I'm glad she's ok.
So I used to be pretty militant about spelling and grammar, and then I read a book called "Wordslut," which changed my perspective a little. Highly recommend. "Estatic" would have made me cringe on the inside, though.
I am going to look for that book!
Deletegreat decision with your hair! I am team... pink hahaha! but honestly, my stylist uses vegan plant color and these days it's a bit of blond, pink and purple. my hair is very grown out grey and I love it. Sometimes I do see an old pic of my black hair though and I miss it, but I was so done with touching it up all the dang time.
ReplyDeletepoor cocoa. glad she didn't have GI distress though. sometimes animals are just so dumb! our little Rudyy (the stepson's kitty who is lodging with us) kept eating pieces of the gym floor covering (black plasticy foamy tiles) and then dramatically throwing up the pieces. Like 15 times in a row. Geez cat are you that hungry?? (he just really likes to chew on things - Ron's work headset cable is toast as of last Friday).
you know, if you can retire, I am sure you will find a way to spend your time outside of work. I am still 12 years away. 12 years. Universe Goddess Help Me.
Maybe if I have gray hair, the kids will be more respectful to me at work? Ha!
Deletehahaha, I would've added the "c" there too. :P
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks great! I'm all for not having to do a ton of upkeep!
I am (sadly, haha) a long way from retirement but feel like I would waffle a lot too. I really like most of my patients but some of them (and the bureaucracy/admin decision-making) make me want to retire early and do something else with my life. :[
I'm glad Cocoa is okay!
I think all of us in medicine are feeling this way. I don't know how it is in your area, but we are seeing a lot of providers retiring. In peds, all those kids are flowing into our practice. I bet i see 2-3 new patients a day right now. It's not good.
DeleteI love your hair! Ouch on what that man said to you. So rude! I cannot wait to retire but I know I still have years to go. But I know those years will go by quickly.
ReplyDeleteBe sure to make the most of them!
