Loving...and Not Loving

This week ended on loving a spontaneous road trip to my parents' place in Northern Wisconsin! I have some time off work this week. While I planned on a staycation to get things done at home aka declutter, the lure of cooler temperatures and serenity were too hard to pass up. I'm hoping to avoid a repeat of my foot injury. I promise not to drink wine and go kayaking.

While I'm not loving the clutter, it can wait for a rainy/snowy day. It's summer and the living is easy...

Loving: If you follow the blog regularly, you know that I ran this week! Twice! It may only be 8 miles on the Garmin, but my brain thought it was a PR. Who knew that a short distance could release those powerful endorphins? I'm like a junkie who needed a fix. It was like someone flipped a switch and turned on the lights. I felt like a new woman.
Not loving: My foot still hurts at times. It doesn't hurt when I run, but later on, after I've rested a while I can feel it. The excruciating pain I had after the injury is gone, though. Note to self: The kinetic chain is calling. You have to do your hip strengthening exercises.

On one of the runs, I stopped to do my playground strength training. That counts for something, right?

Scapular pull ups. Doesn't look like much, does it?
Loving: Everything lemon. This time of year, lemon tastes so refreshing! I went to the grocery store last week and they had a giant bin of Larabars for $1 each. Did you say Lemon Larabars? Did you even know they existed? Now I'm obsessed. They may replace my perpetual favorite, Lemon LunaBars.
Not loving: The lemons that life keeps handing me. Persistent PF. Bills. Worries about my aging parents and father-in-law. Work stuff. Teenagers. It's why I need to run. And why I'm running away to the north woods.

That is EXACTLY what I did. See how I did that?
Loving: I went to 2 yoga classes at the studio this week! I also did one session at home. I finally held galabasana, aka flying crow.
Not loving: I could not extend my upper leg into the full pose. My hamstrings are just too tight. Note to self: you have to do your hip strengthening exercises. Foam rolling might be helpful too.

This crow won't fly!

Loving: The pup is getting big and doesn't mind sleeping in her crate. I think she's a pretty smart little dog. She loves going on walks and does great on her leash. She loves ice cubes! She keeps us laughing with her antics. Most of the time.
Not loving: Even though she's "mostly" housetrained, there are still some occasional accidents. Or are they?! And she's a little skittish around people she doesn't know. I've resorted to bringing treats on our walks and having people bribe her with a treat before they pet her. While that seems to be helping, we're going to puppy preschool, after her "evaluation" next week. Yes, it's a thing.

Silently judging my chair pose.
Loving: I rode Venus de Miles on Saturday. With my sister. So fun! I made some new friends too.  I fell in love with my bike again. And how about this cute bike jersey from Moxie? Cycling clothing? Oh boy... anyhoo, I'll post the ride recap later this week.
Not loving: It was 88 degrees and 50% humidity, which translates to a "real feel" of 97. And our 25 mile ride ended up being 29 miles because we were sent the wrong way. By the local popo. Can you say sweaty? I felt kind of nauseated most of the afternoon.

I'm not sure how you Southerners do this. Yeah, I know I wrote all about beating the heat earlier this week. But it was tough. Which is why I'm escaping to Wisconsin.

My sister and me at Venus de Miles
What are you loving this week? Not loving?

I'm linking this post with Tricia and Holly for their Weekly Wrap and with Angela and Ilka for the Sunday Fitness and Food LinkUp! There are some great blogs to check out at both!

  1. Good for you! Typically, I don't mind the heat....but the past week has been miserable weather-wise. Fortunately, I've been inside for most of it, recovering. I did venture out for an early morning run yesterday and came home looking and feeling like I'd been dipped in a nasty pond. Then, I was talked into (without much coercion) to go to the pool and do an hour of pool walking. And some garden squats upon my return home (because it was threatening rain). But, this is Iowa, and I choose to live here LOL I hope you have a great little mini-vacay ;-)

    1. You picked a good week for a recovery week... :p It's going to be a lot cooler up north--I'm looking forward to some respite from the heat.

    1. In the lobby of the hospital where I work, there is a very colorful wall lighting display. I so want to do a pose there. But there are always people around...

  3. The weather was cray yesterday. First the heat and humidity, then the storms, then the humidity, then the STORMS.
I'm sorry that you are still dealing with so much, but I'm glad that you are able to get out there and get some peace. I hope that you continue to do so.

  5. It's wrong of me, but I always love when people who don't have to workout in stupid hot heat + humidity get a sample of it...just because I wonder if the rest of the country thinks we're exaggerating how awful it is. That said, I'm jealous of your escape to cooler temps - lucky!

  6. oh my gosh - I buy Lemon Larabars by the carton! They're so yummy...and I like squeezing fresh lemon juice on roasted veggies (and sauteed spinach) in the summer. Glad your foot is feeling better and you got a couple runs in this week!

  7. You know what? I always bring treats with me on walks. Walks are really great training opportunities! People always commented how well behaved Chester & Lola were . . . treats, people, treats.

My ankle still aches sometimes after a hard run. Not anything like your PF, but it's still very annoying that it still happens. Whaddya gonna do?

Nope, not gonna do any lemon bars. I named my blog for a reason!

How I need a vacation! You have NO idea.

  8. I always think Wisconsin is SO far away and then I remember it's not that far from where you are!

  9. Not loving the hiccups in training, but loving getting back to a routine after being away. :) But then...I feel like escaping again. :) I'm sorry about the PF, but it's nice that you were able to get two runs in.

  10. Umm...I'm so glad you chose a a few days in Wisconsin over DE-CLUTTERING! I am loving my bike too. I can't wait to hear about Venus de Miles. Like a junkie, I may do one (or two) more Sprint Tris. The world of cycling and triathlon clothing is a completely new black hole for me to be sucked into. So many cool things! Thanks for linking, Wendy. (The offer stands -- I say what I mean!)

  11. Sounds like you are turning lemons into lemonade - that really is a perfect cartoon! I've been loving my time at home with my son cooking dinner. I'm not loving going back to Miami this week - especially since I won't get to the beach this time either.

  13. Loving ...and not living is such a great way to sum up the current week. Sorry to hear your foot is still hurting. I hurt mine today during a run and hope it will not be too serious. Good luck at the puppy school - that should be fun!:)

  14. I'm right there with you on the heat!!! Ugh. Enough already. Can't we have a day that is not 95 with 95% humidity? No? Ok fine.
Love Moxie Cycling clothing and your top is no exception. Very cool :-)
I also really love what you did with the lemons. LOL!!! I run (and bike and swim) for all the same reasons!!! Have fun up north. I hope it's cool...

  15. I need to do some serious decluttering, but that is better left until winter when I am stuck inside. I love lemon too, so refreshing! I can't get enough of it.
so so so glad I don't live somewhere super humid, the 90s are bad enough without humidity! I visited Corpus Christi, TX in July once....never ever again!

  17. The race shirt at the tri both years was a Moxi cycling top. SO worth the price of admission right there! Yay for the North Woods. Glad to hear no shenanigans will be happening on the rocks though. ;). At RnRCHI they gave out iced lemon poppyseed poundcake Power Bars that were divine. And I can't find them to buy anywhere.

Wow! that is a very nice yoga post!! #totallyjelly !! Congratulations on your bike race!

I am loving the heat this week, and not loving the freezing cold temps inside the office, movie theaters, the grocery store... it is not ok to need a jacket inside when it's so hot outside!

  37. The humidity here outside DC has been horrible. We call them the three Hs: hazy, hot, and humid. Blech!
If you like lemon, you should check out Nature's Bakery Lemon bars. Think chunky whole grain fig newtons, but lemon. Yum! (Excellent on the bike, by the way)

  38. You should try dry needling for the PF!! I think it is working! I also make sure my feet don't ht the ground in the morning before I stretch and roll with an ice cold ball (it is AWESOME. I will write a review on it soon - much better than a golf ball). I also have been stretching my toes back and massaging my heel all throughout the day. Anyway... I am sending you healing vibes. Wisconsin sounds lovely in the summer. I visited my friend once in the fall and loved it! :)

    1. I may have to try dry needling--I'm getting desperate! I did try shockwave therapy once and it worked but I don't want to go back to that podiatrist--he sold me very expensive orthotics and they wrecked my big toe!

  39. Thanks so much for linking up with us! I totally hear you about the heat, it has been Hot, Hot, Hot here in Maine!! It was 88 degrees the day I did my long bike ride (55 miles) this week...ugh!! I have to say I would rather be on my bike in the heat, than running though. I'm so glad to hear you got in some running this week too :-) I'm sending positive vibes for your foot to heal up soon.
