Coffee Talk

Let's catch up over coffee! What will you be having? I'm drinking a cup of Key West Sunrise from Cuban Coffee Queen, thanks to my oldest, who just returned from a weekend in Key West. If we were having coffee, I'd tell you that I was touched that he thought of me! Actually, he sent me pictures throughout his trip, which was really nice.

The coffee is great. Of course, I'm having mine with a scoop of GLG collagen and a splash of half and half. Old habits die hard!

What would you tell me over coffee?

If we were having coffee... I'd have to whine about the weather. Seriously...we had so much rain and wind and cold in April. I don't ever remember an April like this. It's even lingering into May. Signs of spring are everywhere--I guess it happens no matter what the weather. Supposedly, it's going to get warm next week. REALLY WARM. Like the upper 80s. How does this even make sense?

If we were having coffee... I'd ask you what you were doing for Mother's Day. My sister is out of town, so we are having my mom and dad over, along with my father-in-law. My oldest is coming too. My youngest is trying to find someone to cover his shift at work. I'd love to see him too but he does have finals next week! I'm always so grateful that my boys are both nearby and that I get to see them fairly often.

If we were having coffee... I'd tell you that I am celebrating 10 years at my current employer. I received a certificate and a pin in the mail. Whoopee. It's a good place to work, as good as any other large medical organization, I guess. I'm still battling with them for pay equity. It's tough when you know they are hiring new grad NPs at the same salary as mine. I've been a nurse for a long time--all in pediatrics-- and medicine has really changed, not necessarily for the better. But in spite of all that, it's the honor of caring for people's children that has made it a very rewarding career.

If we were having coffee... I'd ask you what you've been watching. We finished Julia, which was wonderful! Right now we're alternating between 2 very heavy dramas: Ozark and Dopesick. Both are very intense and dark. I'm hoping to find some lighter fare after this.

What would you tell me over coffee? What are you doing for Mother's Day? What are you watching on TV?

I'm linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date and with the ladies of Fit Five Friday:  DarleneMichelleReneeJenn, and Zenaida.

  1. We were watching the second season of The Flight Attendant but after a handful of episodes, I still was not paying attention so we ditched it and went back to Selling Sunset, which has so much drama but the cool houses are fun. Ozark is alot for sure. Happy Mother's Day! Congrats on 10 years!

    1. I feel like that second season doesn't even make sense. So yeah, we didn't check it out.

  2. We watched a few episodes of Ozark but it just wasn't for us. It's very good, but I need uplifting shows, not dark ones!

Medicine absolutely is not the same, and not for the better either, unfortunately. I'm glad you still enjoy your work even though it's so difficult!

Yes, we'll be spending Mother's Day with my mom & some of my family. We were going to go out to eat, but after my sister came back from a barely there trip to FL with COVID (and her husband, too, but not their grown kids), I decided I didn't want to eat inside a restaurant on a holiday. I think my mother was the only one that actually wanted to . . .

  4. It's been cold and rainy but it always warms up when I leave on vacation lol

I've been watching some happy shows like Grey's Anatomy, Good doctor, Call the midwife (wait medical shows?), This is us.

Also finished Bridgerton and Guilded Age. Julia is on my list.

  5. We're half way through We Crashed (Apple+) and really enjoying it. Congrats on your 10 year anniversary - I cannot begin to imagine how challenging the health care profession is...especially these past few years. Hope you have a great Mother's Day!

  6. I know, your weather has been horrible. I hear all about it from my sister! She said it was getting up to 90 next week, but maybe it will "only" by upper 80s, ha ha. It will be quite a change for you.
Yes, you've probably seen medicine change a LOT. i'm sure your job has it's frustrations and rewarding moments as well. At least it's not boring! Nice job hanging in there with your current place for ten years- especially through the pandemic. They're lucky to have you!

    1. You are too kind! And yeah, I hope we don't get to the 90s. I'd be happy with 60s-70s!

  7. Until yesterday, I was watching Manifest and really enjoying it - have finished Seasons 1 and 2 but the third season hasn't yet been released on Netflix International so anxiously waiting for it.

Hope you have a great Mother's Day and that both your boys are able to make it!

  8. What's this with unequal pay? How come a newly graduated NP earns as much as you do with 10 years of experience on the job? That's outrageous. How can you escalate this?
Salary aside, I can see how your job is much more rewarding and fulfilling than a regular office job!

    1. I actually have more experience than that...but it doesn't seem to matter, am I right?

  9. Well done on your anniversary and for persisting amidst all the Covid etc. drama. We're watching The Great British Sewing Bee and Taskmaster at the moment, light and entertaining with a bit of thinking added in, mainly wondering how people are going to do things. Mother's Day has been and gone here - Matthew's mum was taken out by her two boys!

    1. We have The Great British Baking Show here, but not Sewing Bee...how interesting!

  10. Similar weather here, but our rain (yesterday and today) was pretty much MIA. I'm head-over-heels excited for next week, though! We've been watching Good Girls...another dark series that is really hard to watch, but too compelling to look away from.

  11. The weather here has been wacky too - and we're expecting rain today, all day tomorrow and then cold weather on Sunday. What a fun filled weekend, lol.
I keep hearing good things about Ozark so I may start watching that series soon

  12. I would want to talk about Collagen; as I've been reading about it and am wanting to purchase some...but so much out there. Been thinking about getting the gummies, because I don't want to mix the powder. Pull up a chair and I'll pour us a round.

  14. That coffee sounds delicious. I know this weather has been horrible this weekend. Today is my mom's and her mom( my nana) birthday and we went for lunch. I am hoping for no rain tmrw for Mother's day!

  15. I thought the same about the weather. Cold and then hot - no Spring weather. Congrats on 10 years! I am watching "The Golden Girls" and love it.

  16. Happy Mother's Day! I hope you have the best day. I'm sorry for your equity struggles. Our labor system is so broken in this country and it makes me sad. I know you are amazing at your job and you care about your patients so much.

    1. Thanks Jenn! It is so frustrating--my director, who evaluates me, isn't even a medical person and really doesn't have a clue about what I do.

  17. I just finished Ozark but we’re watching Queen of the South and that’s so intense. I balance it out with Downton Abbey.

  18. I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day!

That really sucks that they haven't increased your salary (I think it's the same with us too -- new hires make the same salary as the ones who've been there for a while. I'm still pretty new so it doesn't make too much of a difference but I think it'll definitely feel like a discrepancy years down the road). I hope they're able to make positive changes!
