Coffee Talk

It's the start of a new month--yikes, December!--which means that it's time for our monthly coffee date! I'm totally procrastinating on holiday prep, so let's sit down and chat. What would you like in your coffee? A little peppermint schnapps, perhaps? 'Tis the season, right?

If we were having coffee, I'd talk about the upcoming holidays and how I've done no shopping or preparation so far. I have no family photos for a Christmas card. Now that my oldest son is working and making decent money, he's taking a page from my book and is buying what he wants when he wants. So what to give him for Christmas?

If we were having coffee, I'd tell you that of course, I've been shopping for myself. Is that wrong? Being a loyal ambassador, I took advantage of Inknburn's Black Friday 30% special and finally bought the denim tights I've been eyeballing. I did buy a new Apple laptop, which was not on sale but was much needed. Is this all wrong? Would it be wrong for me to skip putting up my tree this weekend and getting that new laptop all set up?

Not only did I test out my new tights at CrossFit yesterday, I also wore them for a run. Love, and I mean LOVE them!
If we were having coffee, I'd talk about last weekend's half marathon and how well it went. I'd tell you how sad I am to be missing my girls' weekend in Panama City Beach but.... that I was completely satisfied with last Saturday's race. I truly believe things happen for a reason and that this was the race I needed to run. Right? Keep reminding me of this all weekend every time I feel the FOMO.

If we were having coffee, I'd share with you about my ongoing tendonitis....in my elbow! Yes, I have golfer's elbow. I don't even golf. I'm not sure how I got it. My rheumatologist injected it a while ago and I was pain-free for about a month. Until it came back with a vengeance. She refused to inject me again, telling me I needed to go to PT. Who has time for that? Recently, the CrossFit box where I work out hired a PT. I went to see her and her magic fingers did me right. I'm still sore, but my arm feels so much better. Guess my doctor knew what she was talking about after all...

Speaking of my doctor, she is the medical honoree at next weekend's Jingle Bell Run for Arthritis. Maybe this will get me into the holiday spirit! The Jingle Bell Run is a national race with events all over the country. My son, his girlfriend, and I will be running. Local peeps, it isn't too late to join us! You have until December 5 to join us on Dr Arnold's team, the Jolly Joints. Just click on the link on the side of the blog. If you don't want to run, but want to donate to our team, you can also access my fundraising page through the link. By the way, the race is on December 9, which is the one year anniversary of my diagnosis with RA.

What would you tell me over coffee? Have you started preparing for the holidays? Did you get any Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals? Do you shop for yourself during the holidays? Are you running in any holiday runs?

I'm linking up with Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for the Friday Five 2.0 and with Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date.

  1. OH MY WORD @ "You mean scotch?" -- I snorted out loud! That is super stinky about your elbow, though. I hope that you get it worked out fast, because PT is kind of mehhhhhh.

I did NOT do any Black Friday shopping. I kind of wished that I had; you look pretty damn sharp in that Inknburn apparel!

  2. I absolutely love my PT. I'm finally running again pretty much pain-free and I honestly think anyone who runs a ton should see a PT every now and then to manage the wear and tear on your body. Of course, I didn't figure this out until something big had happened to me :(

  3. That PT meme literally made me laugh out loud :) Glad she could help with your elbow. I'm loving your denim tights and now sorry I missed the Inkburn deal.

  4. Just last night (finally!) I registered for the Des Moines Jingle Bell Run (the event is tomorrow). That's probably it for holiday races (like I have SO many options in my area LOL). I have FOMO as well for Panama City Beach...oh well. And, the bulk of Black Friday shopping is for myself because the kids only want gift cards these days....

    1. There are a lot of Santa races around here. I wasn't really up for one, especially a 5k at Soldier Field, but when my rheumatologist asked me to join, how could I say no?

  5. I don't think there is anything wrong with buying yourself some nice gifts too (saying this for both of us really :) ) Ooh a sore elbow is not good but at least it won't keep you from running right!? I can never get my kids to do a family photo in time for holiday cards. I often send out mine in January when things are calmer. Thanks for joining us for coffee

  6. I did plenty of damage on Cyber Monday. And the games have just begun!

I agree that things happen for a reason, but it's still okay to be sad/mad/insert emotion of choice. I have suffered no FOMO, though, stick a fork in me after 18 months of hard training I'm ready to be done.

I almost ran our Jingle Bell run, but the friend I was going to do it with is too busy being a social butterfly. I didn't feel like doing it on my own, although it was my last chance for a PR this year. :) I'll run with the Wineglass girls instead tomorrow.

Elbow tendinitis can come from a lot of odd things -- I first started suffering with it from kickboxing. Generally it's actually due to weak forearms/wrists. PT is never a bad idea, but I hear you on the time involved!

    1. Pretty sure mine didn't come from that--more than likely it's from swinging on the monkey bars and trying to do a pull up!

  7. I am pretty much decorated but WAY behind on shopping for gifts! As the years go on it does become increasingly more difficult to figure out what to buy people.

Your team name is great! Have fun at your jingle jog! Those are always so festive!

  8. Love, love, love those tights! I had to get a new computer too, though not an Apple and it was on sale. It’s been a while since my last new one and I was surprised at how easy it is to set them up now! So many of my settings, especially any related to Google and Chrome were all there (including passwords! Yay!).

I’m still dealing with my shoulder injury even after 4 weeks! It’s painful but it doesn’t interfere with my running so I’m not worrying about it too much. It is getting better but s-l-o-w-l-y

    1. I thought this elbow thing was getting better but a few weeks ago, I pushed the button to dispense laundry detergent and ZING there it was again.

  10. I've pretty much only bought things for myself recently. I'm in super selfish mode right now lol

  12. I knocked out a chunk of holiday gifts over the weekend but yes, there were somethings for me. which I have no guilt about. Ii told you what's pissing off that elbow. Glad the PT is working!

  13. Haha, your memes are so perfect in your post today! ;)

I'm long overdue for a new laptop. I don't want to pull the trigger because they're so darn expensive. But I've had my current MacBook Pro for years -- at least 6? -- and the motherboard is going. I'm just too cheap to actually buy one quite yet...

    1. That's exactly what's happening to my MacBook. As I prepare for the data migration, it is rebelling. I hope it can hold itself together for one more day...

  14. I don't do any Black Friday shopping, and I do limit my shopping starting around October so I can keep track of things I want and let people know. It does take restraint at times, but I know I need ideas for the season.

  15. My house is completely decorated - I will be home the entire month of December for the first time in 5 years. Les is traveling on business for 2 weeks (East Coast to Hawaii) which gives me the perfect opportunity to do some shopping and baking.

  18. There is an Arthritis run close to Harrisburg too, I'm trying to talk my son into doing the 5K with me... that might involve some donuts.

In my family, if we buy things for ourselves, we sell them to each other and count it as a gift.

  20. I bought myself a present on Cyber Monday, knowing that my parents would be sending me a check for my Christmas present...so really, I just shopped early for them. ;)

  21. Golfer's elbow? Is that the same as tennis elbow? lol Pretty sure I have that but I don't play tennis. I think it came from years of holding kids on that side and now with the grandkids being toddlers, it's really flaring back up. lol I'll have to look up PT for it - maybe it will help! Or maybe I just need to come to your box and see your magic PT. LOL

I didn't Black Friday or Cyber Monday and I am woefully behind in holiday shopping. *sigh*

    1. No, golfers elbow is medial epicondylitis and tennis is lateral--it's the location of the tendon...I'll be going back for more magic next week!

  22. PTs are seriously magic! I'm seeing one currently for my low back issues. I learned that I've been standing, sitting, walking, squatting, you name it all in a way that made my back hate me!

    1. I'd say that some PTs are magic! I've had good and bad experiences. I guess that's how it is with everything!

  23. I've definitely splurged on myself a bit this week while trying to find gifts for others. Im glad the PT was able to help with your elbow! Isn't it weird to experience a non-running injury? I feel like when something on my upper body hurts I tend to disregard it

  24. I have literally just bought two Christmas gifts thus far--both for my middle son, who was sitting right next to me and told me what to order. I am so behind on everything. Story of my life.

  25. Sometimes, you've gotta shop for yourself if you want certain things. I mean, we all deserve a gift sometimes. :)
I'm not really into the holiday spirit myself, so hoping to kick things into gear this weekend with a holiday movie or two. And, maybe checking out some holiday lights.

  26. I'm diving in to the holidays head first -- I put our tree up today b/c it was now or never. I'm not sure when I'll have time for shopping -- I need to get on that!

  27. I'm sorry to hear about your elbow! :[ Definitely not fun. I hope you recover soon and I'm glad that PT is helping!!

I'm super proud of myself for not buying anything on Cyber Monday! There was a lot of potential damage that could've been dealt to my wallet! x_x
