Mizuno's new Breath Thermo technology claims to use "heat generating technology" to keep a runner warm throughout the run. I was, as comes naturally to me, skeptical. The shirt is really thin. My skepticism soon disappeared as I worked up a pretty good sweat on my first run wearing the shirt!
When I finished my run, I examined the shirt more closely. Inside the shirt are special fibers that are meant to generate heat and wick away moisture. Those fibers also make the shirt soft inside. The shirt was very comfortable.
I wore the shirt on a few more runs to test it out again. I wanted to see if it would maintain the warmth and comfort after washing. The Wave Crew did not disappoint. It was about 38F when I wore it this time, and I was warm, even without any extra layers.
I really really like this shirt and would buy another one. There is also a 1/4 zip option. While I liked the fit (it is meant to be a base layer), some might find it a bit snug. If you like your running clothes a little looser, I'd recommend sizing up. The shirt comes in a variety of colors.
Mizuno also sent me a pair of gloves to try. The Breath Thermo Warmalite Gloves also have the special weave. There is a touch screen forefinger on each glove, which I tested out multiple times while taking these pictures. Both gloves have pockets on the top of the hand, which are large enough to store a key or money. The stripes are reflective.
The Mizuno Breath Thermo technology is also available in socks, arm warmers, headbands, and hats. All the accessories come in a variety of colors. I'd like to try the socks for those brutally cold winter mornings.

What cold weather gear do you like? Gloves or mittens? Crew shirt or 1/4 zip?
I'm linking up with Marcia, Patti, and Erica for Tuesdays on the Run as well as Debbie, Rachel, Lora, and Susie for Coaches Corner and Nicole for Fit Fashionable Friday! Also with Best of the Blogs!
I'm a quarter zip girl, and I have a breathe thermo zip shirt, but it is more like a 1/8th zip (so I just get it stuck on my head. But I do like the shirt quite a bit!
ReplyDeleteI love this shirt. I may have to splurge for the 1/4 zip!
DeleteI am getting to review the same gear... I can't get over how warm the shirt is! I wore it again this morning and overheated as it was nearing 50 degrees. I'm so used to lots of layers and I'm always cold so this shirt has me excited about cold weather running!
ReplyDeleteMe too! I really like this shirt a lot. It's so comfy, too. Looking forward to your review!
DeleteI might have to try out the shirt. My base layers are just regular long sleeve shirts from Lulu Lemon and they're not made to keep me particularly warm.
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of cold weather shirts but none like this--those fibers make it comfy and warm!
DeleteMy favorite is glittens (gloves with a mitten that goes over it). I especially like the fingerless glittens -- I suppose that they're really half fingers. Somehow the tech tips rarely seem to work for me.
ReplyDeleteI like gloves with mitten hoods too. But these gloves were pretty warm without the hood!
DeleteEvery year my husband says he's gonna buy me warmer running clothes for Christmas and every year I tell him not to bother because i'm not going to be running in the winter anymore (it's my last winter race..yea right). Well, I may want to do a race in March so I guess that means I'll have to train in the winter again..lol. I'll have to show them these items!
ReplyDeleteI really like this shirt. A lot. I'm hoping they either go on sale or they give another discount code so I can buy another one.
DeleteGloves and half zip! Love these items. I like that you can get the warmth without the bulk!
ReplyDeleteAnd no layers needed!
DeleteI prefer a crew neck (actually a scoop neck is ideal) for a base layer. But I like a 1/4 zip for a top layer ;-) Those gloves look awesome!
ReplyDeleteI like the crew neck too! The gloves are great.
DeleteI love gloves that have pockets to fit a key! I used to have a pair like that but lost them a few years ago. Cold weather running gear is hard to find so its good to know you like this stuff!
ReplyDeleteYou could put all kinds of things in those glove pockets!
DeleteSuper cute! The one thing I can't stand about winter running is all the laundry. UGH. I don't mind running outside when it's cold as long as I'm all bundled up. But MAN. ALL THE LAUNDRY.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100%! So much laundry.
DeleteGood stuff! I agree with you their clothing runs small and the gloves I have are on the loose side as well. So weird.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to know what size to get!
DeleteNice!!
ReplyDeleteI am a crew neck girl for base layering and 1/4 for top layer.
I love UA cold gear.
I do need some new gloves-I think I want mittens though. When I wear gloves, my fingers always get cold ;(
I like the gloves that come with a mitten cover for those really cold days. I was surprised at how well these gloves kept my hands warm.
DeleteI love this shirt! I'd like one in another color. Hoping for a sale or a discount code.
ReplyDeleteGreat tip on sizing up...I don't like tight fitting clothing! It's a cute shirt, too!
ReplyDeleteI didn't mind the fit of this shirt--it kept me toasty warm!
DeleteI am loving both of the pieces as well. The shirt is so warm and really does wick the sweat away very well. The gloves are amazing too. Happy running
ReplyDeleteSo glad we got to try this stuff!
DeleteCute stuff! Love that the gloves have the touchscreen forefinger, since that is a must especially for me. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, there's nothing worse than having to take off gloves in the cold to access the phone!
DeleteI could run in a tshirt if I had gloves and an ear warmer :) I dig those Mizuno gloves. #bestofblogs
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on that!
DeleteMy Mizuno Breath Thermo running top is my favorite for winter speedwork because it's so light but keeps me warm. I even raced a 10-miler wearing it in 24-degree temps. I didn't need any other layers. Love this stuff!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I got to try it! I didn't realize so many people knew about it. Great technology.
DeleteSuch good gear! Thanks for linking up to Best of Blogs! Pinning for you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting! I didn't know which post to link up!
DeleteI hate to layer an I also hate to be cold so this sounds like something that is quite light and warm as well. I also really like the Mizuno logo I think it's pretty cool!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of layers either! This top is good on it's own, but will be a great baselayer for when it's bitter cold here.
DeleteI love Mizuno's gear, though I don't own nearly enough of it! The cold gear looks great on you, love the colors!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm loving the royal blue!
DeleteI already commented on FB, but I LOVE Mizuno BT gear. I have a shell, a 1/4 zip base layer, wind pants, and two pairs of arm sleeves. Love, love, love.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea about their gear until I tried this stuff, but I will be getting more...
DeleteI'm a Mizuno girl 100% when it comes to their sneakers, but I dont really own any of their clothes. I need to change that!
ReplyDeleteI don't own any Mizuno clothes but do have a pair of their running shoes. I like to wear something with wool to keep me warm. I like gloves and crew shirts. :-)
