Coffee Talk

Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links.

Happy Friday! Let's sit down over a cup of coffee and catch up! What do you take in your coffee? I've got half and half and some GLG Collagen--I swear by this stuff! Have you tried it? Just 2 tablespoons are all you need. Tell me what's new in your world.

If we were having coffee, I'd share my excitement that baseball has once again started! The first day of spring might be in March, but for me, it's not spring until the Cubs play at Wrigley. Opening day at Wrigley Field is Monday, April 8, when they take on the Pirates. The weather looks decent. We didn't get to any games last summer and I hope we get to a few this year. It's hard to get tickets. You almost have to know someone. Wrigley Field in the summer is a good time!

If we were having coffee, I'd update you on my health. I had a pretty bad flare of my RA last week and my rheumatologist started me on some new medications. One of the meds is going to take some time to kick in but in the meantime, she gave me a pain medication that is in the same family as motrin and aleve. It works great and best of all, it lasts 24 hours. The only side effect I'm having is an increase in hot flashes. What the what? I guess it's a small price to pay for pain relief.

If we were having coffee, I'd tell you that in spite of feeling better, I've decided to cut back on running. I'm still going to run but just not long distances--for a while. I do have a 10 mile race next weekend, and the plan is to run that. But the halfs I have scheduled in May and July are going to be DNSs. As an ambassador for All Community Events, I am grateful that the organization has a lot of shorter races--5ks and 10ks. I plan on running as many of those as I can. I'll reevaluate my plans later in the summer, as there are 2 halfs in the fall that I'd really like to do.

If we were having coffee, I'd tell you that I am ENFP/T, aka "the Campaigner". Have you ever done a Myers-Briggs Personality test? I was reading Organic Running Mom's blog while preparing this post and while sharing her feelings on an excellent post about adjusting to being alone, she shared her personality type. I chased the link she provided and took the test. It was shockingly accurate, especially the part about hating being micromanaged. Maybe I should pass the results along to management?

This actually happened to me!
If we were having coffee, I'd talk about one of the best books I've read so far this year! Daisy Jones and The Six was one of those books that I couldn't put down. Being a huge music lover, I was so excited when the book became available from the local library for download. I'm not sure what happened, but it was only in my box for 3 days. No worries. I flew through it. It's the story of a band in the 1970s, told in interview format. I wasn't sure if I'd like that style but I had no issues with it. I actually felt as if I was on tour with the band. Daisy Jones and The Six will be coming to Amazon Prime as a mini-series. But don't wait for it. Read the book or as some of my book blogging friends suggest, listen to the audiobook, which I hear is really well done!

We're catching up over coffee! What would you tell me? /via @oldrunningmom @got2run4me @deborahbrooks3 #runchat

What would you tell me over coffee? What baseball team are you rooting for? Or do you not like baseball? What is your favorite sport to spectate? Long or short distance races--which do you prefer? Did you take the personality test? What's your type? Read any good books lately? Did you read Daisy Jones and The Six?

I'm linking up with Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date as well as Fridays with Fairytales and Fitness. Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. The Meyers Briggs is probably the first thing we did in B school. I'm an INTJ. So is my husband. What are the chances? When I was 12 I'd make my mom take us on the EL to Wrigley to sit in the bleachers. We'd all wear crazy hats to get in Arnie's hat shot. Good times.

    1. We did the MB test in grad school too. I had forgotten what I was!

  2. You know I love the 10M distance, but even that requires long training runs. I'm not excited about racing at all right now - maybe that will change after Sunday, or maybe not. I can't remember all my "letters" but I was surprised to be an E versus an I. I am good with alone time and quiet in groups of people I don't know, but I am energized being with people and other factors that made me an E.

    1. I'm struggling with the idea of running for fun vs. racing. Since I'm competitive by nature, it's a work in progress.

  3. I'm sorry your health has you DNSing; I know that most be a hard pill to swallow (and the hot flashes!). I'm kind of in the same circumstances but not due to health, just life circumstances at the moment. But the old when God closes a door, he opens a window is working for me -- I'm pursuing something else that I'm not ready to share on the blog yet, but will one day.

My husband & I were just talking about Meyers Briggs the other day. He's done it a few times, I don't believe I ever have. I definitely know I hate being micromanaged -- and so does he -- apparently we both do it though so that's not a good thing!

  4. Sorry to hear about the flare, and the having to adjust your races, that's crappy. I don't like racing much but I'd always prefer to run a long run than a short one, I just don't get into to it until about 6 miles have gone by, which can be a bit frustrating. And I don't watch baseball as have limited opportunities here - my main sports are athletics and equestrianism - the dressage, showjumping and cross-country side rather than racing.

    1. I guess you don't have baseball over there! LOL. You know we Americans think everyone is just like us...

  7. I like baseball, but with no major league teams in our area, it’s not something I follow closely. NCAA football and basketball, though, are my jams. Sorry the RA has been such a downer, hopefully the new meds will give you some relief.

  8. We used to take those personality tests all the time in college and grad school and analyze each other. I feel like mine would have changed so much since my 20's. Would be fun to do again! Phillies fans here. Thanks for joining for coffee

  9. Hey Wendy! I am not a baseball fan at all, but I do love football and basketball! I am happy to attend either live, but football even more (middle and high school cheerleader AND hostess for the football team in college, here). I love half-marathons, but as you know, I am not running any more--I totally rocked walking a 3K for charity two weeks ago, though--ha! I have taken the personality test before, but I can't remember what I was--clearly it made an impression on me. I have read a good book lately: The Marriage Pact by Michelle Richmond. It's not my usual type of book, but it was for book club, and I really enjoyed it! Have a great weekend!

  10. I have taken that test. We had to for one of my jobs and yes, it is so accurate.

That's for the book recommendation. I am always looking for something new to read.

I think it is really admirable that you do listen to your body. many of us do not. But I bet you will conquer RA and be back to the races of your choosing. if not, 5ks are a challenge enough.

    LET'S GO METS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Thank you so much for reading and sharing about my post about being alone. I am happy you were able to find some usefulness to the Myers Briggs Personality Test. It is amazing how spot on it really is. I hope you are able to keep your RA under control. I have a friend who struggles with it too so I know how hard it can be. Much love to you!

    1. I don't think a lot of people realize that RA is a systemic illness--it's not just the joints. Hoping that the new meds will calm things down so I can resume running like I used to!

  12. Enjoying some Kauai coffee this morning. I love the mellow blends.

Spring sports = Spring Classics around here, i.e. cycling races on Belgium cobbles, Milan-San Remo, Paris-Nice, etc. Although I can only watch so many crashes!

I took a personality test at a former employer once. I'm introverted and know it, but the facilitator made me very uncomfortable because he kept pointing out my "differences" (i.e. flaws.) Just what an introvert hates - drawing attention!

Hope your RA flare dies down quickly.

  13. I remember doing Myers Briggs in B school but for the life of me I don't remember what I was.

I'm really sorry RA is giving you trouble. Sounds like shifting to shorter distances for a bit is the way to go. It's never fun to have to DNS a race.

  15. Yes, I've heard of the Myers Briggs and had taken years ago so of course I forget my results! What races are you DNS-ing? Have you considered do some relay races? I've really enjoyed the ones that I've done and am going to try to find more.

    1. There aren't a lot of relay races around here! That would definitely be an option for me.

  16. Oh my gosh, the Cubs celebrating - that looks like it would be so much fun to see. I didn't realize it's so hard to get tickets to Wrigley Field, though!

I'm sorry you're having to DNS those races - I know how much you love doing the longer distances. Hopefully things will turn around for you soon.

I took that test you linked to this morning and already I can't remember what they said I was but in reading the report, I have to say they were dead on with quite a bit of it.

    1. The Cubs are so popular--even when they are losing! I am sure its the combination of the iconic Wrigley Field and the personality of the team. I hope we can get there this year!

  17. I did the Myers-Briggs test years ago as part of a teaching course. I am ENFP too! Hmmm...what does that tell you about running bloggers? I guess nothing, actually! :)

Love that video of the Cubs dancing in the bullpen. I feel the same way about spring, but substitute "Phillies" for "Cubs". Hubby and I are going out to Colorado later this month to babysit our grandson during his school's spring break. It just so happens that our trip coincided with the Phillies playing the Rockies, so we got tickets to 2 games. Yay!

  18. We went to a game at Wrigley Field when we were in Chicago for our son's graduation from Booth. I'm pretty sure it was the year the Cubs won the World Series. It was a fun night with my family, but I didn't have any skin in the game since they weren't playing the Nats.

I hope your RA flare is clearing up. I've been building my mileage back up and after today's five-miler I'm feeling some leg pain... :-(
