Runfessions: February

Hooray for the opening of the runfessional! Even though February is the shortest month, there's no shortage of runfessions (and some crossfitfessions) for me.

Do you runfess? Marcia opens the runfessional monthly and cleansing the soles never felt so good!

I runfess... I had so much guilt about skipping that race on the ice in Madison a few weeks ago. It wasn't the race so much, it was not getting to see my Badger. Although my back-up plan trail race was fun and a good introduction to the world of trail racing, I still wish I had gone up to Madison. I miss my boy!

He went snowboarding last Sunday. I asked for a picture and this is what he sent...
Boy moms, you get me, right?
I crossfitfess... that my coach nearly made me cry and it wasn't over a lift. We were finishing up a brutal bootcamp workout with a 50 calorie ride on the assault bike and I was struggling. I asked her to change the music to something 'faster' and when she sharply asked me what I wanted to listen to, I was at a loss. I mean, I'm pushing hard on the assault bike! Shouldn't she know? Never mind...

I runfess... that I've been slowly doing a purge of my wardrobe. Yep, I'm letting go of most of my InkNBurn tops, listing them on eBay. Digging deep into the cavern of my dresser, I've also found some Skirt Sports skirts. I'll be listing those as well.

I crossfitfess... As much as I love getting stronger and pushing my limits at the box, I do not like that the workouts are timed. I've said this before and I'll say it again: I know this is 'CrossFit' and that's how it is, but I'm all about good form and I feel that gets lost in the speedy workouts. I'm always pretty much DFL in all the WODs and I can live with that.

I runfess... I'm starting to get a little worried about my trail race. Yep, that little voice in my head that tells me I can't do it, that I bit off more than I can chew, it's that voice that has been talking to me again. I'm not concerned about the distance (25k or 15.6 miles). It's the Florida heat and humidity that's got me nervous. It's really hard to train for warm weather races in the middle of winter in Chicago. I've told myself that the goal is to enjoy the ride and cross the finish line. Let's not talk about the snakes...

What do you have to runfess? Any mom guilt? It never ends, you know. Have you ever been surprised so much by a response that it brought you to tears? Are you doing spring cleaning? How do you feel about 'timed' workouts? Do you overthink everything?

I'm linking up with Marcia for Runfessions and with Fridays with Fairytales and Fitness.

  1. Sitting in a sauna does wonders for heat acclimation....just saying. I've got SO many running skirts here that I never wear anymore. I should follow your lead and list them. Thanks for linking!

  2. Ooh, what size InkNBurn tops are you selling? I think I take a small .... I’m with you on timed workouts. If I had to AMRAP my workouts I’d be setting record lows! I have no doubt you will crush the trail race!

    1. They are all smalls. I'm going to update my eBay over the weekend.

  3. I am in a purging of my closet as well! It feels good to get stuff out that I don't use. I am selling on Poshmark but I guess I can look on ebay as well. I have no doubt you will be fine for your trail race. The snakes ugh I have nothing for that. Perhaps all the runners will scare them away! Are you doing that alone or meeting up w Hoho?

    1. No, just running alone. I couldn't recruit anyone to do it with me!

  4. Ummm...yes. As the mom of 3 "boys" I completely understand the photo. Looks like something one of mine would do.

I can't believe you're purging your Inknburn tops. They are so pretty!

Looking forward to reading your race recap for the Florida race. It sounds awesome to me!

    1. After my ambassadorship, I acquired quite a few tops. I'm in need of a purge.

  5. I need to do some purging! I usually try to do that as I am switching over my closet between seasons. The mom guilt has begun already and I know it will probably never end.

  6. Boy do I need to purge but lack of time to sell them. I've just been giving them away but till my drawers are FULL!!!

Can't wait for your Florida race. I love that area.

  7. I agree about the timed workouts. That's one of the reason I've stepped away from Body Pump for now. I enjoyed the upbeat music and that everything was to the beat, but I could definitely feel that my form was off sometimes because of the faster choreography.

  8. I feel the same way about speedy workouts, I always worry about hurting myself.

  9. I have never taken a cross fitting class. But I can imagine how people's form suffer if they are trying to quickly get their reps in during a time frame.

    1. I'm so busy trying to keep up with the class that I don't know if anyone else is struggling!

  10. The only "timed" workouts I have done are in Bodypump, when the rhythm gets very fast and we have to do stuff with the bar very quickly. I notice how I lose my form and I'm no longer doing the movement correctly. It's a shame because you can do a lot of damage that way.
Don't worry about your Florida race! I wouldn't race it, but just enjoy it instead.

    1. Damage, not to mention getting the most benefits from the workout!

  11. Although I don't do CrossFit, the timed aspect would annoy/frustrate me. I don't have the competitive drive a lot of people have, so I'd be one of the last finishers as well because I'd rather focus on form as opposed to quantity/speed, etc. I'm too paranoid about injury. Are there a lot of people that get injured due to that?

  12. A huge no on timed workouts, save the time goals for running! I never got around to putting my summer clothes away last fall, I just kind of crammed my winter clothes on top in the dresser so lol I'm ahead of the game on spring cleaning.

    1. I'm not one to sort my winter and summer wardrobes, so everything is always at my fingertips!

  13. I chuckled at your son's photo - I would have received the same.

I need to check out your INB listings!

  14. I hear ya! I was always DFL too because it was always about form and not getting injured! I would commonly face the wall so I couldn't see others or be in the very front to avoid competition.

    1. My coach tells me that it's not about competing but come on! Why take our times then? Maybe it's my runner mentality?

  15. Been doing some purging too -- when we don't like it, it's just clutter. It's the one thing I take away from Spark Joy as she's generally too intense for me.

    1. I don't know about Spark Joy and maybe I don't want to! LOL. I threw out more stuff today. It feels so good.

    2. That's Marie Kondo and her purge obsession wherein you apologize to your socks, etc.

  16. It's got to be hard being so far from your boy! No real mom guilt, but ours is facing a little punishment this weekend. Obviously, this makes us THE WORST but I am fairly sure we will all pull through.

I will have to do some purging when I start getting more out of the house. I've lost some weight and once I'm sure it's not coming back, I can start getting rid of larger sizes.

    1. I felt like we had to do a lot more punishing once the boys hit middle school. They get so darned sassy!

  17. I'm not much in favor of timed workouts either. I'm with you on good form.

I am very deep into Spring cleaning. Letting go (but also bringing in).

I think you'll do fine on the trails. Trail racing is so different from road racing - you've done enough of them to know that. So much more laid back. Just try not to let that competitiveness get you in trouble!

    1. That's the whole thing for me--I have to let time go and just enjoy the ride. I'll have to cover up my Garmin or something.

  18. I do overthink everything. I'm sure your trail race will go great! I liked crossfit when I tried it back after my first marathon but the whole speed thing was a little unnerving. I was worried about injuring myself during the workouts. Ultimately I decided to be an orangetheory girl instead cause I like lighter weights but more reps for running.

  19. Ahh the mom guilt... I'm sad to hear it never ends but I totally believe it too! It's like a daily thing for me - and sometimes over the silliest things. I'm all for a closet purge too! This week I'm actually having a Zyia Active party to update my wardrobe and I'm also planning to get rid of the things I don't ever wear. I hang on to clothes forever and sometimes they just NEED TO GO!
