Runfessions: Holiday Overload

The presents are unwrapped and the holiday hangover is real. What a month! Thank goodness for Runfessions. Marcia has opened up the runfessional and I'm ready to runfess. Let's get right to it!

When I was out for a run recently, I stopped for water at the park fieldhouse. There was a "Do Not Enter" sign in front of the women's bathroom, but never one to follow the rules, I runfess that I walked around it. It's not like I needed to use the facilities.  I heard the janitor cleaning and so I stealthily drank from the fountain. While I gave myself a mental high five on my success at not getting caught, I aspirated some of the water and started to choke. Do you know how hard it is to suppress a choking cough? I scurried out the door before the janitor could bust me.

You all know how much I've been loving Swiftwick socks these days. Swiftwick has been kind enough to send me a few pairs to try and in return, I've been more than happy to share the love on my blog. I runfess that in a recent post, I botched the name of the company, although I did properly link to their website and shared an IG story with a hashtag correctly spelling the company. Proofread much? What was I thinking? Doh! Thank goodness for the sharp eyes of my Weekly Wrap co-host Holly for catching it.

Proofreading is always a win.
Back in November, I signed up for a Secret Santa gift exchange with a group of runners. In an effort to keep it fair and anonymous, the exchange was organized through a website called Elfster. I runfess that after I signed up, I got annoyed with all the promotional emails from Elfster and marked them as spam. Without all the reminders, I completely forgot about the gift exchange until the week before Christmas, when I spotted a message in the group about slow package deliveries. Crap! In a panic, I contacted the coordinator of the exchange who helped me out. What are friends and Amazon prime for if not to help out an overwhelmed runner?

For our most recent Weekly Wrap linkup, Holly and I decided to take a week off of recapping. We did open the linkup though. Holly wanted to do a mailbox theme and I was happy to oblige. I runfess that the mailbox in the photo is not mine. I don't have a traditional mailbox. What's a runner to do? While out for my run, I scoped out the mailboxes in front of houses, looking for one in front of a house that looked like no one was home. While I was setting up my phone, a dogwalker meandered by. Of course. He gave me a funny look. It is a federal offense to tamper with the mail. Would taking a runfie be an adequate defense?

I runfess that there is one thing I love more than running and that is sleeping. It hasn't always been that way. Back in the day, I had no issue waking up early and going for a run before work. Now the idea of leaving the warmth and comfort of my bed to head outside into the cold and dark for a run is just not appealing. Nor is the thought of participating in a Ragnar relay or similar event where I would miss out on sleep. My sister gave me some really amazing pjs for Christmas and now I never want to wear regular clothes again.

What do you have to runfess? Any holiday runfessions? Isn't choking on water the worst? Good speller or bad? Did you do a Secret Santa gift exchange this year? What's the craziest thing you've done for a selfie? Sleep or run--what would you rather?

I'm linking up with Marcia's Healthy Slice (she has a substitute blog site while she sorts out technical issues) for Runfessions. Be sure to check out what everyone else is 'fessing! I'm also linking up with Fridays with Fairytales and Fitness.

  1. I can relate to all.

Yes I have used someone else’s mailbox for a pic. Even a garbage can.

I used be able to run before work but now my bed is too comfortable or the cat is on my lap.

It’s not spelling. It’s the typing or autocorrect. I’m surprised at some of the typos in my posts.

I did two gift exchanges. I runfess that I regifted the first gift to the second. And the original giver got it. Oops. She loved it so all is good.

    1. Ruh Roh!!! That is a definite danger of regifting. Glad it turned out ok.

  2. OMG Darlene!! I just choked on water on my last long run. Apparently sucking out of my hydration pack straw has its risks. I did no gift exchanges but had to buy three for the kids so I feel tapped out. :P. I'm so over getting all the spammy promo emails.

  3. You always have the best runfessions! LOL on marking Elfster email as spam. It did get out of hand. I unsubscribe from many companies whom I wouldn’t mind getting occasional emails from but not every damn day.

I snuck into a closed for cleaning restroom at the park once and the janitor got so mad at me, saying it could get HIM in a lot of trouble. I hadn’t thought of that, so now I try to wait — or ask.

  4. Speaking of selfies.....just last night, after my 5@5(PM) run, I had propped my phone on one of the lamp posts by the college athletic center. I was backing away and "posing" before the timer went off, and noticed a campus security vehicle pull over. I waved at the driver, and he asked me if I was alright? or if I'd lost something? I sheepishly told him I was just taking my picture.....I don't think he rolled his eyes (it was dark, though). So, yeah...busted in a selfie.

  5. I hate getting out of bed early in the Winter! It’s so hard when it’s cold out and the bed is warm :)

  6. My work does a "Covert Coworker" thing where you give small gifts throughout the year, or just little notes. Around Thanksgiving I realized I didn't get anything. I wasn't going to complain- maybe my person was super busy and stressed? But then the coordinator asked if anyone had not received anything yet, so I spoke up. It turns out two people thought they had the same person so they were getting DOUBLE gifts! One of those people was reassigned to me and so far I got a cat wine glass and cat treats for Christmas and Jelly. :)

    1. You would think the double recipient would have said something!

    2. Maybe they just thought they were being spoiled by one person!

  7. I also got a lot of emails from Elfter and I found that to be quite annoying too! But I'm glad that all was well in the end and looking forward to doing the gift exchange again next year!

    1. I feel so bad about what happened when I marked them as spam! Next year I'll play along! Thank you for organizing it.

  8. I love the idea of gift exchanges, but held myself back this year and only did one with an online group and one with my local running group. I still managed to have the local one arrive AFTER Christmas. Oops...

  9. Not only do I choke on water, I swear that I can choke on my own spit. And air. It's fun to be me, LOL.

  10. I love my sleep time and my pjs. My husband recently started bringing me coffee in bed which is making it way harder to get moving in the morning.

  11. I just received a credit from Running Warehouse so I will look into those socks. I remember years ago I had a few pairs but there was something about the texture that I did not like and so I gave them away. I love SmartWool but nothing wrong with having more.

As for the botching the name of the company, I once saw in a post the blogger linking to the WRONG shoes on Amazon. She was wearing Sketchers but linked to a pair of Brooks Ghost.

  12. Too funny about marking Elfster spam - they did go a little overboard didn't they? And, I so hear you on the lack of desire to get out of bead for early runs - it is getting harder and harder to leave the warmth of my bed.

    1. I really shouldn't have made it spam--I thought I'd remember to check in, but I should know better than to trust my memory!

  14. The sleeping! Me too. Especially this winter for some reason. I used to jump up at 5:30. No more!

    1. I never had problems getting up early before! Somehow I'm ok with sleeping in now.

  15. Yesterday I spent almost the entire day in my pjs, but then I had to walk the darn dogs. I really didn't want to, considered not doing it, but, well, they need their walk. Dammit. I'm always up early, but being up and out the door -- that's a totally different thing.

Oh no about the choking! At some of the paths here they actually put a chain across the doorway to the bathrooms. I've always kind of wondered why . . . I guess they don't want to have to deal with whatever mess people would leave, but my guess is people do hop right over that chain anyway. And sometimes they turn off the water, too!

    1. There's no water on the paths and the bathrooms are locked (or gone) this time of year. I guess we're just supposed to hibernate!

  16. Ha - love your watery tale! We had to sneak into a pub to use the loos the other weekend, although the cleaner and indeed the landlady were really really nice about it! Sleep is the next best thing to running, or even THE best. Happy Twixmas and I'm not sure what's happening about the linkup for me this week as I have done NO RUNNING due to a cold!
