Runfessions: July

Ok, where is the summer going so fast? Can you believe August is right around the corner? The end of the month means it's time to runfess. This month, I've got some gems. The runfessional is open and I'm looking for absolution. Let's get right to it.

Earlier this month, I had a surprisingly satisfying 8 mile run in the heat and humidity. Where did that come from? I don't know but I runfess that the night before I ran I had a hot dog and an ice cream bar for dinner. I never eat hot dogs but we were at my son's rugby tournament, I was starving, and there was a limited menu at the concession stand. Now I wonder if all that nutrition stuff we runners worry about is for naught.
Speaking of dogs, Cocoa loves to hang around me when I'm outside doing yoga or practicing my handstands. You may recall some of her poses seeming to imitate mine. She also often walks in front of the camera while I'm taking my selfies. While practicing my handstand a few weeks ago, I runfess that I may have asked her to move out of the way. She did, but not before stopping to water the grass. Or maybe that's what she thought I was doing...

Kicking up into handstand. I swear.
Cocoa isn't the only photobomber at our house. While I was waiting for Holly to finish at RnR Chicago last weekend, I runfess that I may have photobombed a group or 2 who were posing for post-race photos. Is that wrong?

The day after my rheumatologist injected my knees with a steroid, I went to my first-ever bootcamp at the CrossFit box where I train. I was feeling pretty good and excited to try something new. At the beginning of the class, we were told to get all our equipment together and to set up our rowers. During the EMOM, I headed to "my" rower only to see that a guy in our class was rowing on it. I silently cursed him and sat on the rower next to him. I had to adjust the foot straps to get my shoes on the pads. The rower wouldn't turn on. While I struggled with the rower, everyone else finished rowing and was moving on to the next activity. Coach Sammy Jo saw my frustration and came over to help me. I runfess that out of the blue I exclaimed: "WTF, he took my rower!". Only I didn't use the abbreviation. And I may have growled.

As an ambassador for Zooma, I've been promoting the Great Lakes race. I was playing with the perspective filter on my photo to try to bring the logo on the shirt into better view. This is what I got. I runfess that this photo made me laugh way harder than I should have. This photo even got a laugh out of my not-a-morning-person youngest son. Never grow up.

What do you have to runfess? Have you ever photobombed anyone?  Has your dog ever photobombed you? What's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten as a pre-long run meal? Do you like to have fun with filters?

I'm linking my Runfessions up with Marcia--she is in charge of the Runfessional! I'm also linking up with the Friday Five aka Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness.

    1. Probably not! In fact, he got my rower ready for me before I sat down for the rest of the EMOMs!

  3. Ha ha photo editing never quite goes the way I think it will either-that's a gem of one. Maybe hot dogs are the key to your success?!

    1. I don't even like hot dogs! But if it means I'll run well the next day, then I'll choke them down...

  4. Your photo made me laugh too. Thanks.

  5. The photo is grand (literally) LOL One time, I took a photo of myself, standing by my bike. I had the camera (phone) on the ground, and the angle was so distorted that I looked like an ogre with a kiddie bike

  6. The dancing hot dog gif is amazing, haha. Sometimes it's weird what foods help to fuel a good run - you just never know!

OMG that last photo made me LOL!

  7. Haha OMG that last photo! And of course the one of Cocoa watering your lawn...
I wish I could join you for the Zooma race - that is the same weekend as the Berlin Marathon.

  8. I'd say you are learning the art of the photobomb from Cocoa :D
ANd that hot dog animation is everything.

    1. Cocoa has the photobomb mastered. I'm sure she knows EXACTLY what she's doing.

  9. You didn't mention what those insects are flying around you in the first photo - inquiring minds... LOL

  10. My sister's dog Baylee is a total photo bomber. I swear she knows as soon as my sister goes to take a picture she needs to be in.

    1. Cocoa totally knew what she was doing. She always stands in front of my phone when I"m trying to take a picture!

  11. I photo bomb friends, and they get me back too. I have a great picture of my friend Gina photo-bombing perfectly in the background.

    1. The people I photobombed were total strangers.... which makes it kind of bad, right?

  12. I think Cocoa was simply taking cues from her Mama. You do both have similar poses. LOL. That last picture is nothing short (ha ha) of freaky!

  13. That photo looks almost like one of those caricature drawings! My dog likes to photobomb her own photos - she'll be sitting/laying photogenically, and as soon as she sees the camera she starts walking towards me. So instead of a cute photo I get giant distorted dog head.

    1. Cocoa will go up to the phone and sniff it, so a lot of times I"ll have a picture of her nose. She know what she's doing.

  14. I runfess that I am happy to be running again. Although it feels more like a shuffle. I'm a regular photobomber - I stopped trying to avoid it in Hawaii. I runfess that I laughed a little too hard when a guy walking toward me looking at his phone didn't see me until he almost ran me over. I saw him coming and decided to see how long he would walk without looking up. I might have laughed a little too much over his yelp of surprise.

  15. Ahaha that photo reminds me of an oompa loompa in the best way possible. I runfess that I photobombed a few at RnR as well...

  16. I runfess that since FL, I've clung to pizza as a prerace dinner. And it seems to be working for me ... until it didn't. I had some GI issues in this race, and while I really don't know what happened, my guess is something I ate. My husband had the pizza too & he was fine (of course he also didn't run down a mountain).

What he didn't have? The salad I had. And I always have salad with my pizza before a race. All I can say is I hope that was a one & done thing!

    1. I pretty much eat anything the night before a race. Obviously not corn or beans, but other than that, I do just fine.

  17. Hmm hot dogs before a long run...who knew?! That shot with Cocoa is pretty funny - my dog always ends up in front of the camera.

  19. Such a funny dog! Mine doesn't like to get his picture taken. He is always squirming to get out of the picture. Mmmm...hot dogs as a pre-race dinner? Sounds pretty shaky to me. :)

    1. You just get what you get --I've done "everything" right the night before a race and had some portapotty stops; other times, I do really well.

  20. I swear my best runs are the morning after I binge on Chinese food! I know, that sounds really weird. But I can totally see how you had a good run after a hot dog and ice cream.

  21. That last photo is great! I used to get so annoyed at the gym when people would take "my" treadmill or elliptical. I've had good runs after eating some not-so-healthy food. I think it takes a few days of eating like that for my body to realize that its not happy.

  22. Ha love the dog photo! I photobombed my friend Ruth's nice pic of the lake in the park the other day, it was hilarious and we were running so it was OK, right??

  23. I have to ask - what does EMOM mean?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ha! Leave it to a dog to make a photo just "that much better." LOL

I have totally had people jump on my equipment mid-WOD. It never ends well for them. RAWR!

I have never photobombed anyone (that I didn't know) but my husband has fun doing that. I try not to laugh out loud and give him away. haha
