8 Rockin' Songs for Your Running Pleasure

I've got 99 problems, but a running tune ain't one.

In an effort to ramp up my motivation, I've been updating my running playlist. Out with the old, stale songs and in with the new! There's nothing like a fresh mix of tunes to make your long runs feel fun again. Not being much of a pop music fan makes finding high energy songs a bit of a challenge. But I think you'll agree that my eclectic mix is interesting, to say the least.

It's like having a party on the run!

Wish I Knew You: The Revivalists
I realize that this song has gone somewhat mainstream but when I first heard it on our local alt-rock station, I knew it was a winner.

Life Itself -Glass Animals
A song about struggling, I just loved the music and it's fun to run to.

The

The Man-The Killers
Empowering, even though I'm not a man. "Nothing can break me down..." And it's got a good cadence. "USDA certified lean..."

Nobody Speak-DJ Shadow feat. Run the Jewels
Warning: This is not for everyone (there's some really salty language) but man, it's a cool song. When I asked my sons if they've ever heard of Run the Jewels, they just about fell over in disbelief. It was a total mom win and when you've got teens/young adults, you take those moments and savor them. Even if it means you've totally ruined a band for them.

High Sir Sly
I'm not advocating for drug use, but instead just think about that runner's high while you're grooving to this song. "Feels good for the first time in a long time now..." This band has another song that I'm road testing, &Run.

Chase Me-Danger Mouse ft Run the Jewels and Big Boi
I heard this song when I was watching that very stylistic movie Baby Driver and I had to have it. No surprise that it features that cool band Run the Jewels. "That's why I'm outta here, baby...."

The next 2 songs are brand new to my playlist--I haven't road tested them yet, but I like the sound, the lyrics, and the cadence. We'll see if they stand the test of time.

Happy Hour-Weezer
This is Weezer? I was pretty shocked to hear their "new sound" but I like this easy, laid-back groove for a long run. "Let's chill out on this island, sucking on a lime and a coconut..."

Live in the Moment-Portugal the Man
Oooooh, lalalalala, let's live in the moment, like Sunday morning... Plus it's got a great beat to run to.

Do you run with music? Have you heard of any of these songs? What are some new tunes that you are grooving to? What is your favorite genre to run to? Do you choose songs for the lyrics or the music?

I'm linking up with Janelle, Kim, and Steff for Tunes Tuesday as well as Marcia, Erika, and Patti for Tuesdays on the Run and Debbie, Lora, and Rachel for Coaches' Corner! Have a great week!

  3. Honestly, I have not heard of any of these (or the bands who perform them) LOL I guess I'm more of a classic rock kind of gal...though I do have some new wave, rap, show tunes, pop, and disco (no judging) thrown into my mix.

  13. "Never Ending Circles" by Chvrches. Lyrics relevant to runners: "Here's to taking what you came for, here's to running off the pain." and "It's time to save your neck And I will try and find my feet and go".

    2. I am thinking about it. My neighbor is running it, so I might have a free ride out to Schaumburg (unless I volunteer to drive that is!). It may be a last minute decision. :)
