Intense Runfessions

Can you believe it's already time to runfess? Since February is the shortest month, it makes sense. What doesn't make sense is how many runfessions I came up with for such a short month! Oh well..when you gotta runfess, you gotta runfess! Thank goodness Marcia opens the runfessional so we can cleanse our soles and start fresh at the beginning of a new month.

What do you have to runfess?

I blogfess... I recently unpublished an old blog post from 2017, It was titled 5 Running Questions I'd Ask the Magic 8 Ball and was a satirical post about looking for answers to some running concerns I was having at the time. Over the past year, this post has generated a lot of views, but it has attracted some really weird people. Most recently, I had an email from a "spiritual advisor" who wanted to share it with her readers in exchange for me sharing her website.

I runfess... a few weeks ago, I posted a reel on IG. I was deciding on music and MCHammer's classic Can't Touch This came up in the list of featured songs. I thought it would work and added it to the reel. As soon as I posted it, I got a red exclamation mark on the post, telling me that my post would be 'blocked' in Russia because of copyright laws.

I crossfitfess... I've had some issues lately with some of the people in my classes taking a workout space or equipment that I've set up to use during the WOD. In one instance, I put my bag and my shoes in a spot on the rig and walked away to gather equipment, only to return to find another woman with her barbell in the rack. Another time, I had a bench set up in my spot and watched another woman walk over, pick it up, and walk away with it. That time, I even said something and her response was basically: "I need it".

I runfess... after battling with my old Garmin Forerunner 35, it was time to start looking for a new one. The battery indicator is not accurate anymore. I would fully charge it, go for a run, and get the low battery warning. When I finish and upload the run, the battery indicator shows a full charge. I can't trust the heart rate indicator--it's all over the place. And don't even get me started about waiting for a GPS signal! With a couple longish races coming up, I needed something more reliable. I was shocked at how expensive even the 'basic' models were. I set my sights on the Forerunner 55 and found a used one on eBay.

I runfess... the day after an intense CrossFit or strength workout, my appetite is insatiable! I can't believe how hungry I am and no matter how much I try to curb my intake, I can't. This doesn't seem to happen to me after a hard run, though. Excuse me while I go eat all the food to ponder this...

What do you have to runfess? Have you had any old blog posts go viral in a bad way? Any Reels get blocked? Have you ever had issues with territorial athletes in a group class? Have you purchased a new Garmin lately? Do you have intense hunger after a hard workout?

I'm linking up with Marcia for Runfessions and with the ladies of Fit Five Friday: DarleneMichelle, Jenn, and Zenaida.

  1. That's so annoying when people take your stuff at the box. I've seen that happen to Greg at the gym and it ain't pretty. That's nuts about your 8-ball post! Maybe it wouldn't be the worst thing ever to have a reel blocked in Russia...just saying.

    1. That was exactly my thought, lol! Interesting, that reel did have fewer views than normal.

  2. New Garmins are very expensive! They do last for years though. I have been getting weird DM's from a spiritual advisor lately too -maybe those are the new cryto scammers lol

  3. Yes, you definitely need a more reliable watch! I have the Forerunner 55 and I like it.
I've never had that issue at the gym (although I have OTHER gym issues, as you might see in my post today.) But I don't take any group classes so there's not much chance for people to steal my equipment.
Funny story about the Magic 8 Ball post. Too bad you unpublished it- I think i remember it but now I want to read it again!

    1. Looking back at the post, it was really kind of dumb, so I didn't mind taking it down!

  4. I've seen people fight over a spot in an aerobics or step class because "that's where they always set up", but have never seen anyone take over a spot already set up. That's really rude!

My Garmin is very outdated so I don't have any recommendations for you. All I know is how annoying it is when technology doesn't work as expected and agree that you need a new Garmin before your spring races.

    1. You know there are politics no matter what the group is--even at a gym!

  5. I will get reels blocked after months, which is so weird. As long as I've already gotten paid for it, I don't really care. Gym people can be so rude.

  6. Some days I am really hungry and I don't know why.

That is just so wrong about the people taking stuff at the gym. Kinda makes me glad I no longer belong to one.

I've considered replacing my Garmin a few times, when it does wonky things, but it's only 3 years old (although getting closer to 4 now) so I haven't pulled the bullet. Simply everything is more expensive these days!

  7. Yeah, I had major sticker shock when I got my Forerunner 55 last July, but it was money well spent. I still haven't downloaded the enormous owners manual, though I have peeked at it a few token times. Usually a Google search will suffice anyways if I need assistance with the bells and whistles.

  8. Hah! You always have great runfessions. I hate having to share equipment at the gym. That's why I try to early and have it to myself.

    1. I am thinking about going back to the early morning workout for that reason!

  9. I have an Apple Watch (which I love) but use my Garmin 35 for races.... I don't use it for running so it's still fine and does what I need it to.

When I went to the gym, I went early and hardly anyone was there. I don't like sharing or waiting.

  10. Equipment sharing issues at the gym used to drive me nuts - as Coco mentioned, definitely a reason to workout early in the morning. So rude!

That's so wild about your 8-ball post! And how random that MC Hammer music would be blocked in Russia - I think I could live with being blocked there ;)

  11. Nice job on getting a used Forerunner! I have the FR 245 and I'm very happy with it. It has enough fitness stats to keep me entertained but not too many to confuse me, ha.
At our box, there's always a fight for the "good" skipping ropes. I bought my own skipping rope at the store yesterday.
Do you use hand grips (gloves)? Not sure if I should get them.

    1. I don't have hand grips. I've considered it but I really haven't needed them yet. If I ever get proficient on the bar, maybe I will! I have my own jump rope too.
