Coffee Talk

Let's catch up over coffee! What are you having? I'm enjoying a cup of Colectivo Brazil with a scoop of GLG collagen and a splash of half and half. My hubs gave me a couple bags of Colectivo for Valentine's Day. You know it's my favorite and I'm certainly enjoying it!

What would you tell me over coffee?

If we were having coffee, I'd tell you that I am SO HAPPY to see that Covid cases are way down. What we see clinically is always a little ahead of what you hear on the news, and we were definitely seeing fewer positive Covid cases in our patients towards the end of January. I would also tell you that I got some great news in that my patient satisfaction scores were over 90% in both metrics that are monitored for all providers. This is in spite of being ridiculously busy during the height of Omicron.

Call me surprised...

If we were having coffee, I'd share that I've been feeling a little motherhood melancholy lately. I haven't seen either of my boys since the holidays! We do touch base often, via text, but it's not the same. They're both so busy! My oldest is working nights and in his free time, he's busy with his girlfriend. My youngest is still at school, but he's also got a lab internship, is working as a bartender, and is the VP of the rugby club. Lucky for me, I'm planning on seeing both of them this weekend.

If we were having coffee... I'd tell you that we learned this week that our dentist retired. He is a gem and I don't know how anyone can replace him. I have a healthy skepticism of dentists, having had some bad experiences with previous dentists in my lifetime. We loved this dentist. Not only is he a very kind practitioner who we could trust to not perform unnecessary treatment, but he is also an all-around good human being. We also had an interesting personal connection. We discovered that our ancestors immigrated together from Germany and settled in the area where I grew up, establishing the Catholic church where I was married.

I trusted him so much that when I had a 4 hour procedure done,
I let him pick the music and listened to Neil Young the entire time, no complaining...

If we were having coffee, I'd tell you that Cocoa wasn't feeling so good the past couple of weeks. She's so active, that it's hard to tell when she's not well, but she had been scratching and licking so much lately that she was getting raw spots. I took her to the vet where they gave her an injection of an anti-allergy medication and did an unmentionable treatment that dogs sometimes need (dog owners, you get me, right?) She is like a new pup now and even crazier than ever. And my bank account is much lighter, sigh...

After a recent visit to the groomer

If we were having coffee, I'd share with you some of the shows we've been watching:

  • The Tinder Swindler is a Netflix documentary about a guy who deceived women on a dating app, scamming them out of a lot of money. It's kind of a crazy story and I cannot believe these women fell for it, but I guess they were attracted by his lifestyle.
  • The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window is a Netflix series that IMHO should have been a movie. It's the story of a depressed divorceé who has a love of wine and spies on her neighbors. She witnesses a gruesome murder--or did she? and tries to find out the truth. It was actually pretty entertaining, but I felt like it was a little long.
  • Yellowstone seasons 1-3 forced us to subscribe to Peacock plus for a month. We could not handle all the commercials when we tried to watch it on Hulu. Let me just say that it was worth it. My husband and I found it to be completely captivating. The scenery, the acting, and the actors (hello Kevin Costner!) kept us wanting more. It's really good. We don't have cable and so we can't watch season 4--so stupid, really! But it gives us something to look forward to when it comes out on a streaming service.
  • In the meantime, we are now wrapping up 1883, which is the prequel to Yellowstone. As an avid fan of the Little House on the Prairie books--NOT the show--I like to think of 1883 as the 'real' pioneer story. It's not always an easy watch, but it's really good. I am pleasantly surprised at how good Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are as actors in the show. They're also good horseback riders. Looking forward to future seasons of this show.
Well, I guess I had a lot to share! What would you tell me over coffee? Do you like your dentist? What shows have you been watching this past winter? Are Covid cases down by you?

I'm linking up with Coco and Deborah for the Ultimate Coffee Date and with the ladies of Fit Five Friday:  DarleneMichelleReneeJenn, and Zenaida.

  1. Congrats on the high satisfaction rating! That is awesome! Our long-time dentist sold his business without warning and one day we got a letter from the one who bought the business, whom I never cared for. We stopped watching the new season of Emily in Paris because it is super cheesy and so far the new season of Mrs Maisel isn't very good either. Cute Cocoa! Glad she's feeling better!

    1. We made it all the way through Emily, but yeah, eeeeesh. Stopped Mrs Maisel for the same reason. Off to check out The Gilded Age!

  2. Actually not super fond of our dentist, but also don't detest him. He's ok. Our previous one apparently turned out to be a pedophile! And we liked him. So there ya go.

I would love to watch Yellowstone, love Kevin Costner, but not paying for another streaming service. Womp womp. First world problems.

  3. It's so encouraging to see covid numbers declining - light at the end of this very long tunnel I hope! Congrats on your satisfaction ratings.

Great to hear Cocoa is feeling better - poor pup.

I was curious about Yellowstone (because as you said Hello Kevin Costner!) but I have been reluctant to take on yet another streaming service. May have to bite the bullet....

Enjoy your time with your boys this weekend :)

  4. I hope this dip is covid cases lasts — and that we’re not throwing caution to the wind too soon! Congrats on the great feedback at work, I’m sure you deserve it. Bummer on the dentist. I like my dentist but not his partner, so if he retires I’ll be looking elsewhere.

    1. I feel like we're being sold on the new dentist. I'll give her a chance, but it's a tough sell...

  5. Thankfully, Max has never needed the unmentionable procedure, LOL Most of my TV time is devoted to basketball, but a few friends turned me onto Inventing Anna, and it's pretty intriguing. My dentist is just a few years older than me, so I don't look for him to be retiring for awhile (fingers crossed).

  6. Weirdly, I had the same experience with my dentist- we had one that we loved and had been going to for years and years. I totally trusted him with my teeth, and then he retired. He recommended someone new, who we've been going to, but it's not the same.
I'm not a dog owner so am wondering what the unmentionable treatment it? But I'm also kind of afraid to ask. Very glad she's feeling better!
Yes, it seems like maybe... hopefully for real this time... Covid is subsiding. We'll see, but I'm feeling optimistic.
i'm glad you're seeing your boys this weekend! Mine is coming home for spring break and I can't wait.

    2. My other 2 Cockers didn't have this issue. This dog is so high maintenance!

  7. We have watched all of those shows as well. Yellowstone is so good! My daughter got to me to watch Love is Blind season 2 that was filmed in Chicago. Entertaining but crazy! We love Gilded Age right now.I also miss my kids a lot right now. I am making a quick weekend visit to Chicago at the end of March to see her for her birthday. It's hard to have them so far away

  8. I'm watching the Guilded Age - was a Downton Abbey fan! Now Inventing Anna - weird.

Don't see our stepsons often... maybe it's a boy thing.

Love my Dentist but he is retiring soon... his son is just ok.

  9. So glad to hear that Cocoa is feeling better. It sucks when our furry friends don't feel well :(

The Tinder Swindler was such a wild documentary. I can't believe that he's still not in jail!

  10. I love my dentist too. I've been going to him for over 20 years. I know soon he will retire so I need to prepare myself for that but know that I will also be in denial. I've heard of the shows but have not watched them. Glad Cocoa is doing much better!

  11. I had to break up with my dentist office because they're no longer a preferred provider. I haven't watched Yellowstone but they film near here. In 2020 one of my employees was out with a fire helicopter and got exposed to covid. Tests were very limited then and Kevin Costner also wanted one in the same town. Kevin got denied and my employee got the test!

  12. I'm so happy about seeing less covid cases lately too (finallyyyyy)!

That's good that you get to see your sons soon!

It's so nice to have a great dentist that you trust! I found the one I'm going to last year and he's pretty awesome.

One of my patient's granddaughters is on Yellowstone! I added it to my to-watch list because it sounds awesome, but now I'm gonna have to add 1883 too! :P (I was also a fan of the Little House on the Prairie books!) I really liked The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window, haha. (I watched The Woman in the Window a couple weeks later and it was a spot-on parody. :P )

    1. I read the Women in the Window, so I figured this was a take on it. I didn't know there was a movie!

  13. Sweet Cocoa! I hope she is doing well.

I loved The Tinder Swindler. And now I'm watching The Dropout, about Elizabeth Holmes. I also watched the new West Side Story movie, and I loved it.

I hate the dentist, so I understand your trepidation. I actually have an appointment in two weeks. Boo.

  14. Pro tip on finding a dentist- when my patients move away this is what I tell them, contact a local Periodontist. They specialize in the health of the bones and gums in your mouth. General dental offices refer patients to them so they have the opportunity to see all the local dental work and they know who does quality lasting dental work. Good luck on finding a new dentist you can trust! Let me know if you have any other questions.

    1. Thank you for the advice!! I've got a lot of dental issues, so I just don't want to be taken advantage of.
