I've been training for the Sarasota Half Marathon. And my workouts have been going well. What's not been going well? Sit back while I bare my soul...
Where's the beef: Since the holidays, I've strayed from my "no beef" rule more than once-- and I've been paying for it. I do think that beef causes inflammation in my GI tract, and so it isn't just one and one for me when I eat beef. Nope, a whole cascade (literally) of problems begins. I won't get graphic, but let's just say that it's a good thing I've been taking my runs indoors 2x/week for this training cycle. Having access to a bathroom has been pretty nice. Let's just say I'm uncomfortable and mad at myself.

You're not the boss of me: My oldest son has been trying to rev up the mama drama machine. I got his report card for last semester and it was just terrible. He is just so determined to prove that I can't tell him what to do. When his father and I offered to pay him $$$ for good grades, he told me "I don't need money". Who doesn't need money? Ok, message received. I've decided that I'm done pushing him. I'm going to let him fail and figure it out. Because, after all, his bad grades really are his problem. Once he grows up, if that happens, he'll get it together. Right?
Jailhouse Rock: I started watching Orange is the New Black. Besides being hooked on this show already, some of the music is pretty awesome too. I just added some new songs to my running playlist. Do you do this--hear a song on a TV show and think, that would be a great running song? BTW, I'm only on season one, so don't spoil it for me. This show is really edgy. I think I may need to go to confession after watching it. Or get a mind eraser. Wow.
No money, mo problems: I've been spending way too much money this month. Not that I have it to spend. My husband has been out of work and yet, I just can't seem to stop myself. The sales have been incredible. And it isn't just running clothes. Last week Anthropologie had 40% off the sale prices and I scored a cute sweater dress for $45 (original price $148). The Clymb had 20% off their already great prices, and I scored some Aventura gear. I had to stop myself. BTW, if you don't know about the Clymb, head on over and check it out! Lots of great deals on casual and athletic clothing. Use this link: http://vnlink.co/Sp4V5I4 and we'll both get $10 credit!
HIghway to hell: I lost it on the way to work this week. I decided to change lanes to get around a slower car and guess what? She sped up. Rode alongside another car so I couldn't get around her. If I got too close to her, she hit the brakes. This went on for about 4 miles of my already painful 10 mile commute to work. After a few minutes of her doing this, I started yelling at her. I may even have let a few curse words fly. You know the one that rhymes with truck? Not that she could hear me, but it made me feel better. She finally turned at a light. Who plays games like this? And why did I let her get under my skin?
Onward and upward, right? I guess I do feel better!
What do you have to confess this month?
I'm a newbie to your blog. Love it! My runfession is that I love getting up in the middle of the night after I nurse my son to sit on the couch in front of the fire and eat snacks in SILENCE. I just put back a rice crispy square and two glasses of milk.
ReplyDeleteNot weird at all! I used to work 3-12, and I loved coming home to the silence. I used to sit in the dark and eat a bowl of cereal.
DeleteI have to tell you about the time a lady pulled out in front of me doing like 15 mph so I sped up and went around her before we merged into 1 lane. She got so mad she tailgated me all the way to the next stop light then proceeded to get out and approach my car. Because I am a freaking genius I stopped at the light well behind the car in front of me so as soon as I saw her get out of her car, I could creep up and make her walk more. As soon as she got to my window the light was green so I flipped her off of course and sped away. WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE??? Geez I guess I had to get that out.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you with your son, I think you are left with no other choice but the tough love. Thanks for linking up! I've got the linky tool working this month so come on over and link!
That whole driving thing! And yes, I gave that lady the finger when she turned...not proud to admit it tho.
DeleteParenting teens is not for the faint of heart. You will get through it and it will all work out in the end.
ReplyDeleteI am trying to stay away from all the great sales right now. Especially Athleta, which sadly moved into town a couple of yrs ago. Very dangerous!
Don't mess with Wendy on the road! ; )
Behind the wheel or on the race course!
DeleteThis totally sounds like something I'd write (the driving situation, teen stuff, music, etc). And, I haven't watched "Orange is the New Black" (yet), but everyone else I seem to know has seen it. It may be our new Netflix marathon.... :-)
ReplyDeleteLast year it was Breaking Bad, this year it's Orange is the New Black...
DeleteOrange is the New Black is my favorite. The night before Chicago, I sat in my hotel room and watched 5 episodes. I got through it pretty quickly and just want the new season to start.
ReplyDeleteThis was a great blog!!
I'm really getting into it!
DeleteThe highway to hell is a daily occurrence for me. I scream at the top of my lungs like a lunatic. And yes, I make note of any song I hear that's "runnable" on my phone so I won't forget the name. I'm always on the lookout for the perfect running song. Teens! - just breathe - my middle son is 17 today - just breathe - and is so IN LOVE - just breathe - and now his grades are suffering - just breathe - We will live through it.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's love with my son, just apathy...yep, learning how do a lot of breathing these days!
DeleteOrange is the New Black is so good!!! I'm kind of jealous that you're watching it for the first time. :) I had to unsubscribe from all the online shopping emails I used to get because it was too tempting. i do LOVE anthropologie, too, but seriously the only time I can shop there is sale time!! ;)
ReplyDeleteThe last anthro sale was amazing! I limited myself to the one dress. Willpower, right?
DeleteWell, I'm actually eating MORE beef since I need to up my iron intake; I never realized that I rarely eat red meat until this was brought up - ha! Also, we've just gotten caught up on House of Cards; it was our nightly "indulgence," but now we have to wait until Feb. 27 when the new season comes out! GAH! I hope you have a great weekend, Wendy!
ReplyDeleteSomeone else recommended House of Cards...that is next on my list!
DeleteThe coward pedal!!! OMG, I'm crying from laughing!!
ReplyDeleteI hate it when I eat something that I know is going to upset my stomach. Why do we do that to ourselves?
These were great runfessions!
I need to listen to mellow music when I drive or something....
DeleteI hear ya with the spending money. I recently had so much work done to my car that I cannot buy any fitness gear or running related products for awhile:( Wel I guess it's better than paying for a car payment each mth. -L
ReplyDeleteI guess....
DeleteI tried to start watching Orange is the new black and I lost interest after 1 season. Sorry about the teenager drama!
ReplyDeleteIt's all part of having a teenager...
DeleteI'm not ready to confess...yet ;)
ReplyDeleteLiving with a 16 and 18 year old I've been spared the teen drama so far. Maybe the fact that I never experienced the terrible 2s should have been a sign. #happymom
I was spared the terrible 2s as well--thought I was going to get off scot-free! You just never know...
Deleteohh the years of teenage drama, yup- don't miss it! My hubby (we are empty nesters) actually looked around a couple of weekends ago and said, no one wants to hang out with us anymore! HA! I think that means we did our job right! They have stuff to do! I haven't watched this Orange is the new Black yet- I am thinking about taking a couple more sick days next week......:) Wednesday sounds like a good start date, shhhhh!
ReplyDeleteI won't tell a soul! Enjoy!
DeleteI am so addicted to Orange is the New Black, although I do have to say that I almost didn't watch after the first two episodes because I was kind of turned off by all of the lesbian love going on (not that I care, but for some reason hard to watch)...but I gave it a chance and pushed past and now I can't stop watching!
ReplyDeleteAt first, I wasn't so sure either...but now, yes, I'm hooked!
DeleteI had to reply to this comment because I felt the exact same way when I started watching that show. For some reason those scenes creeped me out, but then again, I may have been equally creeped out watching heterosexual couples having explicit sex right there on screen. Must they? For me, I almost stopped watching it after the first scene, but tried to be cool about it and kept watching. After a while, those scenes would still throw me but I guess I just got used to the shock factor.
DeleteI've found an alternative to spending money well, since I don't have any these days...when I want to shop, I go to Clothes mentor which is a higher end consignment shop. This totally helps me leave the store guilt free. And I only go once every few months. Truly sorry to hear about your son...teens sure know how to push our buttons don't they! I haven't watched that show...well, because I would be terrified of one of my kids seeing it, ROFL!!!
ReplyDeleteSeriously! We watched Breaking Bad last year and it was edgy too but not sexualized like OITNB. My sons aren't interested in it and after seeing the first couple of episodes, I'm glad. But my sister tells me it moves away from that as the show goes on.
