Runfessions: February

It's the last Friday of February and that means its time for runfessions! Is it just me or did February just fly by? Anyways, Marcia has opened the runfessional, so let's head in and cleanse our soles...

I runfess that I had another blog post prepared for today. Crap! I thought that next Friday was the last Friday of February. Then on Thursday night,  I saw Marcia's announcement on Facebook that the runfessional was open. So here I am, scrambling at the last minute to get something ready. But you know it's no problem. As if I don't have things to runfess...

I runfess that I am not running the Cherry Blossom 10 miler in April. Even though I was accepted through the lottery, life circumstances dictated otherwise. Whenever I've had to DNS a race in the past, I left my registration money on the table. Not with this race. They have an amazing bib transfer process. I posted my bib availability on the site and within 1 minute--I kid you not--I got 10 emails of people begging me to sell them my bib. One person even offered me $100, which is completely against the rules and could jeopardize future participation in the race. I sold it to the first person to respond. What an amazing process and it made me think how great it would be if other races would do this!

I runfess that I'm struggling bigly with motivation. Running feels hard right now. Just when I'm ready to give it up, I have a good run and then I'm back on the wagon. I'm coming off of a really great year of running and so this lack of motivation feels foreign to me. I was hoping to run a half in Florida in a couple of weeks, but my longest run since Mobile has been 6 miles. I guess I'll do what I always do and see how I feel the week before...

I can always prance my way to the finish, right?
I runfess that my Inknburn addiction continues unabated. I finally listed a few of the items I rarely wear on a couple trading sites. I sold a couple of them but not all. Then Inknburn posted some new designs and I was sucked in. Oh, Inknburn, why do you do this to me?

I runfess that I've been slacking on yoga this month. I have no explanation of why. But in my monthly book club selection, Good to Go, the author finds that recovery is so overrated. So I feel better. But yet I don't....

Am I right?
What do you have to runfess? Were you caught off guard that it was time to runfess? Have you ever signed up for a race that had a bib exchange? Have you had issues with motivation? Do you have an addiction to a running clothing brand? Recovery, yay or nay?

I'm linking up with Marcia for Runfessions as well as Fridays with Fairytales and Fitness.

  1. YES to being able to transfer bibs!!! Every single race should offer that, I mean, it makes TOO much sense!! I hope you get your running mojo back but, in the meantime, maybe just try on more cool InkBurn outfits and look the part :-) I have no clue it was "runfession" but I actually wrote a pretty personal "confession" post so I hope its ok I added my link? Of course I will follow all the other rules but feel free to remove it if you need to. Otherwise - happy Friday!

  2. You know that sadly I'm right there with you on the whole motivation thing right now. Hopefully, as the weather improves our mojos will come out of hiding.

Isn't the Cherry Blossom bib transfer the best?! I really wish more races would offer the option!

    1. I couldn't believe how awesome the bib transfer process was. The guy who bought my bib transferred it to his mom, Muriel. I don't know why I cared, but it sure made me happy!

  3. Ironically, My mojo has been in top form, so the time with Milly has been tolerable. That tolerable time with her, though, is on the verge of running out if this freeze chill doesn't break soon...

  4. Hooray on the bib transfer! It would be awesome if that was the norm. I mean why not? Ink n Burn makes a Tokyo Marathon jacket. Of course it's very cool. And sold out. Thanks for getting the runfessions together in the clutch!

  5. Sorry to hear that you can't run the race but how amazing that you were able to transfer your bib to someone else! I really don't understand why most races don't do this - it's so frustrating!

This has been a particularly harsh winter, especially in Chicago, so I can understand why your motivation may be lacking a bit. Once Spring hits I bet all of your running mojo will come back!

  6. Argh! You just reminded me that I forgot to pre-order an InkNBurn top I wanted. I'm so bummed I won't get to meet you at Cherry Blossom, but am determined to get to Chicago. I think we all almost missed runfessing - we do have almost a whole week left!

    1. Was it the Sakura top? I wanted the capris too but I just couldn't spend the $$. We will get to meet this year. I just feel it in my bones..

  7. While I am sad that you won't be joining us for CB, I am glad that you were able to sell your bib so quickly. I have been having the same back and forth feelings with running lately. I guess we all go through these phases but ugh I am over it. I am always on the hunt for cute running gear

  8. That bib transfer process is awesome. I agree - more races should offer this service. I'm with you on the Runfessions catching me off guard. I had another post ready to go too, then I realized it was Runfessions time. Oh, well, now I am ahead of the game for next week. Love the Inkburn stuff too. I just haven't had the guts and the $$$ to get any of it yet.

  9. Yes, I felt like I just runfessed but had no problem finding things to runfess about.

That bib transfer process is great. if NYC had it, I might do it for Mar 17 as I am not running now.

I am addicted to Skirt Sports. I have too many skirts but I see a new pattern and I want it!!

I do want to do Cherry Blossom some day but DC is so expensive. I also want to run in Chicago.

I hope you get to race in Florida...It is awesome even if you run it slooooow.

    1. Right now, I say no to the Florida race, but you know me...it could be a race morning decision!

  10. What a great process to transfer bibs! More races should do that.
I runfess that I'm finally running regularly again and it feels good!

  11. I'm sorry you wont be running cherry blossom this year but good that you were able to transfer your bib. I tend to get a bit stressed out when I have to travel for a race, do you? The only rae I DNS was Big Sur and I was actually relieved..lol

    1. It depends on the situation! I do lower my expectations for destination races. I loved Big Sur! I set no goal but to finish. That was definitely a race to savor.

  12. I'm bummed you won't be running Cherry Blossom. I agree, I do wish ALL races would allow for bib transfers. That would decrease so much banditing (or would it?), and would give people a second chance to get in. Hopefully as the weather turns for the better you will get your motivation back.

  13. Oh my that activewear fashion meme. <3
And yes, wholly agree re: Cherry Blossom's deferral. I realize there's a cost to organizers but I really think more could pull it off. I wonder if the cost is really higher than policing bandits. FLL last week was the first I remember with someone actively checking for bibs as we set out from the start

  14. I wish all races had transfer bib option. I know they don't b/c they lose money on it. Big races make bank on attrition!

  15. I runfess that I forget it was time to runfess and I went ahead with my other post. I runfess I've barely run enough miles to count as running. I runfess that I'm peeved I had to DNS Cherry Blossom so close to the start last year that I couldn't sell my bib. (sorry about those life circumstances. One day we need to sit and drink wine and share. I've got some recent doozies. It never ends. Hang in there!) And I runfess that I'm crossing my fingers I don't vomit during 19.1 tonight. lol

    1. Ha! I hope you don't vomit too! I've just got bootcamp, that's enough for me!

  16. Not feeling running or yoga - are we sure this is a Wendy post?? Maybe it's just a cold winter funk...I can't imaging you seeing yoga pose and running pictures!

    1. Such a funk! My friend Steph convinced me to sign up for a few spring races and I think having something to train for will help a ton.

  18. I wish all races had bib transfer options! I hesitate to register early often because I'm worried about something coming up before race day. I hope you get your mojo back! February is the worst month in the Midwest for motivation, ugh.

  19. Your memes crack me up! The prancing and fashion.....oh my....I have to scroll down to just keep from laughing while I'm trying to read! :)

  20. I agree with the bib transfer process. I know MCM has it as well. I don't know why the Chicago Marathon doesn't have that option.

I also lost my running mojo but after almost 3 weeks of no running, finally went for a run yesterday. I plan to go again today but now it is raining.

  21. I'm sorry to hear you're not doing Cherry Blossom. I really wanted to with all of you but there's no way I could with the track schedule. Maybe next year we can try again??
