Life is Better On or In The Water

As you might already know,  I was out of town last week, visiting my former Weekly Wrap cohost Holly. We were joined by our friend Teresa for a really fun Camp Hoho girls' weekend! I shared all the details on my IG. There wasn't any running but there was a lot of water time and a lot of laughs. I came home on Monday with a smile on my face and rode that wave (pun intended) into an extended weekend getaway with my hubs in Wisconsin.

Because truly, life is better on the water! I have to take advantage of every opportunity to get out there and get wet. The season is way too short for us in the Midwest.

Waterskiing

This week and last was all about waterskiing. I mentioned in my Recoveryfessions post that I was pretty darned nervous about waterskiing, even though my ortho said I could try. It felt great, but I was still pretty cautious. I continued that mindset this week when the hubs and I headed to Lake Wisconsin. He took a couple of days off work to spend some time with me. Can I just say how nice it was to be out on the lake during the week? There were no other boats on the water and the conditions were just perfect. I skied so much that by Saturday, my exhaustion was real and I declined another ski sesh. We'll go back next week and I hope that I'll get in one last ride for 2021.

I love my pretty pink ski!

Pool Running

I got in two good Fluid Running sessions before I left for Alabama. Sadly, the pool is closed for 2 weeks for maintenance, so I am sidelined from pool running. I did a lake running session in Alabama when Holly challenged me to 'run' to the buoy and back. Pretty sure that counts. I'm looking forward to the pool reopening so I can get back at it. There are a few new workouts on the app and I can't wait to try them out!

Run-ups are hard!

Stationary Cycling

I finally got my bike back from the shop...and it was an expensive stay at the bike hospital. I brought my bike home with a pretty yellow trainer tire. Did you know that if you put your bike in the trainer, you should use a trainer tire?  I also bought a new road tire and when I'm ready to take my bike back on the road, I'll have the bike shop install it. For now, I'm riding again with the Global Cycling Network, this week doing a 30 minute HIIT workout that made me sweat!

Coach Cocoa is pretty tough!

Walking

Silly me, I jumped into a Strava running challenge. Fortunately, walking counts. Aftershokz sponsored a Summer Sizzle Challenge, which required 13.1 miles in one week. I am happy to report that I finished that one up today. While I'm surprised (again) at how good walking feels, I walked up at the lake on Saturday and sadly got only my second blister ever. Ugh. Not sure how that happened. Regardless, it was the first time that I felt like I could run since I broke my ankle and foot. I didn't run, but I am amazed and awed at the power of this body. I'm grateful for the healing.

This shirt was everything!

Coming up...

I'm going back to work with Sammy Jo on Thursday! Excited to start lifting again. I'm looking at going back to the WOD as well. It feels like this injury was way less eventful than it could have been. I know I keep talking about gratitude, but guys, I'm feeling it. I didn't think I'd be able to waterski at all this year after my injury. And yet, I got to ski on that pretty pink ski way more than I could have hoped for. I can't wait to lace up my running shoes and run...

How was your week? What are you doing to beat the heat? Have you done any Strava challenges this summer?

I'm linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Rundown.

  4. You always find the right solution to stay active. I love the water too, I was born and I live in a city on the sea and ... I worked on the sea (Coast Guard), so I can understand your feeling.
Walking is also good, because we have all the time to watch better the landscape, to take some pictures and, of course, to stay fit.
    Have a great week!

  6. Indeed, gratitude is everything. It will make an injury/recovery go SO much easier if we keep a smile on our faces and embrace the big picture. Glad things are healing up well!

    1. I go back to see the ortho in 2 weeks; he will re-xray the foot. If it is continuing to heal well, then I should be able to start. I just don't want to jeopardize the union of the bones--after all, he was considering surgery for a while.

  14. That's great that you were able to ski so much! I have watched some YouTube videos from GCN, but didn't realize they have training videos. And, a training tire for the trainer? I didn't know that!
