An Uneventful Week

What? Uneventful? It was nice to get a break from the daily onslaught of family drama. I don't think it's over yet, but it was nice to focus on other things.

It was back to running for me on Wednesday! The blister has mostly healed, and shhhh... my knees have been quiet. Now if the humidity would drop...

Weekly Rundown:

Sunday: Waterskiing
Monday: Yoga with Adriene, Strength Training
Tuesday: Fluid Running (outdoor pool)
Wednesday: trail run 6.25 miles
Thursday: Yoga with Adriene, Strength Training
Friday: Run 4 miles
Saturday: rest day/work

Just like on Saturday, on Sunday, the hubs was more than happy to take me out for a ski at 6 am. There was a little chop on the water in our bay, so he drove me to my favorite skiing spot, Okee Bay. The water was like glass, and I enjoyed 2 trips around the bay before I dropped. My heart was full.

Monday's strength training followed the same format as last week:
Set 1:
4 rounds: :40  KB (15#) kickstand squat/:10 transition/:40 single leg hip thrusts/:30 rest
Set 2:
4 rounds: :40 KB (15#) lateral step up/:10 transition/:40 kickstand (15#) RDL/:30 rest
Set 3:
4 rounds: :40 box jumps (16")/:10 transition/:40 tall kneeling Pallof Press/:10 transition
Set 4:
4 rounds: :40 A-jumps (2x45#plates) with squat/:10 transition/:40 Band pullover with leg raise/:30 rest

After 10 days out of my trail shoes, on Wednesday morning, I laced up and enjoyed a pain-free run around the preserve! Whew! It was as if I hadn't missed a beat. It was steamy, and the mosquitoes managed to find a place to bite me where I hadn't sprayed--through my socks! I did have to stop to let my heart rate drop in the last couple of miles. But overall, this run felt really good!

Thursday's strength training was tough in the oppressive humidity (the gym does not have AC)
Set 1:
4 rounds: :40 DB (20#) Gorilla Press/:10 /:40 DB (20#) Floor Press/:30 rest
Set 2:
4 rounds: :40 seated Landmine (40#) press/:10 /:40 single arm Landmine (#50) row/:30 rest
Set 3:
4 rounds: :40 dips/:10/ :40 KB (45#) suitcase carry/:30 rest
Set 4:
4 rounds: :40 chin-ups/:10/:40 medball plank tucks/:30 rest

Hazy sunshine and 98% humidity greeted me for my early morning run. I only had time for 4 miles, and I didn't mind at all. I made my way around the neighborhood and took a few walk breaks when my heart rate spiked. This was a tough little run, but as always, I was glad that I did it. And glad to be done...

How was your week? How do you get your runs done in the dog days of summer? What is your favorite alternative activity when you're injured and cant run (or bike)?

I'm linking up with Deborah and Kim for the Weekly Rundown.

  1. Yeah on the quiet week — and running! Ugh on the mosquito bites though — I tend to get eaten alive and can’t stand it.

I’m making the most of walking and hiking and shorter Peloton rides while I deal with my hip, I do miss running even in this weather!

    1. I've got some amazing mosquito/tick repellant--it's 'sweat proof' and it always surprises me when I get bit!

  2. A quiet and uneventful week is great! Mine would have been that if I hadn't had stitches and now I can't lift weights or run for a few days. So I'm doing just walking right now. Walking is my go-to when I can't run. I also enjoy swimming and we have a rowing machine, but I don't do those nearly as much. I hate mosquitoes this time of year! Summer is my favorite season without the bugs LOL

  3. Oof! No AC at the gym! That makes those workouts extra hard in this heat. And the heat is not going away! It I am not complaining since I wait and wait for summer to arrive.

I ran at my parents last weekend in 97% humidity. I was so sweaty when I got back but only did 4 miles so it wasn’t too bad. I do not miss the days of logging 15 mile training runs on the 5 mile loop behind their house, though! OTF is nice and cool luckily so I am especially enjoying the workouts there this week.

I am glad you got a reprieve from the family drama for a week at least! I saw my family last weekend and was relieved that there was no conflict or drama which is often not the case. I had decided I would call out anyone who was rude to me because I am tired of it. Luckily I did not have to. Phew. It was a truly wonderful weekend and the boys had so much fun with their big cousins!!

  4. YAY for a pain-free run and a drama-free week! You deserve a break, Wendy!
Nice job in the gym, too. I remember being at a Crossfit box in Southwest Florida with no AC... but it was kind of cool, getting all sweaty felt quite dramatic and appropriate for some of the workouts 😅
I noticed houses right along the shoreline of the lake and was wondering whether there are any noise restrictions - especially on a Sunday at 6am?

  5. No AC at the gym would be a no go for me! So you hubs in an early bird as well?! Mine would not be willing to do anything at 6 am lol. Glad you are enjoying your skiing again this summer. Seems perfect for the humidity-its relentless

  6. I wish I had an uneventful week! Your last question is spot-on for me, and I actually asked the same question in my post. My answer would be... it's complicated. I have a love-hate relationship with the StairMaster.
Anyway- your week sounds great! Glad everything is feeling good and you had some great runs. BUT WHAT IS THIS, your gym as no AC??? You guys are hardcore.
