Loving..Not Loving

It's the end of the week and for this blog, that means it's time for something different! Usually on Fridays, I try to keep it light. Today let's talk about what we're loving...and what we're not loving.

Loving... Mother's Day this year. Although I didn't get to see my mom and my sisters, we Zoom chatted. My boys and my youngest's girlfriend came over. My oldest surprised me with flowers! We spent the day playing Fibbage, which was so funny that my abs hurt the next day from laughing so much.
Not loving... how sad and lonely I felt when I woke up Monday morning. My youngest went back to Madison. Once again, my husband and I are settling into being empty nesters.

Surprised and grateful mama!
Loving....the fun virtual race options that continue to pop up. All Community Events is offering a bunch of new events. I'm loving all the creativity that is going into these races. I'm loving the choices--from 5ks to a 390 mile relay! There's truly something for everyone. They even offer medals for purchase. By the way, if you're interested in signing up for any of their races, you can use the discount code AMBASSADOR2020.
Not loving...that in the Uncanceled Project Group on FB, there is a lot of drama. It's not interpersonal drama, it's just that so many people can't just post a run, they have to post some big backstory. Maybe it's because there are a lot of new runners in the group. Can't we just run? Is it just me?

Loving...accolades for 'essential workers'--healthcare workers, first responders, grocery store workers, delivery people who continue to risk their health for us. This week, the Blue Angels did a flyover in Chicago.
Not loving...the conspiracy theories, the protests, and the anger directed at public officials who are trying to open things up safely. Science has gone out the window for a lot of people and selfishness has taken over. I totally understand that people are feeling constrained because I am too. But it's all about keeping people safe.

Loving... all the options streaming right now...We're currently loving The Last Dance (ESPN) and Dead to Me (Netflix). Don't discount The Last Dance. It's more than basketball. It's the story of the making of a champion and the influence he had on his team. Dead to Me is like reading a thriller, with a side of snark. Naturally, I'm loving it.
Not loving... needing to have all the channels to see everything that is worth watching. We have Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu...and that's in addition to Comcast that streaming we added to our lineup. It's all still much cheaper than cable, gives us a lot of options, and having a smart TV definitely helps with navigation.

Loving...spring is here! It's finally warming up. Everything is in bloom. The birds are singing and flowers are blooming. I love the smell of freshly cut grass.
Not loving...that my allergies are also in full bloom. I had a cough and some chest tightness this week so guess who got tested for COVID? I'm negative, by the way.

"caught in a landslide...no escape from reality.."
Loving...my trail runs. Loving. It's a different run every time I go. This week it was beautiful, as the trees are filling out and the sun filters through the leaves. The preserve where I run is such a gift.
Not loving...the trash people leave along the trails. I've spotted cigarette butts, pop cans, and food wrappers. What I'm really not loving is the gloves and masks scattered on the ground. It's become the new dog poop, apparently.

And yeah, the mask goes over your nose.

What are you loving lately? Not loving? Have you ever played Fibbage? Have you been watching The Last Dance? Seen Dead to Me? Any recommendations? Been tested for COVID?

I'm linking up with Fridays with Fairytales and Fitness.

  1. I read an article where the author stated "we have to cure the biology before we cure the economy". My heart goes out to all those who are truly suffering due to unemployment, but still, I absolutely do not understand why states are opening when they clearly shouldn't.

We don't have cable at all. We do have Netflix & Amazon Prime. We've been watching Longmire, which I've really enjoyed, but we're quickly coming to the end so it's time to find a new show. Not sure what that will be.

And bars? Seriously, can you imagine the amount of infections that will come about because of bars?

    1. There was a clip on the news yesterday of the bars in Wisconsin that opened--and one of the people that they interviewed was a 'nurse'. Not nursing's finest moment, right there.

  2. Am loving Dead to Me. On the last episode of Season 1. Just finished all 6 seasons of Schitts Creek.

Loving the virtual races and being outdoors more.

    Not loving all the drama.

Have left some if FB groups such as uncanceled. I agree. Just run. Do they have to post everything!??

    1. I'm so glad it isn't just me with those groups. I've been unfriending people on FB too--so much negativity right now!

We haven't seen the last season of Schitts Creek! We'll watch that next.

  3. We are loving The Last Dance! I'll be so sad when it ends this weekend. What a "golden era" for the Chicago Bulls! It was so fun to go to some of those games back in the day. Spoken like a true geezer. Haha!

    1. I never went to the games but I sure loved watching the championships on TV. What a great memory!

  4. LOL on the mask meme. We loved Dead To Me. We’re watching Little Fires and Mrs. America. I am not loving local government officials/law enforcement who seem to have no concept of public health and contagion, and think we should just let adults make their own choices . . . .

    1. We saw Little Fires--it was pretty good. Mrs America is next on my list.

  5. When all the necessary masking began, my first thought was "what happens to all these excess masks when this thing ends?" Obviously, the end is no where in sight at this moment, but I have to believe there will come a time when we won't need as many masks as there are available. I doubt the reusable ones will be donated...maybe a crafter/seamstress will come up with a "mask blanket" like we have for all of our excess race shirts ;-)

  6. Allergies are in full swing here too! Just when it's nice and sunny to go outside more. I don't think I will be an empty nester again anytime soon. My son is supposed to go back mid August fingers crossed for him. As you know I love the uncanceled project as well. I never joined the FB page. I have enough drama w my other groups haha. Aside from our blog group and MRTT, I am not too interested in FB.

  8. Ah yes the is-it-or-isn't false alarms from allergy flare ups;-) I don't go out very often but when I do I'm always amazed by the people who have their noses poking out of their masks. Dead to Me was awesome.

  9. Marcia and I signed up for The Great Run Across Illinois! I am excited about it. I am going to check out the other races. I agree with you about the FB groups. Haha, on the FB groups. Yeah, just run. I didn't sign up for it because I have enough to handle right now. I want to watch The Last Dance but do not have ESPN. I read that it will be available on Netflix in July.

  10. Your not loving about the FB Uncancelled group reminds me of searching for (and finding) a recipe on the internet and then having to wade through paragraph after paragraph of the story behind the recipe. Honestly I don't really care about your grandma's life story and how she used to make this...just give me the damn recipe. Then you can post the story after that...

That Darwin meme made me LOL.

  11. I am loving all the trail runs too. Bill and I do a (socially distanced) trail run with a friend every Thursday and we sometimes do other trail runs too. They are definitely the highlights of my week. PA is opening up gradually. Where I love will not be officially open for a while, but some counties in North and Central PA are opening. That's where all the trail races are. I am hoping for a small IRL trail race this summer or maybe fall.

  12. Love that Charles Darwin meme! Haha!
I'm not on FB - I didn't know about all the (tear-jerking?) long stories accompanying the runs. I agree, that would annoy me, too.
I'll have a look at Dead to me on Netflix tonight. Thanks for the tip!

  13. As a die-hard MJ fan I have been loving The Last Dance!

I'm glad you mentioned the drama in the Uncancelled FB group - I just joined and I'm already over it! Love the challenge but can do without the FB drama!

That Darwin meme is the best!!

    1. I'm glad it's not me! Why does everything have to be such a big deal?! Can't we just run?

  14. No to drama! No need for that! I am annoyed at all the masks and gloves left abandoned; it's really upsetting. I'm loving running early on Fridays and getting to wave and say thank you to all the bin lorry crews who are out and about - five today!

  15. I am also loving my trail runs, and you are right, each run is different with different things in bloom and more greenery sprouting up! As much as I love taking the puppies with me on a run, I am enjoying even more when I get to go on my own...lol
I have not seen any discarded masks or gloves, but for some reason I feel like seeing them discarded on the ground would be the 2020 version of seeing a hypodermic needle on the ground! Be safe! Thanks for linking up. We really do appreciate it!

  16. Beautiful and interesting post. I am also loving my trail runs but this is the period of allergies and it's not easy to spend long time through the country.
The virtual runs are a new beautiful experience for me. The organizers are doing a very good job.

  17. The face mask meme just made me laugh out loud, lol.

Thanks for the heads up on the All Community Events virtual runs - I'm gonna check them out!
