Runfessions February

This post contains affiliate links.

Aren't you so glad February is such a short month? I certainly am. I'm ready to kick winter in the snowballs and make it go away. I know they call March the cruelest month--winter-weary northerners sometimes have to endure more cold and snow--but at least we're making progress towards spring.

I'm also glad February is coming to a close because that means it's time for another edition of Runfessions. Marcia opens the runfessional on the last Friday of the month and it's a great chance to clear your conscience of any indiscretions that might have occurred on (or off) the road.

Earlier this month, life was just ticking along and I didn't think I was going to have any runfessions! I should have known better...

Oh yes, she did...I runfess that I bought the Bart Yasso socks. I know that said that I wouldn't buy them for myself but no one gifted them to me at Christmas. I don't think my family took my wish for Bart socks seriously. Recently, Runner's World had them on sale for 99 cents. How could I pass that up? The shipping was 4.99, but I still considered it a bargain since, for that price, they sent me 2 pairs of Stance socks. These are really comfortable socks to run in! Who knew? Having Bart's face on my ankles makes my runs even better.

We go way back.
As part of my ongoing treatment for RA, every couple of months, I have to get my blood checked. I had labs drawn 2 weeks ago and they showed my liver enzymes were elevated. One of the medications I'm taking can cause that, but I was told to hold my medication until I could have blood redrawn yesterday. I also assume this meant no alcohol, although she didn't specifically say that.  I runfess that I may not have been 100% abstinent. I did have beer after the Mercedes Half Marathon and I did have a glass of wine with dinner twice this week.

You know how much I have been loving my Mizuno Wave Riders, right? I runfess that there may be a problem with them. I first noticed in a selfie that my ankles seem to be rolling in. I'm starting to have pain in my arches. Maybe it's not the shoes? Maybe...it's my feet?

On Tuesday this week, I published a post about being more mindful.  I gave 8 suggestions for ways you can practice mindfulness every day. I runfess that the morning after publishing that post, I got to work and realized I had forgotten my watch and earrings.

Earlier this week, I got ready for a run. I sat down on the steps to tie my shoes and that's when I heard a ripping noise. I looked down at my legs and I runfess that I split my compression pants. You know the ones I was complaining about a few weeks ago? The ones that wouldn't stay up during a run? Maybe all those squats finally took a toll. They finally couldn't take it anymore. At least it didn't happen while I was running. Or in public. Or at the Olympics.

What do you have to runfess? Ever have a running wardrobe malfunction? Bart, love him? Would you wear his socks? Mindful much? Ok, tell me what I paid for my Bart socks...see if you're paying attention. Please don't judge me on my wine intake....

I'm linking up with Marcia for Runfessions as well as Fairytales and Fitness and Running on Happy for the Friday Five!

  1. .99 cents plus 4.99 shipping. A bargain, I say! Actually, it wouldn't matter whose face was on my socks for that price. Surely a beer (or two) after running a half marathon wouldn't harm the liver. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

  2. I'd totes have jumped on those Bart socks for 99 cents! I saw a woman split her compression pants at the gym years ago. It was quite a scene. Yikes!

    1. My pants splitting wasn't quite so dramatic, altho Cocoa looked at me like "what just happened?" It did make me laugh tho.

  3. I'd say you got a great deal on the socks (the shipping, not so much). I have a pair of fleece-lined leggings I sometimes wear in the winter, mostly for after-work lounging, but on occasion I'll wear them for a run. Well....recently, I went out for a 2-mile run, and those suckers kept sliding down (and I don't mean around the ankles). I can tell my waist/hips are more narrow, but I didn't realize that was enough to make them not stay put. Every couple blocks, I had to pause and do a subtle "hike-up."

    1. I'd say that even with that shipping cost, the socks was a win!

  4. A pair of my compression tights once got ripped in the washer, but I don't think its ever happened when I was wearing them. I think thats a really good deal for running socks! And there is absolutely no judgement on the wine intake:)

  5. ...or at the Olympics - LOL!!! Those are some good runfessions and I'm sure the alcohol had nothing to do with the elevated liver enzymes :-) I mean how are you not supposed to drink a celebratory beer? I'm also with you on the end of February and brining on March!! I happen to love March since it's my birthday month and I celebrate all.month.long. Have a great weekend my friend!

  6. Mindfulness has been a challenge for me - I think I'm good, and then I'll do something like leave my breakfast sitting on the kitchen counter and wonder why I'm starving at 10 am... Stress of having a family member in the hospital adds so many thoughts in my head. Thanks for sharing your runfessions.

  7. Haha! Those Bart socks are awesome!! That's so crazy that the shipping was so much more expensive than the actual socks. Lol

I did not see that event at the Olympics but only because I can't stay up that late. I do, however, have it recorded. Does that mean I watched it the next day? No. And now that I know what happened, would watching it make me as bad as those people who take out their phones and start videoing a tragedy? Hmmm....

    1. I didn't watch it either, but it was all over FB the next day. I think she managed her wardrobe malfunction with grace!

  8. Ooh it's tough when good shoes go bad! Hope the bloodwork comes out better for you this time. I don't think I've had a wardrobe malfunction with running (yet). Love the socks!

  9. Those Bart Yasso socks sound super fun!

I'm sorry to hear that you are having an issue with your Mizuno sneakers. You know how much I love their sneakers! They always make "updates" so maybe this particular version isn't friendly to your feet? I had that issue with a previous version of the wave inspires.

  10. You always have the best runfessions! And yes, that’s a good thing! I love your Yasso socks! And I’m so sorry the Wave Riders might not be right for you. I love mine and I’d hate to have to give them up.

  12. Noooo! That's the worse! I split a pair of my favorite pants some time ago and am still pretty sad about it (they've since stopped making em' :'( ).

I hope your next set of bloodwork comes back okay!!

  14. I met Bart back in 2011 (had to go check my blog for that date, LOL) and I also got to hear him speak - love him, would totally wear his socks!

  15. I had the same elevated liver enzymes several years ago and found that it's possible for strenuous exercise to cause it: "Strenuous exercise or myopathy can cause elevations (especially of AST) without causing any other symptoms" (https://www.aafp.org/afp/2005/0315/p1105.html). Since then I've tried to be mindful (see what I did there?) of not doing a lot of strength training a couple days before blood tests and just sticking to easy runs instead. So, if you had one of your gym/CrossFit days right before your test, it's possible that caused it. It's just that you're too much of a badass!! :-)

  16. Those socks are super cute and at that price, how could you not buy them.

I too wonder if it's the shoe or my stupid feet!

  17. Bahahaha, that totally stinks for that wardrobe malfunction! I can't even imagine what was going through her mind that entire time...YIKES!

No judging from my end on your wine intake! I'm right there with ya girlfriend! :)

  18. I'm loving the Bart Yasso socks! Sorry you're running into problems with the Wave Riders. I'm still trying to find a shoe I love and often wonder if it's the shoes or my feet!

  19. I may still have my glass of wine during dinner when I'm on cold meds. I know the warnings, but it's only a glass. I will abstain when I'm really in the throws of a cold, but once I feel better, it's back to the glass of wine.

I'm ready to kick winter in the snowballs, too. BRING ON SUMMA!!!!

  21. .99 cents was a good deal for your Bart Socks! To bad they get ya on the 4.99 shipping! Our Weimariner dog always had elevated enzyme levels in his liver. I never knew what they came from.

  22. $5.98 is a bargain for running socks no matter whose face is on them ..but I do like Barts smiling face!! One glass of wine twice per week is extremely conservative in my book ...I'm embarrassed to admit. When the hubby deployed last time I pretty much lived on wine alone! The compression pants splitting was obviously a situation of 'weakening of the threads' ...first they won't stay up, then they split. Yep. Weak threads.

    1. Weak threads was exactly what I thought too! In fact, I'll drink to that!

  23. Please don't say that about Winter. I am hoping that it a mild one.

I LOVE your socks ($5.98 is a GREAT deal) and am jealous that I didn't get a pair. I didn't even know they were on sale as I would have gotten a pair!
